My last Mock Draft before the combine!!!
After months and months of thought and watching The Senior Bowl , I have come up with my final Mock draft before the combine. I think that everyone here thinks that Denver must go Defense , Defense , Defense. Especially after McDaniels spent Denver's 1st 5 Picks of the 2010 Draft on Offense - Demaryius Thomas , Tim Tebow , Zane Beadles , JD Walton and Eric Decker.
Team needs going into the 2011 Draft
Front 7 - Denver has only 1 Elite Player in Dumervil and Denver must address this.
Safety - Brian Dawkins might retire , Renaldo Hill just stinks and Darcel McBath can't stay healthy.
Right Tackle - Elway says that they will not resign Ryan Harris. Denver must either draft a Right Tackle or slide Zane Beadles there and draft a Guard.
Trades
1. Jabbar Gaffney is traded to St Louis for their 5th Round Pick.
2. Brady Quinn is traded to KC for their 5th Round Pick.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Free Agents
1. Champ Bailey - Elway said today that they were going to do their best to keep Champ. He resigns for 4 years.
2. Barry Cofield - DT - 6'4" 305lbs - 53 Tackles and 4 Sacks - Denver signs this very good young DT to a 4 year deal.
3. DeAngelo Williams - RB - 5'11" 210lbs - Williams will team with Moreno to give Fox his 1-2 RB punch.
4. Roman Harper - S - 6'1" 200LBS - 28 Years old - Harper will like to reunited with Dennis Allen and would give Denver a Veteran Safety.
5. David Thomas - TE -6'3" 245lbs -Denver signs this good TE in Free Agency
_________________________________________________________________________________________
2011 NFL Draft
1st Round Pick ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DaQuan Bowers - 6'4" 280lbs - DE - Clemson - Denver drafts Bowers to play opposite Dumervil and gives Denver 2 very good 4-3 DE's.
2nd Round Pick ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephen Paea - 6'1" 305lbs - DT - Oregon St - Denver drafts this very strong DT who had 45 tackles and 6 Sacks in 2010.
2nd Round Pick(#46)*******TRADE********* Denver trades the #46 Pick to Philly for their 2nd , 4th and 5th Round Picks.
2nd Round Pick(#54)----------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny Watkins - G/T Baylor - 6'4" 306lbs - Watkins is NFL ready and can play Guard or Right Tackle.
3rd Round Pick ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- KJ Wright - OLB - Miss St - 6'3" 245lbs - Wright is a very good LB and Denver needs to bring some youth and talent to the LB core.
4th Round Pick(via Philly)---------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Sands - S - West Virginia - 6'4" 220lbs - Denver drafts this Tall Safety to compete with McBath.
5th Round Pick(via St Louis)------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Sherman - CB - Stanford - 6'2" 200lbs - Denver drafts this tall CB.
5th Round Pick(via KC)--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Henry Hynoski - FB - Pitt - 6'2" 260lbs - Denver finally gets a true FB.
5th Round Pick(via Philly)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Damien Berry - RB - Miami - 5'11" 210lbs - Berry has been explosive in the Texas allstar.
6th Round Pick-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lee Smith - TE - Marshall - 6'6" 269lbs - Very big Blocking TE.
6th Round Pick -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Hagg - S - Nebraska - 6'1" 206lbs - Very good late round Safety.

Final thoughts
1. Denver is going to have to spend a draft pick in the 2nd or 3rd rounds for a Offensive Lineman. Danny Watkins can step in right from day 1 at Guard and Denver could slide Zane Beadles to Right Tackle.
2. By drafting both DaQuan Bowers and Stephen Paea Denver would finally address it's Dline in the draft and have 2 young Studs for years to come.
3. I think that Denver should look to trade their 2nd(2nd Round Pick #46) - This pick is very attractive and should bring back a possible 3rd , 4th or 5th Round Pick or picks back.
4. I think that John Fox and John Elway can easily transform our 4-12 team to a 9-7 or 10-6 team with some good Free Agents (Cofield , Harper , Williams , Thomas and of course Champ) and a good draft.
Any thoughts

