Mocking with the CBA, possible ways around no trades

As time passes until the deadline it is looking more likely that the CBA will not be signed at least not in time to perform trades for draft picks. I am not sure of the legal implications of this but it is possible that teams could come to a agreement in principle to carry out a trade, using other assets as collateral. If ElwayFoxXanders (EFX) are going to rebuild our defense I hope it would look something like this:

Draft (CBA not yet signed)

1. Carolina Panthers select Nick Fairley (DT)

*Trade Alert*

Arizona is looking to secure Blaine Gabbert before Buffalo can even think about taking him, Denver takes the lowball offer of Arizona’s 1st (5) and 3rd (69) for their 1st (2) knowing that at least one of Peterson, Dareus or Bowers will be there at pick #5.

2. Arizona Cardinals select Blaine Gabbert (QB)

3. Buffalo Bills select Da’Quan Bowers (DE)

4. Cincinnati Bengals select A.J. Green (WR)

*Trade Alert*

Dallas would love to add Patrick Peterson and offer a great deal to get the Broncos to bite, Denver gets Dallas’ 1st (9), 2nd (40) and 4th (109) and Dallas gets Arizona’s 1st (5).

5. Dallas Cowboys select Patrick Peterson (CB)

6. Cleveland Browns select Robert Quinn (DE)

7. San Fransisco 49ers select Cam Newton (QB)

8. Tennessee Titans select Von Miller (LB)

9. Denver Broncos select Marcell Dareus (DT) – With other teams having more pressing needs Dareus falls to this pick allowing us to get one of our top targets. This guy is a beast on the line who is also adept at putting pressure on the QB up the middle.

10. Washington selects Julio Jones (WR)

……………………………………………………………….

36. Denver selects Stephen Paea (DT) – Paired up with Dareus our line could be really scary either right away or in the near future. This guy doesn’t get pushed around being stout against the run and with the knee injury might be available at this pick.

40. Denver selects Jimmy Smith (CB) – A great corner who is only slightly underrated as his scouting report gives him a lot of credit. Many draft grades have him higher than this pick possibly even a first rounder, though many of the mocks that are posted as of yet don’t have him going in the 1st.

*Trade Alert*

Denver trades 2012 2nd rounder for Minnesota’s 2nd (43), A deal for Kyle Orton is agreed on in principal when CBA is signed Minnesota will give 2012 pick back for him.

43. Denver selects Ben Ijalana (OT) – We don’t have much depth on the O-line and if Ryan Harris leaves we will need to find someone to replace him. There isnt much out there for OT so the best place to look is probably the draft, Ijalana could start or at least provide some depth since some scouts see him more as a OG.

47. Denver selects Kyle Rudolph (TE) – It was really apparent that the Broncos were lacking at the TE position. Rudolph could become a really good TE and it is worth a look to see what he might be able to do for the Broncos.

67. Denver selects Tyler Sash (S) – A safety that you can really get creative with in blitz packages and scouting the middle against the run. Somewhat weak in coverage and doesn’t have the speed to cover large areas, though we need a guy who is a punishing tackler like Sash.

69. Denver selects Stephen Wisniewski (OG/C) – Might not have the ideal strength and have tons of althleticism but does many things really well. Could fit pretty well in a zone blocking system that might be in the future again for the Broncos.

109. Denver selects Nate Irving (ILB) – While not the freak athlete he provides big hits while being able to take on the run or drop back into coverage. He might be the kind of guy that you want manning the middle of the defense.

188. Denver selects Chris Conte (CB) – Could compete for a role on special teams or backup for the secondary.

194. Denver selects Anthony Sherman (FB) – He isnt going to be a dominant force running the ball but he will open up some holes with a big body and some great blocking.

Free Agency:

After the CBA is negotiated in the summer the trade with Minnesota can be completed and FA’s signed for the team.

Abram Elam(FS) – A solid safety in case things don’t work out with McBath or he happens to get hurt .

Roman Harper (SS) – His coach is now with our team and our need for a good safety would make the Broncos one of his likely destinations.

Chad Greenway (OLB) – This is a move that I would be really excited about though it is still not determined who Minnesota will try to hold on to and who they will let leave. Would be great to have a guy like him opposite DJ Williams patrolling the outside.

Stephen Tulloch (MLB) – It doesn’t look like he will be back in Tennessee and he would be a great leader up the middle with plenty of experience.

DeAngelo Williams (RB) – It seems almost inevitable that he will come in and help Knowshown get the running game going.
