3 Broncos among the league's least valuable?
#25 Laurence Maroney
Maroney spent most of his time in New England on the training table or working on his dreads, but the Broncos still dealt a fourth-round pick (getting a sixth-rounder in return) for a guy who promptly gained 74 yards on 36 carries. Then he got arrested for marijuana possession after a Rick Ross concert, which would only have been worse if Rick Ross actually made the arrest.
#20 Robert Ayers
Ayers was a hybrid pass-rusher taken in the middle of the first round. Two years into his "career," Ayers has actually produced 1.5 sacks, but he's also started 11 games and taken up a lot (of) snaps in the process.
#4 Daniel Coats
Coats dropped a third of the passes thrown to him in 2009 and then fumbled away two of the 18 catches he did make. His teams were smart enough to avoid throwing him the ball in 2010.

Ayers?
Especially given what the Broncos gave up for him, I understand why Maroney’s on the list. And I didn’t even remember Coats was a Bronco. But Ayers has been solid if unspectacular.
very dumb article.
Read it earlier and I came away wishing I hadn’t wasted 2 minutes of my life. They say it’s based on expectations, salary, skill amongst other things and Daniel Coats is No. 4? 9/10s of fans have no idea who the guy is. He has produced exactly what i expected of him…. nothing! How could this guy under perform that?
Same goes for Ayers. Basing this just on sacks alone is pretty dumb. Everyone here watched him play and before he got hurt and had been doing a solid job as an OLB. Even after that he had some nice games.
Can’t argue with Maroney though. Pretty recognizable name but very little production, both behind our crappy o-line and New England’s solid O-line. I always say that was the worst trade that McDaniels made without the benefit of hindsight. From the second that happened you could tell that this trade wouldn’t work out.

Seems he knows football as well as I know barbi dolls.
Sure I could write a list on top barbi doll design mistakes, but I’d probably look nearly as stupid.
Daniel Coats is a 3rd string TE that was signed for chump change last year and will now be released before collecting his approximate league minimum salary. How is having him on the list based on “playing time, expectations and salary”? that’s just plain stupid.
Having Coats on this list is like saying the four-way axle was the worst automotive concept failures of all time. Wait, the what? Yeah, exactly.
Robert Ayers? This is a guy that’s just misunderstood and was maybe even miscast at LB. We’ll never get people to understand what we mean until they see that he starts for this coach, too, and until we extend his contract. He’s not a sack artist. that’s all.
But how in the wtf can Ayers be on this list while Vernon Gholston isn’t? stupid.
Nate Irving over Mays at the MIKE position? No. Not just that. Nate Irving to the pro-bowl by year-two. He's my favorite new player, more than Miller even.
Somehow, in a conversation about the linebackers, bfree reminded me of this.

Who made this list?
There are some major issues I have with this list, not just the Broncos on it.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
One of THE dumbest articles I have ever read...and thats saying something!
"I actually watched the World Cup. I HATE baseball. Hockey’s over. Hey, at least we have the WNBA. Oh, man. I’m making a noose. Want one?"
Harv Neptune.
Is it Free Agency yet? Wake me up when it starts!
I’d put McBean and Nate Jones on this list all day long.. Ayers doesn’t belong.
The Lockout bores me.

a chance to revisit
First, no on Ayers. He’s actually produced a lot of hurries in his injury shortened and effected time.
Secondly, who cares about Coats. He was brought in to fill a hole when Gronkowski went out and as long as he can block — which apparently he can — he was a worthwhile pickup. These slot filler pickups aren’t supposed to be world beaters, they’re just supposed to do a particular job. BTW — also note that Coats played 3 seasons for Bengels before being let go during his 4th year.
Thirdly, I didn’t like us picking up Maroney but let’s look at what was going on, in case you’ve forgotten. Both Moreno and Buckhalter spent virtually the entire preseason injured and unable to play. White, who was picked up to help with that situation, went out in the last preseason game. Our RB corps was decimated. Maroney wasn’t an exciting pickup but he certainly fit the need criteria. We probably weren’t expecting much from him but we were desperate for help. He knew the system and could come at such a late date. He was also a highly valued player in recent times, as NE had been seeking a 1st for him not that long ago (09?).
I’ve never heard of the website this article was posted on. I’ve come to believe that almost anyone thinks they can stick numbers on things and pass it off as football analysis. I’m not sure how you calculate badness since every player who spent the season on the inactive list has an equal claim. And there’s no way to differentiate them on objective metrics, so this article was a really dumb idea. It’s supposed to be the equivalent of a ‘bust’ list but it fails at that when consider the utility that some of these players had.