First, I really doubt you won't mock again. hehehehehe
But regarding the Mock and the FA…
Bowers & Paea in the draft + Coffield on FA would improve our front 7 drastically.
Overall I like the picks, principally Sands. I think he’ll do great in the NFL.
I think Bowers and Paea is very realistic.
This will be my last mock until the combine in 3 weeks. After that or Free agency I will probaly look again but I think this mock addresses alot of Denver’s needs.
I love this one BFSD
you hit me in the heart with Paea and Sands bro. No more mocks man? I don’t believe it – you little fibber.
"When Tim Tebow does pushups, he's not pushing himself up, he's pushing the world down."
"Gear down there big shifter This is the "No Bull" review man…" a total Lebowski-esque one liner from Sadaraine, whether he realizes it or not - comedic gold.
I agree...
With Paea weighing in under 300lbs and hurting his knee, thus missing the combine, there is a good chance he is available in the early 2nd round. If he is, I hope we jump. He shoots gaps and has the strength to be a dominant 3 tech. I like Bowers if we dont trade back. If Carolina takes Fairley and there is a rookie wage scale a team like the Browns might be willing to swap picks for a chance at AJ Green. At this time, there are a lot of good defensive prospects in the top 10 and trading back to stockpile more picks would be my preference.
What do you think of Danny Watkins?
Denver is going to have a hole at either RT or G. I think Beadles can play as well as Ryan Harris and Watkins is NFL ready at Guard.
I think alot of Mock drafts don’t address our huge need for 1 starting Olineman.
I agree
even if we don’t need a starter at RT (which we probably will), we have absolutely no depth on the OL. This will have to be fixed, and fixed soon.

Safety is a huge mystery.
I think that Denver should sign Roman Harper or Donte Whitner and then what happens to
Brian Dawkins – does he play 1 more year or retire.
Renaldo Hill – my least favorite player on defense. Not a good player in my mind.
Darcel McBath – this could be his year – can he stay healthy – he has alot of talent.
agreed
I don’t like Whitless – especially considering he wants paid BIG money for just being a productive tackler. The dude has no playmaking ability at all.

Whitner is very good against the run but you are right he isn't playmaker.
He had 140 tackles this year.
Renaldo Hill 63 tackles and 2 Ints
He is alot better than Hill

lol you forget to mention that we play an entirely different defense than the bills
Hill is lined up 30 yards deep BEFORE the snap. We play our safeties deeper than any other team in the league n00b.
Dude,
There is no way you can avoid mocking till the Combine!
I love the first two picks. I think Watkins would be a good guard but I am not sold on him being a RT. Maybe I’m wrong. The third round pick does not blow my skirt up. I wonder if Sands will be available in the 4th. Probably not. The other picks are great. Overall, I like it but don’t love it. I hate having to pick OL again but we might have to.
We are going to have to do something on the Oline.
Either draft a Right Tackle or draft a Guard and slide Zane Beadles to RT.
KJ Wright - Wes Bunting

Impression: Is a big, long, athletic kid who knows how to use his length/athleticism to fend off blocks. Improved his overall instincts and violence/snap as a tackler in 2010 and looks like a potential starting caliber 4-3 strong side guy in the NFL.
.
Did you SEE Beadles play RT?
He was atrocious, his position is LG.
Mock is fine. I like most of the picks.
I don't think Beadles played that bad considering he was a Rookie.
Most players have a big improvement from year 1 in the NFL to year 2
agree, Beadles is better suited as a guard but he has the versatility to play Tackle and had some great playes early in the year.
2/3 of the earth is covered by water the other 1/3 is covered by Champ Bailey!
THIS IS BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!
He has short arms
He played way better as a guard and that was where almost all scouts had him pegged. It’s commonly known that McDaniels overdrafted him.
Would be excited with this Mock draf
I’m coming around on Bowers the more i look at some of his play, still not toally sold. I’m hoping the CBA gets done and we trade back, but not out of the top 10 and give us some more flexibility to move back up in to the bottom end of the 1st and pick up either a JJ Watt or Wilkerson. Still then get Paea with our 1st pick in the second round.
So, we could trade back and either end up with 1st round – Miller/Dareus, 1st round – Watt/Wilkerson, and 2nd round pick #36 – Stephen Paea. That would be my ultimate haul with this draft.
It is almost impossible to trade out of the #2 pick unless there is a ELITE QB
That pick is worth 2600 points. Just to trade up from 7th to 2nd would cost a team their 1st , 2nd and 3rd round picks.
It very unlikely
IMO, the draft scale is thrown out the window if there is a new CBA
I could really care less about the value chart, especially if a CBA gets done and there is a rookie pay scale. If you can trade out and get close to that value, why would you not entertain that idea and stay in the top 10??? IMO, after the combine, there is going to be a few players that a team is going to salivate over and would make that trade(especially if there is a rookie pay scale) to land that one player he thinks he needs in order to put them over the hump.

If there is a Rookie pay scale the top 10 picks will be worth MORE
Not less diehard.
I highly doubt that Denver will trade out of that pick sorry to burst your bubble.
Yep
With a Rookie wage scale the Draft value goes up, cause teams are not afraid to mive up to top 5 as they wont have to pay huge $$ to a rokie. On the flip side Denver needs to stay and take a stud as we wont have to pay alot of $ for a rookie.

