Not much news these days . . .
And kudos to you for gleaning what there is, Zap. I hope Burger Bill is right about DeAngelo . . .

BILLY THOMPSON GOT SHAFTED!!
Yeah, well apparently Miami wants him (DeAngelo Williams) too...
No way do I want the broncos in a ‘bidding’ war with Miami or any other team for his services. Shell out the big bucks for the Defensive Line’s future and develop a back to play along side of Knowshon Moreno…I say no to Williams!
I agree I dont think Williams is that great we need Dline way more
Noshow Moreno will suffice for now

I don't always drink and drive, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis- BroncoPH
GO BRONCOS
Not if he is Noshow.
Can’t suffice if you’re in street clothes one in every three Sundays.
The Lockout bores me.
Williams is better?
By my count, Knowshon has missed 3 games in 2 years. Williams has missed 13 games over the same time span. Plus Knowshon outperformed him even behind our horrible o-line last year. He had some good years, but I wouldn’t risk any significant money on Williams right now.
Besides, that article was written by a guy referencing Bill Williamson of all people….
Oh boy. A Bill Williamson reference is never a wise thing to do.
Moreno has missed only three games, but has left five others early with injuries not to return. Which is even worse since we can’t activate someone during a game.
He also missed massive portions of both preseasons. Health has been elusive for him and not one of his selling points.
But I’m not really big on D Williams. I’d rather see us sign Sproles, Ronnie Brown. Barber (when he’s cut) or Cedric Benson. Maybe even Ricky Williams to be a part time player.
The Lockout bores me.
Yeah, I’m not saying we don’t need more depth there. I just don’t want to spend big at the RB position.
I do. Denver has a very low cap compared to most teams so we need to spend more, probably just to get to the floor.
You can thank Shanny for this because of so many draft misses in 2000-2005. We’ll have the same problem in a few years when it will be a bad investment to resign so-so McD draft picks like Ayers, Moreno, McBath, DT and Rich Quinn.
I want Denver to invest wisely and investing in a good RB like Ronnie Brown is much smarter than investing in a so-so DT like Cofield or Mebene.
The Lockout bores me.
This is wrong
Denver has the 5th most money committed for 2011 right now ($125 million), behind the Cowboys, Packers, Jets, and Giants. We are not likely to be big players in free agency, nor do we have cash to spend on high profile free agents. We have a good RB (who needs to stay healthy). We have almost no depth at DT.
We have to spend our money wisely to get the depth we need, and RBs are less important than the line they run behind. Since TD got hurt, the Broncos had maintained one of the best running games in the NFL by plugging in very mediocre RBs behind a great O-line. It’s one position I will never condone overspending on – unless it’s somebody truly special (like TD).
Here is the facts on that.
The Broncos currently have about $88 million in salary obligations for 2011.
The Lockout bores me.

Sign Ced Benson?
He’s a solid back, but is it wise to pay that much for a tailback with all the D-line help we need?

With Coach Zorro on our side, we will slice opponents to ribbons. Tim Tebow gives me hope and I already have faith and charity in my heart! I see a propitious future rife with Lombardis for our Broncos!

Benson would come cheaper than Williams
But he would still be fairly expensive, you are correct.

DT sucks in UFA Brad. That’s the problem. We’re stupid if we throw a bunch of money at a guy like Cofield that isn’t even all that good to begin with. I don’t want us overpaying average NFL starters. I’d rather sign above average players like Ronnie Brown or Darren Sproles. Real difference makers. Thanks to McD and Shanny’s crappy GM work, we have more than our fair share of lesser and so-so players. Do we really need more? Cofield is another Vickerson, Bannon or Marcus Thomas. Maybe he’s a little better, but not much.
The Lockout bores me.
Yikes
if Barry Cofield’s that bad, all I can say for him, is at least he has that Northwestern education to fall back on if it comes to that….

I agree McG, I would take any of those guys over Williams
They would also come cheaper as well.

UFA costs $$$ and not draft picks. Hence, we’ll always be competing for the best UFAs regardless of position.
And this 2011 RB class is a hell of a lot stronger than the DT class.
Our needs at DT are greater, no doubt, but if we’re shelling out big bucks, we are vastly overpaying for a DT vs getting better value at RB.
You need to think about that in your analysis. It’s also why we should have invested a higher 2011 pick at DT. It’s rare you can sign a good DT. You usually just end up overpaying for someone that you regret signing a year or two later.
The Lockout bores me.
Williams, LenDale White and Knowshon Moreno would be a perfect meld of experience and kill sets.
Plus we would be insured in case of injury….
I agree.
Good set of experienced backs with good depth. If the powers to be can make it happen I am all for it. Buck is done. Ball has potential but he is still not a premier back. I like the idea of Williams/White/Moreno

We would have to be insured
With all three have suffered injuries in the past.
