Jerrod Johnson Texas A&M QB 2009 Highlights (via RedAzzTBird)
I am sure I will get my fair share of heat here for daring to bring up a QB, since obviously all of our current QB's are NFL elite stars and have proven they can play in this league. While I am not of the opinion that EFX will draft a QB early this year, I could see them looking later in the draft for a guy who can be developed and get rid of Brady Quinn this off season. Enter Jerrod Johnson. I would say that Johnson really is like Tim Tebow, minus the hype and some of the national acclaim of Tebow, Johnson stands 6' 5", runs a 4.75 sec 40 yard dash. He has good arm strength and can make all the NFL throws, yet is coming out of a spread offense and struggles with release, footwork, and accuracy, probably best when on the run and making athletic plays. His accuracy has been around 60% and his 2009 season was his best when he threw for 30 TD and just 9 int and threw for over 3,500 yards. His 2010 season was cut short, and he only played in 7 games, he holds most of Texas A & M passing records and has shown he can compete and win against better competition. Has excellent intangibles and comes from a great family, has shown he can be an excellent leader.
I would see him as a three year project, much how I saw Tebow last year. Had Johnson come out last year he may have been considered a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but his stock has slipped over last year. He had a very good pro-day throwing according to Gil Brand. I am not sure if Denver drafts a QB, but if Johnson is hanging around somewhere between 6 and 7, I could see Denver making a play, especically if we can pick up some extra picks by trading back. Please enjoy the highlights ( I apologize for the band music).
