Bronco Mock V.1

Figured now is as good a time as ever to put up my first Broncos-only mock of the year, after doing two first round mocks on Mocking the Draft (here and here). Like my first mock on MTD, this is a bit of a trial run to see if I've got people going in the right range.

I won't be mocking any trades until a CBA is reached, not even with draft picks (player trades are more fun).

With the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Von Miller OLB/DE Texas A&M

Though I'd personally prefer Patrick Peterson here, it's hard to go wrong with this pick (or so it seems), and Von Miller is one of the top players in the draft this year who could fill bigger needs for us. If this was the pick, it would make sense for him to play both SAM and DE as Rodney suggested last week.

With the 36th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Stephen Paea DT Oregon State

WE NEED FRONT SEVEN and Paea could step in day 1 and bring an immediate upgrade to our run defense.

With the 46th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Rahim Moore FS UCLA

With question marks surrounding our secondary, a young player with the potential to step in and start right away should be a priority. Moore may be that sort of player, as we grab the top safety in the draft right here.

With the 67th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

DeMarco Murray RB Oklahoma

In DeMarco Murray we'd be getting a back who considers Adrian Peterson "like a big brother to me," (Sporting News Draft Guide) so if he can stay healthy he could provide a great one-two punch with Knowshon.

With the 186th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Julius Thomas TE Portland State

A very raw prospect who excelled at basketball, he's worth the pick here and could potentially become a major factor in the offense in the future.

With the 189th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Cliff Matthews DE South Carolina

Depth along the line, and apparently a special teams contributor.

With the 246th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Ollie Ogbu DT Penn State

Nice name.
