Warning: This is rant so I did not edit and I’m sure I will rub some people the wrong way and I can assure you there is very rational thought or logic. I just felt the need to share my opinion on the QB situation and the Broncos…
I think Orton is a good and likeable guy. He seems to go about everything the right way and has put up pretty good numbers since he has been here. My problem is that Orton only won 11 games in 2 years and 6 of those games came when the Broncos had a top 5 defense. The only reason he won in Chicago was because they had a great defense and even better special teams play. Not once has Orton ever been considered a QB that can take a team on his shoulders and lead them to a Superbowl, so my question is: Why would we want Orton to start? So we can win 6-8 games this year and miss the playoffs? I’m sure we won’t have a top 5 defense so maybe we can blame it on the defense again. I’m not interested in the “It wasn’t Orton’s fault, we are a bad team” crap. Did the Patriots have a top 5 D? or even a top 10 D for that matter? No, and they still made the playoffs and won because Brady can take that team on his shoulders and lead them to wins. The Saints won a Superbowl with a mediocre defense because of who? Because of Drew Brees. If we can’t even make the playoffs with a weak defense then we are not winning a Superbowl with a good one. Nearly all Superbowl teams have a QB that is a proven leader and winner, guys that can motivate and inspire a team to WIN.
If we know that Orton is not bringing us home a Lombardi Trophy then why would we want him to start? Is it not the goal to win a Super Bowl? Or are we happy just winning 7-9 games every year? The Broncos have been champions in the past and ever since we expected the playoffs and started each season with Super Bowl aspirations. Why should that change now? If we want to win a Superbowl it is time to move on from Orton. Every year he is here is just another year we won’t make the playoffs and won’t win a Superbowl.
It is time to move on and time to let Tebow prove he is the answer and a winner, he will not disappoint. Tebow has the passion to win and his passion and desire to win is infectious. I saw it in his 3 games last year. The team played harder the fans cheered louder and Tebow made plays. Not once did I see the team play with that much heart and passion in the 1 and ¾ seasons Orton played.
I hear the group that would prefer Tebow to sit and learn and work on his skills but I say to them: Do you expect Tebow to get worse by starting? Do you expect him to adjust to the game by riding the pine? For every Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers there is a Big Ben and Peyton Manning so that argument doesn’t work. Tebow is not going to be rattled by a bad game and lose his confidence, he will be motivated to get better and learn from his mistakes. He has all offseason and every offseason to work on his footwork and refine his throwing motion, but you can’t simulate game speed and experience without playing. The longer Tebow sits the longer it takes for him to become great. He can change the attitude of this team and lead them to victories and that is what we need. He has what it takes to win a Superbowl and he is who should be starting.
I know longer want to except mediocrity. What are we doing in the bottom tier of the NFL? It is unacceptable. We are a better franchise than that and it is time to get back to dominating the AFC West and get back to our winning ways. It is time to bring the glory days and respect back to Denver. Let’s bring the Lombardi Trophy back to The Mile High City!!
