Since there's no NFL news other than she-said/she-said, I thought I would do something that I don't normally do: Post a Broncos mock a month+ before the draft.
I fully believe that Carolina will pick a QB with the top pick. That gives us the opportunity to grab a prospect that fits the value/need paradigm. We will also be in perfect position to trade down if someone wants the number 2 pick for a QB.
1 - Marcel Dareus, DT Alabama -- Not much to say about this pick. I think he starts day one and has a good/great career.
The top of the second round is a good place to be because teams will be adjusting to the first day of the draft and teams will want to trade up. This gives us the opportunity to trade down if we don't like what's there. It also gives us the benefit of getting prospects that we have 1st round grades on.
2a - Martez Wilson, LB Illinois -- I think he may be a late 1st round pick, but he definately fills a need at either MLB or SLB. This is 2 picks to bolster our front 7.
2b - Marvin Austin, DT North Carolina -- 3rd pick to address our front 7. Both he and Dareus fit the profile of larger DT's which Foxy seems to prefer.
3 - Ahmad Black, SS Florida -- We need some more youth in our secondary. I'm not sure he can start day 1, but I think he can be a situational player that will start later in his career.
If we amass other 3rd/4th round picks, here are some other prospects I would like to see us grab:
Joesph Barksdale, OT LSU
Greg Jones, LB Michigan State
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB Oregon State
Colin McCarthy, LB Miami
Greg Romeus, DE Pittsburgh
We will also need depth at TE/RB/FB/OT/DE/CB/S.
