I keep seeing this ridiculous mocks and I can't take it anymore. Trade Kyle Orton for a 2nd rounder- are you kidding? Sign these 5 FA's so you know what to draft. Well that will not be the case this year making it a very very unique draft. Remember the CBA is expiring?
Please remember the NFL will present the new CBA as required and then there will be declaration called and impasse. What does that mean for the draft:
1. No player trades (of any kind - for picks for players etc...) requires CBA.
2. No Free Agent signing requires CBA.
So no team will know what holes will be filled with FA's, and you can't accumulate picks by trading players. You can absolutely trade draft picks much like Denver did last season, by far one of the most active teams. But please understand the chances of a CBA agreement by the draft date are slim to none and slim left the building.
In fact after the draft the rookie salary cap won't be in place, so are agents going to push to sign guys quick? Will those contract be void after the CBA? Nobody knows. Until players paychecks are impacted I believe the player will stay strong. After a few missing paychecks to support your 9 kids from 7 ladies then players are going to break. Few players prepared like they should of and the NFL owners are well prepared. Goodell will steamroll Smith and get 90% of his agenda.
But one thing we do know - the draft dynamics are HIGHLY likely to change, so please have your Mock drafts reflect that.
