Per Adam Schefter, "Manning will not be a colt" and the perfect spot for him
How about them Broncos huh? The Defense is looking very "Orange Crush" Like Von Miller is a total stud and hopefully they allow him to play with the club on his hand. Our offense is starting to click and that could be bad for teams. Ok it will be bad for opposing teams. The truth is we need a backup a QB and looking at the title many of you are smart enough to see who I would like to put on that spot. But look hear me out.
here is the link since ESPN did away with it.
Schefter's comments are basically the same, but he mentioned the Jets and a few other people as possible suitors.
Peyton Manning will probably go down as the best QB of my generation, his 0-16 Colts prove that. We have a QB in Tebow who is simply becoming a monster. I am not saying to bring Peyton in to teach Tebow how to throw, quite the opposite actually, I want Manning to teach Tebow how to read a defense. When it comes to the Run, Tebow is a beast and can read it just fine, when it comes to the pass he puts the ball in the right spot, I am not saying that Tebow is horrible and needs Manning. I think quite the opposite Tebow has one of the best tutelage's in sports, Manning is like the Mr. Myagai of football. Tebow had nothing to learn from Orton, He could have a lot to learn from Manning. It would be like Einstein teaching your physics class.
Tebow is the ultimate team player. and for alot of vets bringing in Manning re-assures players like Champ and Dawk that they have a shot at a ring, and can walk away champions. Dawk is going into the Hall as an Eagle, as he should, Champ a Bronco, and no matter where he goes Manning a Colt, but I think a true open competition through the offseason and training camp, Manning could possibly become a starter, remember Jerry Rice didn't make the cut in Denver. If he does great, If he doesn't cool, and either way Tebow learns to read defenses and reaction football at it's finest.
I worry a team like KC could swipe him up, or even the Raiders, not playing him twice a year would be nice. Obviously it would cost alot to get Manning, but I would happily trade nothing more than a 2nd round pick for him, I understand that 99% of you are going to say it will never happen, well of course it will never happen, but hypothetically if he would come to Denver, on the gamble of maybe being a backup, would you take him? what would you trade? If not why not?

Way too much money for a backup…. our teams is doing fine without Peyton. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I also don’t believe this MSM shite that Fox / Elways are down on Tim Tebow and they can’t wait to ship him out of town.
"If you went to the Fair with this guy and you played that game where you have to throw the ball through the hole..... HE may never get it through the hole, but he's still gonna be walking away with all the stuffed animals" Prime on Tebow!!!

Agreed on the money part of it and think TT is making real good strides recently
But I have to admit that TT would benefit from a 1 or 2 years learning from him.
sure man, what young QB wouldn't?

AW palehorse..this would be great
Peytons current contract would not need to carry over. I think you all have to agree that Tim needs more time to learn how to play NFL QB.So let him learn behind the best ‘defense reader’ of our time PLUS we would still keep winning.
Kreese and Lawrence will decide if Tim Tebow can develop into our future.

I don't see anything regarding Schefter
This is false advertising. Can you edit in a link where the statement is? Otherwise he shouldn’t be in the title.
I agree with Pale, Manning has the highest salary in the league and is a clear-cut starter. If he is going to take a pay cut and play second fiddle to a 2nd year player, he might as well go into coaching. And though he may end up as a coach somewhere, I don’t think it ia in his nature because he is too competitive.

probably more for the team than the player. If there is no escape clause for the player, than Manning is stuck with Luck lol

If Peyton will be a starting QB next year, no matter what team he plays for (NE, GB, and NO are the expections)
As long as his neck holds up Manning is still a pro bowl caliber QB and he knows it too. No way will he except a backup role and I seriously doubt Tebow would be able to beat him out for the starting job. Plus the Broncos will have to give up at least a 1st round pick to get him seeing as their will be teams looking for starting QB’s that will be willing to give up a 1st for him. Not to mention that his contract basically guarantee’s he starts.
And now for something completely different
Your idea is not bad, just expensive
I think if the Broncos wanna find a hall of fame QB to mentor Tebow it would be a lot wiser to go after Favre. Favre has more in common with Tebow, would come cheaper, and the expectations for him to start would be smaller. Favre will stay retired but if the Broncos wanna find a mentor, Favre is a better option if they can coax him.
That or maybe the current HOF QB we have under the payroll could find some time in his very busy schedule to work with him.
And now for something completely different
by AlbertaBronc on Dec 8, 2011 11:20 AM MST up reply actions
Sorry...
Our cheerleaders are too cute and we do NOT need any weenie picks floating about. From everything heard and read, Favre is too self absorbed to be much of a mentor to anyone, let alone someone with Tim’s character. His skills were great, but somewhere the ego messed up his mind and now he is an old ass with not much to offer.
I don't think Manning goes for a first which is for sure a disservice to him
but he is on the wrong side of 30, and they are already tapping Luck I would suspect. that only leaves the cap space, make his deal incentive laden like nobody’s business and boom it’s possible. still not feasible, but totally possible.
I would love to see Elway work with Tebow, but honestly I don’t think he will, hence bringing in Manning

