Eight Games
Rumors are spreading that the owners are preparing for an eight game season beginning in October or November. My initial reaction was "Aw, crap!" But then I got to thinking, for the Broncos that might work out to be a pretty good deal.
It gives us an opportunity to sort out the QB situation and to deal one of them.
It gives us a chance to really look at the draft class. We can find out who is teachable, who is not; which of the "projects" with huge athleticism may pan out and can we stop the run?
It gives us second chance to look at free agency to fill holes and a whole other draft before 2012.

Where did you hear this?
And why do you think it will give us the opportunity to do all these things? It would seem that being able to sort out the QB situation and look at the rookies would depend on how much prep time a team has.

The second one should be a link.
My point is that an eight game season would/could be just like a really long camp except against top-notch talent instead of camp fodder and coaches, real coaches, would have an opportunity to teach. For example, Julius Thomas. There are some who felt he was a reach at TE in the fourth round. I find noone who questions his athleticism. This gives us a chance to teach him to be not only a pass-catching machine, but a powerful blocker as well.
2011 would be almost a disposable year.

Well, thanks for the link
But I think it’s much ado about nothing. Of course the NFL has contingency plans for most any eventuality, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. Florio is just jawing.
Much better if they settle it in June and allow for a full training camp in July and August.
But we’ll have to see what happens.

This is a last resort IMO
The NFL and the players want a full season. This thing will get resolved in time for a full season.
At least that is what I hope.

"They said I couldn't be a high school quarterback, they said I couldn't get a D1 scholarship. You're not good enough, you're not skilled enough. They said I couldn't win a heisman. They said I couldn't win a national championship. They said I wouldn't be a first round draft pick. They said I couldn't play in the league. Appreciate that." - Tim Tebow.
I think there will be a settlement before Owners and Players

Error,
It gives us an opportunity to sort out the QB situation and to deal one of them.
It gives us a chance to really look at the draft class. We can find out who is teachable, who is not; which of the “projects” with huge athleticism may pan out and can we stop the run?
No it doesn’t because in that plan there is only 5 weeks allowed for FA, TC and a preseason game all combined (according to the article). Not enough time to do any of those things. Up until that point the players will still be locked out so coaches won’t have any communication with players before that. It gives no additional times to do the things you are saying.
While this is only a last resort if a deal can’t get done, this plan would be an utter waste IMO. I would boycott the whole 8 game season if it came to that. If they won’t save this thing in time for a full season then I’ll take the season off. Don’t do me any favors NFL. I’m only paying your bills.

You miss my point
I’m saying we use 2011 as a “super training camp”. It gives us a year and five weeks.

I understand, but I still wouldn't watch it. They've screwed with us enough and It'll be the last straw if they choose to miss games because of it.
Thanks for clarifying though.

It's not about what you want though is it?
It is about what I want or the rest of the fans want. We don’t come into any of the caculations. We are just expected to shut up and pay up when the great and mighty have settled their differences

Yeah, I hear you.
The only way we will get a voice is if we, the fans, work together. But I can tell by the neglegible breeze my “If tit has NFL on it, don’t buy it,” idea stirred up that it isn’t going to happen.

Not a criticism...
I just think memorializing this mess in the record books with an 8 game season would take a long time to recover.

bragging about a division win at 4-4 isn't worth bragging about since anyone you tell it to won't give a rat's ass or think it's valid anyway.

When I seriously think about I get a bit irritated
…at first look I agree with you FF. This would be a good situation for our young team. But then I just think an 8 game season would be such a disappointment. If we seriously get less than 14 regular season games, I’m going to try real hard to talk myself into not watching any of them in protest.

I thought about that too, until I really took stock. Then I relized I would have to at least look at the roster. Then the box scores, and before you know it I would be back on the hard stuff. I remember when we had 11 game seasons and thought that was just wonderful.
We all hate it. But for me….I can’t stop saying
GO BRONCOS!!!

Ya I heard this on NFL Total Access too...
More than stinks if you ask me….I thought it would be shortened but not that short…you made some positive points here though. I was thinking when i heard this last night that this might benefit Tebow (assuming he earns the position) as he is the perfect choice and well built for a SPRINT to the playoffs…

I think it is the League posturing in the media
They need to stop worrying about contingency plans and get the deal done!

Perhaps the NFL hasn't realized...
That college football is way more fanbased than, say, college baseball or hockey…If the the NFL doesn’t get together with the players and end the lockout by July 1st then the season should be scrubbed and let the owners take whatever repercussions that might arise…No half way season…
Really good point
Wouldn’t it be a kick if some college games were played on Sundays? Why not?
Bring beer. I'm down to cognac.
I have heard murmurs about that
I don’t know if it would happen, but big matchups would be cool. Especially those teams that are normally out of our coverage areas.

I had to really think about this
I can’t say I’d boycott if they did this, though along with some of the newer (ridiculous) rule changes, they may be continuing down a path of changing this game drastically, and possibly irreparably, from what I grew up loving so much.
I do love how you’re looking at the positives about ‘if’ they did this though. That’s the best any of Us can do, is focus on the positives. Focusing on the negatives only does any of Us any good, if it leads to doing something about said negatives.

The idea
is that an eight game season would not count for anything. Even the record books would have an asterisk. So we avoid the pounding of a 16 game season, work on bringing a plethora of rookies and free agents into the fold to learn the new system, and make a decision on QB.
We all want a 16 game season. If the owners and players end up giving us an eight game season, it might not be all bad for the Broncos.
