Quick Take:
Classic long armed big framed TE prospect, he looks the part but has a ways to go before he can consistently play the part. Big red zone target, has soft hands and is versatile, having lined up at H-back, wing-back, slot and TE. Blocks on the run, but has some fundamental flaws in his blocking game that are holding him back. Bends at the waist and not nearly physical enough on down and angle blocks. Needs to move his feet more and do better about setting up his base. All that is lacking in the blocking category can be resolved with time and desire, because he has the tools.
Where He Goes in the Draft:
6th round.
What is Denver's Interest In Him?
High.
Without projecting any trades or moves, Smith can be there for the Broncos in the sixth without much worry. He brings a good developmental package with a high ceiling, which is rare for the 6th round. TE is a position that Denver will have to be very patient with over the next two years, but this makes a good first step in the right direction, and gives the TE coaches something solid to work with.
