Clear as Orange Mud
I’ll try to keep this as clear and concise as possible.
There are a numerous popular beliefs floating around Bronco Country, and frankly, I’m not sold...
· Fox is bringing a new offense to Denver, and all the players are back to square one learning it...I’m not clear on this; I thought McCoy was retained as OC partly to help maintain continuity on that side of the ball. My impression is that Fox will bring a different balance and preference to the offense, however, the language and plays would come courtesy the system McD implemented...just augmented and re-balanced.
· Ayers hasn’t shown he can play yet...I admit, he was probably a reach at #17 overall, but just like Tebow at #25 last year, McD showed an inclination to gamble on his 2nd 1st rounders in back-to-back draft years. (Both of his 1st 1st rounders (Knowshon and Demariyus) have been injury concerns too, not a good look, but not on topic either). Back to Ayers; I thought Ayers looked very good setting the edge in numerous games last year (Titans come to mind). When he went down with an injury, MHR was definitely sombre. Yet now, not much love. Granted, he hasn’t shown #17 overall-pedigree, however, we all know he switched to OLB and played well enough to be missed last year. Not having Dumervil was huge too. All of a sudden Ayers was expected to stop the run and get sacks in a Wink’s D which didn’t always seem too systematically sound.
· Knowshon hasn’t shown anything...come on yall...I give you the injury-concerns, but when Knowshon has been healthy and behind a competent line, he’s looked good-to-very good. He’s very good at catching out of the backfield and picking up hard yards. He’s able to identify blitzers and usually picks up the block and doesn’t shy away from contact. No, he doesn’t have a crazy top-end speed, and he isn’t a power back either...but I saw him run all over the Chiefs and Raiders last year, and he looked like a beast who needs more help from his Oline (scheme, coaching, consistency), needs to stay healthy and needs another RB or two to share the load with (effectively).
· Renaldo Hill is a bad player...other than his debacle in the Jet’s game, it’s hard for me to fault Renaldo Hill for much last year. He was one of the most consistent players on the team and how many times was his coverage (or lack of it) at fault for converted plays against our D? Last year’s consistent failures were Cox getting abused by veteran QB’s and receivers, as well as BDawk and LB’s getting owned by TE’s...oh yeah, and no pass rush minus Haggan against the Chiefs. If I was to grade Renaldo Hill l’d give him a “C” and that’s not a “C for Captain”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited about Moore and Carter, and still hope McBath can keep himself together...but I’m not ready to just write off Renaldo as a bad player; he’s not, and he’s done more positives for this defense in the last 2 years than he probably gets credit for. With that being said, I still would probably release him this year if possible...too many cooks in the DB kitchen...
· I was tempted to mention both Brady and Richard Quinn...not really sure what to think of these two; have they both been developing behind the scenes, or are they busy floppin and hoggin roster spots?
· And who here actually thinks Tebow ISN’T a flat-out Winner? Really...? Tebow has too much heart, he won’t lose.

totally totally agree...
i perhaps share more opinions and have made the same observations, more so than i think anyone else here.. kudos!!
go broncos!!
Very nice points.
I really believe in our reborn in 2011. I hope Ayers can play better than showed until now, since he’s back to 4-3 DE (former)… I do agree about Moreno and hope DeAngelo Williams to be his partnet. And althought many say Hill is not THAT BAD and we think yes because of the Jets game, I do think he is a C too.
About the Quinns, I see the Brady one even more apathetic than Orton… and I like Quinn not much than a B TE. I’m expecting a lot about Green and Thomas!
I bleed Orange & Blue.
I think you're insane!
Denver changes DC every year for the last six yers. Ayers changes from his college position to a new position and then changes DC’s every season and you say “he hasn’t shown me much”. When healthy last season (which very few Broncos were) he played pretty good considering he was in another system. Give him a chance under one DC for two or three years and he might show you something.
Richard Quinn has showed very little because he was stuck behind Graham as a blocking TE. It is really hard to show much from the bench. Brady had the same problem of not being able to complete passes from the bench.
I really don’t know how good these three are or will be, but neither do you! I played football and can tell you than one can’t change systems every year and reach his potiential. I know it is easier for a head coach to fire an assistant than the entire defense but they need to get stable coaching to ever be successful.

I think his point was...
that we SHOULD be more patient with Ayers, Moreno, and Hill. and not be so quick to dismiss.. My former roommate is a huge Browns fan and was surprised when Quinn was traded, especially how he rallied in the last 4 games of the 09 season. and its probably not fair to judge somebody by their time on the browns… especially WR or QB
thanks veggiez
We completely agree kansasbob, those were pretty much my points in other words (and/or more detail)…unless you’re bein super sarcastic kansas, and you already know we agree;)
you already know.
Thank U for being understanding if my progressive bi-focals doesn't
always work! lol
Kansas Bob
lol ^^^ lol
u guys are silly. every1 wants to start an argument because were all scared that Tebow will bust & have to be embarrassed by the raiders fans we know in our lives for another season.. or is this just how i feel.. i didnt want Tebow but i dont want him to be a bust.. im so scared lol..
NO PRESSURE= NO DIAMONDS
Not giving Tebow a complete chance
and having him end up working his magic somewhere else scares me more.
Nice write up
I think he have/had a lot of good players on the team that just weren’t playing together. I don’t know what they were doing at practice last year but it wasn’t working. We can have a much improved team on the field if the new coaching staff simply does a better job of preparing our team.
Thanks for this post, I almost agree with all of it :)
Opinions are like......, Well anyway, this is mine.
Wattup Sean (I'ma "Sean" too)
thanks for input, and you’re right; coaching and scheme were/are crucial the success of the player and team in general. Time to test the “coaching” variable.
you already know.
Ayers was #18 overall...
Josh Freeman was #17 overall
Good post
I agree with pretty much everything you wrote

I don't know how anyone is agreeing with you
I still don’t know what your point is. Obviously given the title, you think things in Broncoland are obscured. I just didn’t think your points did a very good job on explaining how things are so murky.
I'm sorry to have misled you Conrad
Was just my bringing up a couple trains of thought that have gained steam lately, and questioning them. The murkiness refers to lack of clarity…Moreno, Quinn’s, Ayers, Our new offensive approach under Fox; all topics that have stirred speculation here at MHR. If you don’t feel I made logical and reasonable assessments, that’s your take. I didn’t claim to be a stats guy or football guru, just a passionate Broncos fan with an opinion.
