I was reading the post here on MHR about how Elway is Tebow's biggest fan. I've had this thought before but with Elway's comments about Tebow needing to improve his pocket passing in order to succeed and his other comments about how the QB's in this draft all have holes and aren't on par with Stafford, Bradford, and Luck who he said are all elite QB's, it got me thinking a little more about it.
If Tebow does get his chance to start, and we loose a lot of our games, we'll be in a good position to draft early again next year (heaven forbid). But you'd really have to suck in order to get the #1 overall pick, and I just don't see that happening. If Elway's comments regarding Luck hold any weight, we may want to go after him next year. What would we need to do that? Extra 1st round draft picks. What if we take offers for next years 1st rounders instead of this years 2nd rounders? Maybe even not getting a 1st this year? Maybe we move down to the middle of the 1st round to a team that doesn't have a lot of ammo this year to get to #2, but are willing to give up next years 1st? If the Broncos play their cards right, we could get a decent 1st round DT, an extra 2nd or 3rd this year and someones 1st next year. This would give us two 1sts next year giving us a better chance to move up to the #1 overall spot to get Luck if it's really something we feel is necessary based on Tebow's play this year.
Before you all start blasting me, let me say this. I want Tebow to succeed. I'd like to see him turn into an elite QB who wins us multiple superbowls. We go this route and he succeeds? Hell, we've just given ourselves two 1st rounders next year to build an even better team with ala the Patriots drafting model. I'm just saying, if it doesn't work out, and Luck seems to be the next coming of Elway, should we hedge our bets?
GO BRONCOS!!!
