Home Field Advantage and the Fans who Can Create it

I went with my Cousin who happens to be a Dallas Stars fan to Staples Center for the Dallas Stars-LA Kings game the other night. We had great seats, 6 rows up behind the goal. I of course am wearing my #52 Adam Foote Avs jersey. Early on in the first period there is a huge scoring chance in which a Stars player shoots high over the net and I stand up in excitement...and behind me there is an old Kings fan who resembles Bob Barker that immediately starts telling me to sit down because my seat is good enough and he cannot see anything. While it may be proper etiquette to remain seated as if you are watching a ballet or something, I still want to stand and get into the game.

This got me thinking about the fans of teams that regularly attend pro games and the sheer lack of excitement they possess while there. I also began thinking of Soccer games in which the fans are constantly standing throughout the entire stadium creating a pretty awesome sports atmosphere. Which got me thinking how awesome Mile High would be if every fan was on its feet for the entirety of the game when Jay-C the Chicago Bears come to town this year. I can imagine as an opposing player to walk onto the field at Mile High while the entire place is booing your ass off for the entire pregame festivities and announcements...then as the game begins the entire stadium is still standing, slapping seats in front of them, stomping their feet on the ground, causing pure chaos every time the Defense is on the field through the entire duration of the game...and there isn't one Bob Barker look-a-like in the place who is complaining about having to stand up and really get into the game.

I want to see Mile High become the place opposing teams just cannot stand to come to...because they can't hear themselves think, everyone is on their feet in the entire place as if they may rush the field at any moment, there's some Orange Crush Can looking noisemakers that you smash together to make even more noise all over the place, there's a Bronze Barrel Man Statue in the South Stands, they confiscated the creepy Elf-Leprechaun guy's season tickets in order to make room for the Bronze Barrel Man(Elf-Leprechaun Guy is just weird).

Hopefully with the new regime in place, more of a focus on bringing the Mile High Magic will come to the forefront...I think the rally the city had before the Jets game with the entire Orange-out was a huge success in getting the fans pumped up to make a bunch of noise that week...watching that game way out in CA I found myself getting fired up by just the noise and the Orange everywhere throughout the stadium...that game really seemed to have a Home-Field advantage for the Broncos that day...the only other game this past season I remember the cameras shakin' was during the 4th quarter heroics of Tebow in the Texans game. If Mile High can bring that type of atmosphere all season long I think a average-below average team could attain a 75 percent or better W-L record this coming season during it's home games.