Yes i see your point
But if you could grab a marcel dareus or Vonn Miller in the top 10, then around 23-27 be able to draft a JJ watt or Muhammed Wilkerson, and then our 1st second round take Stephen Paea. If the Broncos were able to pull this off, do you think it hurts us or makes us better???
by diehardbronco2 on Feb 4, 2011 4:19 PM MST up reply actions
Exactly it will be worth more
The teams will not have to put up the up front cost which is why most team did not like drafting that high. Now that the cost is set for the higher picks, they will be worth more to teams, say like the cowboys. Who have very good rosters and in their eyes may only need one player to put them over the top and they would be more inclined to trade up to that spot because there is no huge money guarantee for that player. If i was a team with only a couple pieces in my eyes away and decent depth, why wouldn’t i trade the farm to get that one player and know i do not have to guarantee that said player millions.

You can't win in this league with 53 choirboys, and the last time I checked, they weren't holding parades for 4-12 teams full of Boy Scouts.
you guys
are so mean. How can you lay your heads down at night with a clear conscience? ;-)

Love it BFSD! WOuld be very excited with Bowers and Paea.
Finally you add Sands, Only problem is I think he goes in the second but worst the 3rd, so Put him in the 3rd pick and a LB in the 4th and Mail it to Dove Valley!! Also if he is there give me Fairley over Bowers and still add Paea and I am passing out.

Oh yeah calling BS on no mocks till combine
What else will we read, dont do that to us BFSD.

I would love this draft, very similar to my thinking
A lot of defense, trading 2nd rnd pick, your trades and fa signings we are in playlets in tebow starts as well
Orton could double as our punter, he would always get the ball to stop in the red zone
Like water off a duck's back
nice!
You can be dumb... that's ok! There are many dumb people.
You can be an %&*hole... that's ok! There are many of these as well.
Unfortunately you cannot be both...
Ok... prove me wrong.
I like colquitt
Thought he did a fine job. especially since he was essentially a rookie. He cant help it if the rest of the unit can not tackle.
Bowers?
Dont see us drafting D End with our first pick. Doom and Ayers fit the bill just fine. Robert was showing great promise before breaking his foot .( as a 34 linebacker no less ). Foxy well put him back at his natural D End position and hell be fine. Hopefully one of the two monster tackles are the pick. And while were hoping lets go Phil Taylor with our second pick. (hoping hell be their). Broncos well be starting 2 rookie D Lineman just like we did last year with our O Line. Future would be bright.
Johny
Robert Ayers has 1.5 Sacks in 2 Years. He hasn’t shown anything to say that he can generate more.
DaQuan Bowers had 16 Sacks his Junior year and would have probably had more if he went back to school for his Senior Year.
I like Phil Taylor alot but after his very good Senior Bowl most experts think he will go 1st Round to either the Jets or Pittsburgh. If he made it to our 2nd Round Pick then Heck Yes!!!!
sack totals
Dont say everything about Ayers game. I spent alot of time watching Ayers specifically last year and I can tell you this. He put alot of pressure on Qb’s when needed, may not have registered the sack but applied plenty of pressure. Secondly, anything ran in his direction he was in on the tackle or turned it inside which is exactly what he was supposed to do. Just looking at sack totals doesnt even come close to explaining what Ayers does on the field. And like I stated before, did it all at a position he’d never played before.
Denver needs a upgrade and so far Ayers is a bust.
He has been a disappointment so far. Could he turn it around sure.
If you look at Pittsburgh and Green Bay – Johnny – they lead the NFL in SACKS – not pressure or almost got theres.
Sacks = Turnover = more 3 and outs.
Not giving up...just putting him in his natural postition...
Ayers is a 2 down player…great against the run and not much of a threat in the passing game. Drafting Bowers will hopefully challenge Ayers and in running situations, Ayers and Bowers can be the edge defenders since Doom at 247lbs is a liability in the run game.
not a bad mock
Think it’ll be a 3 year project. You’re about to see Xanders make a strong commitment to building through the draft and keeping his guys long term. Does this mock represent progress? sure, but not the promised land.
Ayers isn't a bust. This last season was really his real rookie year to me.
He showed he can stop the run, which I don’t think Dumervil can. Robert Ayers is just an average pass rusher, but his an important piece to the defense because of his ability to stop the run. Also, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have Bowers come in, just in case Dumervil isn’t at full strength.
I do like this mock draft, but if the broncos take an o-linemen, it should be with the first second round pick. Hopefully the OT from USC falls to the broncos there. He looks underrated and very athletic.
I like the free agent pickups. Cofield should be the number one target. His got alot of upside—could easily be the best d-linemen in the AFC west. Would also take the pressure off the rookies.
