With the #1 Pick In the 2011 MHR Community Mock Draft, the Carolina Panthers Select DE Da'Quan Bowers, Clemson
From General Manager Tony Astorino: Da’Quan Bowers is the premier pass rusher in this year’s Draft. Nearly the entire Defense needs help and where better to start then by adding a great talent in Bowers. He will help the Panthers a great deal primarily in the passing game on the defensive side of the ball but has the size and skill to be an, effective at worst, run-stopper as well. After losing Julius Peppers to free agency a couple of years ago, I feel like Bowers can step right in and help replace some of that lost production. His superb pass rushing ability will help the team greatly on 3rd downs to get the defense off the field and the offense back on. Adding a dominant player like this to the defensive line will help get the defense off the field earlier, and giving the offense better field position.
Da’Quan’s extraordinary defensive stats from last year earned him the honors of being the, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, while playing at Clemson. Even more impressive than his 63 tackles is the havoc he wreaked in ACC backfields all year long. He posted fantastic numbers recording 24 tackles for a loss, and 15.5 sacks. Meaning over 1/3 of the 63 tackles he made last year, occurred behind the line of scrimmage, proving his dominance. A successful defense starts with a successful defensive line, and a great Defensive End like Bowers will help get the Carolina Panthers reach their defensive goals.

From the Commish
Sayre: I think the Panthers could go a number of different directions. This is going to be a long process for them leading all the way up to the draft, I think, but Bowers is a solid selection. Anyone who can lead the nation in sacks with a torn meniscus is fine by me, and he fits a great need for them. Is he a one year wonder? I'm not so sure. I think Bowers showed improvements over all three years at Clemson, and he really turned it up in his junior campaign. A good young prospect that Carolina can build their defense around.
Look for the Broncos pick later today....

Go Dareus for #2!
Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.
Kind of surprised with a DE pick
But I suppose either DT or DE could have gone here. I like this a lot more then taking a QB, because while Moore and Clausen are both young, as long as you get them some help, they may be able to develop further. Bowers should help shore up the line and get some pressure.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Panthers need everything
As long as the pick isn’t a bust it is a good pick. Carolina needs EVERYTHING..

#2 is scheduled to go up tonight at 6pm MST
The broncos war-room deliberated hard on this one, I can tell. And I don’t think we are going to have a site full of happy campers…

I am getting my pitchfork ready if it isnt Fairley
I wouldn’t be too mad if it was PP, and I don’t like Dareus here, but I wouldn’t be pissed either. Anyone other then those 3 and my pitchfork will be ready!

we could run one of the most innovative offenses ever
with Tebow and Newton. 2 QB’s in the backfield at the same time

I actually wouldn't be that pissed if we selected Cam Newton
I don’t know why… I’m as die hard Broncos fan as there is and I wouldn’t be that pissed. It would be a media hell hole but I wouldn’t mind it at all

lmao
I wonder what offensive player (QB, RB or C/G/T/TE) they chose?!?
Also, who in the war room may we sacrifice to the Football Gods for the pick?

That got me thinkin.
Wouldn’t it be weird to be the only LS invited to the combine? It’s a lonely life for that guy
If they draft Bowers
It probably means they won’t sign Charles Johnson, and I hope we go after him if this is the case.

Great selection for Panthers...
Was hoping Broncos could sign Bowers but since Carolina is staying in the 4-3 it makes sense. Curious to see who Broncos selected by consensus???

It's Miller time!!!!!!
There are several choices here I would be more than okay with but the preference would be to trade # 2 and still pick up Miller.

fromtier
go PP at number 2 or trade down to Cinny looking to trade above Buffalo for a QB
It's Fairley obvious who the Broncos should pick
Cam Newton! No wait ,pardon the pun but we need to take Nick Fairley if he is there at number 2. He destroyed offensive lines from the defensive tackle position in helping lead Auurn to their first national title. I am tired of the Broncos picking lesser guys like Eddie Royal and DeMaryius Thomas just because they offer more character when the obvious picks were DeSean Jackson and Dez Bryant

ehh
fairley is small and has that Albert Haynesworth attitude. work hard Get paid, then go eat some lunch until its a contract year
id rather
Peterson (1st choice)
Dareus (2nd choice)
Miller (3rd choice)
although ideally id prefer a move down a few slots, but its impossible to trade the number 2 under the current cba so expensive
yes character doesn't catch touchdowns
i agree, but neither does throwing the ball 40 yards off your ass

they can right?
i think i remember something about just not selecting in your alloted time, then the broncos get #1. and whenever carolina wants back in the get back in.
If a club passes during the draft, it gives up its pick at that point and can re-enter at any point to make its selection,
quote from an article about the detroit stafford draft
“If a club passes during the draft, it gives up its pick at that point and can re-enter at any point to make its selection,’’ said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.
I then wondered if Detroit skipped down to No. 5, whether that pick would be considered the real No. 1 pick (because he was taken by Detroit) or the No. 5 choice.
“To use your example,‘’ Aiello wrote in an e-mail, "if a player is selected 5th, he is the 5th pick. There is no other way to view it.’’
Solid Pick!
Hard to argue with the pick, he looks like a great athlete and will help their defense.
In Tebow I trust
ohhhhh
I know who we pickkk :)

Von Miller
Or Dareus. Or trade back with the Arizona so they can select Gabbert before Buffalo does.
Draft Peterson. Elway fears him.

Would it have mattered?
The guy who originally held the pick was going to take Fairley and we were fine with that, then he said he had the Broncos pick and that the new guy took Bowers, who we never heard from, to which everyone said was a bad pick. :(
