Both sides have been dragging this labor dispute out. What we fans really want is for this ugly mess to end. We've been ignored because they think we're powerless. What we need to do is find some way to pressure the two sides to come to an agreement as soon as possible. In most cases, season tickets have already been sold and those who haven't bought them yet don’t want to lose their rights, so we’re not going to get much presssure that way. After the parties finally do what we want them to do, work out their differences and get back on the field, it wouldn't be very realistic to expect fans to give up watching the first game of the season, though it would make a magnificent statement. And I don’t think it wouldn’t be constructive to punish the sides after the fact. But what about this?
What if everybody refuses to buy any product associated with the NFL in any way. I’m not just talking jersey’s and caps. I’m talking any product that has an official NFL license, i.e. the “Official Pick-up Truck of the NFL”, and the “Official Soup of the NFL” and the “Official Nasal Decogestant of the NFL,” etc. I'm also talking the NFL network, any preseason publications, and anything else associated with the league. Perhaps that might make them finally pay attention to the fans.
If enough people stop buying anything with NFL written on it, we might start to see some motion sooner rather than later. The parties know the best way to stop this boycott is to appease frustrated fans as quickly as possible, before the boycott gathers momentum. Once it gets rolling, it could take a long time to stop. People might learn that they don't really need that cap with the NFL logo on it and the other nasal decongestant works just as well.
If it says NFL on it, don't buy it.
I'm starting right now. What about you?
