One of my poker buddies uses this expression instead of swearing and this couldnt be more true for me today.
Ring ring. There is a lockout. There is no free agency. Or at least if there is, it will be shortened and we can't count on getting starter caliber DTs.
Our last crop of DTs sucked and we cut them. So their backups are expected to start?
I've been reading this crap about how DTs are suddenly not important and that you can get 2-down run stuffing DTs quite easily. Really? If they were so plentifful, how come we didn't have four of them on our roster the last few years or have any now? This is a new phenomena?
Regarding the chance of a disruptive DT that can make plays in the backfield, rush the passer: those rounds have come and gone. I give up hope on them.
My hope is we can stop the run at least. But no, we draft a FS, TE, another ILB. As I write, we have (2) 7th round picks. I am certain we will pick RBs, QBs, WRs and Rush Linebackers, or even 2 more ILBs at this rate.
I just don't get it. And I don't think I'm alone here. Someone point out a top 10 defense and tell me with a straight face their DTs are below average. I will not believe the spin going on that we can stop the run with 3 linebackers, 2 safeties and 2 cornerbacks. I don't give *&#^@*! (again, speaking to the Lord) who we have and how good there are, they will be held back by a lack of interior d-line.