I'm not so sure the Colts unload him just yet
And when they do my money is on an NFC team, but wherever he goes I’m sure it will be to start and not to mentor. He’s too fierce of a competitor.

why not?
because the NFL loves Peyton soo much that he can never come to Denver? just like Melo would never be traded, Farve would go quietly into the sunset, Pujols would stay in St. Louis because he would never leave his team.
People like Montana have been traded, Jordan came back twice, we brought in Jerry Rice once. Jerry FREAKING Rice, the wide receiver, and this is the situation that is TOTALLY unconscionable?
it’s the best pocket passer to ever play the game coming in and competiting for a shot, teaching tebow for a year or two, building the team making some playoff runs and then turning it back over to jesus.
I love tebow, I think this would make him the most dangerous weapon in the NFL.

No dude
Imo it doesn’t make any sense because we are rebuilding (and btw, pretty well) and it would be very contraditory to land such a veteran QB like Manning.
To coach, it’s a big waste of money.
To play (more likely) it’s a big waste of time since he has no more than 3 or 4 five years left imo.
We are rejuvenating our entire roster, why it should be different at the QB position? We need to look at the solution for the next 12 or 13 years, not 3 or 4.

it's not a 3 year fix
it’s a two year learning curve for a QB that is already dangerous, to learn to be even more dangerous. for the next 12 or 13 years

Besides the huge money problems with this -
if there isn’t incredible QB controversy here now, there would be even more with Manning on the team. If there is ANY let down of Tebow (or whomever the next Broncos QB is), the constant calls for the “back-up” Manning to take the reins would lead to a disaster of biblical proportions. The Broncos have plenty of national coverage of their QB situation as it is. We don’t need any more.
"When I began playing the game, baseball was about as gentlemanly as a kick in the crotch." - Ty Cobb
I don't get it
- Bringing in Manning for a 2nd round pick (which is probably too low anyway) and $20M to be a 2nd string guy, and a coach, is just a terrible idea. We have coaches to coach for a whole lot less money. And they don’t cost draft picks to attain. And we have John Elway to be his fair god father.
- If Manning can play, he’ll be a starter – an elite starter. As you said, the Colts’ 0-16 proves that. It’s his neck, not a knee or an ankle. I’m no Dr, but I don’t see much of an in-between here. Either he can play as an elite starter, or he can’t play at all.
- Bringing in Manning as a starter is the only way it makes sense to pay what he would cost. A team like the Jets might consider that, given that they have a legitimate SB contending team outside of the QB position. They’re a win-now team. Maybe the Redskins, because they like to throw money around. But the Broncos? We don’t spend like that. And why would we further delay Tebow’s development? A QB develops better on the field, not on the bench.
- Bringing in Manning essentially means giving up on Tebow. Period. Tebow’s contract is likely in about it’s 2nd to last year by the time Manning is close to being done. That’s a giant waste of Tebow’s talents before ever knowing if Tebow can take us to the promised land. Again, signing Manning means he’s a starter. And it means Tebow will sit on the bench for years. It’s premature to make a decision like that. At best.
DROY is almost an insult to the great Von Miller at this point. Methinks he deserves a back-door pass to the next Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for a chance to sack an Angel - Miranda Kerr, maybe.
I don think it means giving up on Tebow at all
I think it is quite the opposite, yeah I agree it’s expensive, and we are trying to build a team, but you take the best player at his position on your team, and allow him to teach a guy how to play the game? this would be like Jordan Mentoring Kobe or LeBron. both cam out of school and knew how to ball, but not really how to play.
I don’t think it means Manning’s a starter, the dude is elite, but so what Jerry Rice when we brought him in…
by graff_stuff690 on Dec 9, 2011 10:35 AM MST up reply actions
I don't think it's happening but....
If Manning is healthy and our starter wouldn’t that immediately make us next years favorites for the Super Bowl from the AFC. with our defense, and continued additions on defense we would be aweseome.
And we keep Tebow, for goal line sub packages, short yardage and continue to develop while Manning ends his career. Tebow is a team player and will have to wait. He’s signed for another 3 years I think.

