Leadership going forward

"Great leadership requires not just making the popular decision; but rather, having the courage to make the RIGHT decision."

That quote, attributed to many, best highlights what I saw from EFX in this years draft, and gives us a great deal of hope in their ability to rebuild the Broncos into a team of which we can again be proud.

Our defensive talent is pathetic, with holes virtually everywhere on the field. Like everyone in Broncoland and the MSM talking heads, I drooled at the prospect of bandaging the gaping wound that was our defensive line in this D line rich draft. As it turned out, in the "me too" mentality of the NFL, every team felt they had to "have one too." While the other teams "panned out" the D line mother lode, EFX passed and were able to effectively mine other, overlooked areas, and significantly improve an ailing D.

Upon reflection, I think most of agree with the choice of Miller, SMART (a serious concern with Dareus), great work ethic (a serious concern with Dareus), fast, can rush and cover receivers all over the field, etc...

In round two, Austin or Paea, right? Certainly, that would satisfy the faithful. As well reasoned in a previous post today by dungbeadles, , EFX had the choice of selecting the 15 best DT, or trading down and selecting the best safety in the draft, the second best guard, the best MLB, the second best SS, the second best TE and other talented hopefulls.,

It would have been popular to address the DT wound with a band-aid in round two. The MSM talking heads would surely have proclaimed this an "A" draft for the Broncos (reinforcing their own pre-draft wisdom). Does anyone really think that simply adding the 15th best DL in the draft would truly help? I, for one, am extremely heartened by the fact that they chose to make the right decision, not the popular one. For this, even if the picks don't turn out as well as we had hoped, I give the EFX braintrust an "A" in this draft for the courage to do what they believed to be the right thing, not just the popular thing, or the one that would appeal to the talking heads.
