Vikes considered trading for Orton, but have backed off
Orton is on the trading block. Like it or not. Denver is saying all the right things in order to keep Orton's value static, but behind closed doors, it seems as though there will be suitors for Kyle's services. I highly doubt this story would have come out if Denver wasn't in the market to move Kyle.
The question is: what will it take to land Orton?
My guess: That's why Minnesota walked away. I bet Denver wanted a #2. I personally don't think he's worth a #2, but I am curious what Minnesota WAS willing to part with.
That's making a lot of assumptions. We'll see!

If we got a second round pick I would be shcoked!
I would be happy with a 3rd round pick if we could get one. Hell, I’d probably take a 4th rounder if no one was biting at a 3rd rounder.

Lots we don't know about what happened
Whether the Vikes wanted a player trade or maybe a 3rd and 4th rather then a 2nd. Either way, we have no idea what happened. I do know a lot of fans would pay a 2nd for him, but who knows what GM’s think.

a lot of assumptions, indeed :)
And you know what they say about assumptions? Basically, I wouldn’t want to be umption right now….

Minnesota doesn't have a 3rd round draft pick
They lost that pick to New England in the Randy Moss trade, so it might be a factor. Its interesting to hear rumors on trades when there’s no CBA in place.

Come on Minnesota
you know you want him.
Offer a 4th this year and a conditional 4th next year that can go up to a 4th.

Dude....
If we are going to start talking about 4th’s and 5th’s I think I will keep him. A second is a stretch but a 3rd and 4th is reasonable.
Disagree
a 4th and 5th would be great.
Last year, we got Perrish Cox in the 5th.
Lots of good players are found in the mid rounds and we have no picks in rounds 4 and 5.
There are a lot of really good TE’s we can get in the mid rounds.
If we keep Orton, he is going to end up leaving Denver next year and we won’t get anything in return.

Agreed, way to low value
He was drafted for a 4th, and he’s a lot better now. I wouldn’t accept less then a 3rd and a 4th, maybe 3rd and 5th at the lowest.

Horrid
Would rather pay him double what he is making next year than go for a fourth or fifth, or even both.
OK, that’s a tad extreme, but I’d simply rather keep him. No way I’d trade him for a 4th and 5th, not in a million years.

why?
If we don’t trade him, he is going to cost 8 milion dollars to be a back up and he will leave without us getting anything.
Would rather get something then nothing and 4th and a 5th round pick from Minnesota would give us 2 picks in rounds we don’t have picks in.

I'd rather get a good pick
For a good player. 4th and 5th round guys you are basically hoping to get lucky with. If Orton can be a 14 game or more starter in the NFL, we should get the same in return. 2nd round pick value or bust.

You can be dumb... that's ok! There are many dumb people.
You can be an %&*hole... that's ok! There are many of these as well.
Unfortunately you cannot be both...
Ok... prove me wrong.
I don't understand...
If teams need a QB now, then why not spend a 2nd rounder on him? You cannot deny that he is better then many QBs in this years draft. Plus, he is proven—you know what you are getting for him.
So come on Minnesota, give us a 2nd!

Maybe they are looking into the rookies
If this were a normal off-season, we wouldn’t be worried about not trading him till mid pre-season, now if he doesn’t get traded soon, we are worried, darn CBA talk. I do agree, a number of teams, the Vikings and Cardinals for example, all have you rookies, but need to win now, that’s worth a 2nd for a few years while they let their rookies develop. Orton’s good enough to win a lot of games in a place like Minnesota.

Exactly!
Ugh….the damn CBA is putting a damp on the entire off season. I just pray that they get a deal done….SOON!!

Probably wanted us to
eat some of his contract.
Honestly, would we give a 2nd for hime?
With what we know and seen of him would we give a 2nd? If you take away the loyalty of having him on our team for two years would you really? If Orton was coming off of another team with the same record and same stats?
I don’t think so but I could be wrong. I just don’t remember anyone ever thinking Orton was going to be our guy when it was known of us getting him as a throw in from the bears.
I think that when the CBA is complete then his real value will come very fast. One would believe that teams are fighting just to get him off of our hands by what we read and I hope that they do.
I would love to get a 2nd for him but I would take a lot less so we can get some more picks instead of paying him 8mill and watching him leave next year for nothing.
If he is really worth a 2nd pick then we will get it. But if not, I will take any fair value that another team is to offer. And there is the question, what is his value?
My first value would be a 2nd, and then it would drop from there but I am going to get something at the end of the day because I see it as a total bust to pay him 8 million and then let him walk….