I wouldn't mind Manning as a coach
but as a player, way too much money. He is one hit from being done with his neck, yes it’s healing, but man – thats like tying your pumper using zip ties to your car and expecting it to hold for the next several years.

Hey I get there is no Santa Claus
I learned that when Plummer flipped me off.
I don’t think Manning would consider being a backup, but neither did Jerry Rice, who we brought in for OPEN competition and he rolled out of town when he was not a number 1 receiver, however you can’t tell me, that Manning wouldn’t tebow something about reading pass defenses. look its a fully hypothetical situation of course,
by graff_stuff690 on Dec 9, 2011 10:41 AM MST up reply actions
I agree
Manning would be a great teacher. i just don’t want there to be a growing myth that Tebow isn’t smart or can’t read defenses because he is absolutely capable of doing so.

yeah he can read defenses
and is a monster at reading run D, manning would teach him to read the pass

I would get him
yes Tebow’s been great, but Manning is a once in a lifetime QB and immediatley would elevate our team to “elite” status. I wouldn’t want to mortgage our entire future for him but for maybe a 2nd rounder, I’d do it

On second thought, no, that would risk another neck injury. But the thought of Peyton’s coming in as a has-been, second-string tutor is NUTS! Bring him in and win the Super Bowl. That is what would happen, IMO.
I love my wife.
i'm saying you allow them to compete
if Manning’s neck ain’t all that he is riding pine, if he wins and Tebow holds a clipboard, big deal, tebow will still be learning all off-season and training camp from one of the best in the league ever

Manning isn't a backup. At least not yet.
And the dude is rich enough you probably couldn’t pay him enough to convince him to accept a backup/mentor role.

"...bringing in Manning ...." - graff_stuff690
If Peyton Manning leaves the Colts, it would likely be the result of a trade. The bidding for Manning, even with the injury and salary liabilities, would likely quickly exceed what the Broncos would sacrifice.
In any case, it would seem highly unlikely that Payton Manning would agree to remain in the NFL, let alone relocate, just to be a backup quarterback. Once you’ve been a King at something, it’s not easy to contemplate being anything less. Manning just doesn’t seem the type to throw in the towel and agree to mentor a young talent while polishing the pine.
The Broncos organization would not be well served by having a backup who, through no fault of his own, would cause a quarterback controversy every week he warmed a bench. Even if Manning were to take the starting QB job, it’s hard to imagine that a nearly immobile passer with a growing proclivity for debilitating injuries would be good for our team.
My personal opinion is that Peyton Manning will finally get a clue that the Colts really don’t want him anymore and simply retire on his laurels. The Colts will likely offer him some sweet heart deal like the Packers tried giving to Brett Favre a few years ago.
In any case, it seems safe to say that Peyton Manning won’t be wearing a Broncos uniform in this version of reality. Of course, stranger things have been known to happen…:)
We'll get along better if you just admit I'm right
Jordan did it with the wizards...
and really I accept that it probably won’t ever happen, but if it did, I think that would be a sweet win/win for everyone. I’m really not crazy, but I think it’s decent to talk about these things. I mean the dude is the best QB to ever play the game, and he could teach tebow the one thing tebow can’t really do yet, read pass defenses on the fly…

I know I'm late...and decided to not read any comments...want this from the heart.
Bad Idea! Really bad idea!
I personally think Tebow has the same talent for reading defenses. In fact Tebow may be superior to Manning but lacking the experience. Check out Mannings first season….he went through a learning curve with almost no wins.
I love Manning and all his class…and I would like to see him out of Indy….but here is where he should go.
We all know that Shanny is a beloved coach. Shanny needs to draft a QB this year. Nothing would be finer than for a young QB to have Shanny as a coach and Manning as a mentor.
I bet Manning ends up in Washington…and gets a second ring there.

Guardian of the Gate to La La Land!
Gonsoulin, Taylor, Wright, Gradishar, Atwater, and Davis.....
Why are they not in the Hall...I just don't understand.
besides the fact I would hate to see shanny get a ring before the broncos
I think honestly if he will go anywhere probably new york, where he will be the subject of the news and screw his brother and the giants over as a jet…
