MHR Staffers Get Opinionated On Training Camp/ 2011 Season

First, the MHR staffers got opinionated on Free Agency. Next they got opinionated on the always controversial Tebow vs Orton. In the last part of the series, the MHR staffers are getting opinionated on Training Camp and the 2011 season. Every year, fans are always looking for certain players to break out, certain players to be in a fierce competition at training camp and others to have career years. I took the time to ask the MHR staffers some of these questions and more.

Jump with me to see the responses

First off, the people who responded were Brian Shrout, Tim Lynch, Kaptain Kirk, Troy Hufford, Sayre Bedinger, Jezru, Maxwellsdemon, and mdierk.

Here are the questions that they were asked:

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about?
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp?
What player do you think will/could break out this year?
Finally, can you give me 1 bold prediction about the Broncos. It could be about free agency, training camp, the 2011 season, or whatever you want. As long as it is Bronco-related.

Brian Shrout

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? Defensive Backfield. Dawkins/Bailey/Hill are aging rapidly and the young guys have yet to show that they can step it up on a consistent basis.

What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? Quarterback. I'm inclined to believe that we will see a major three-way competition. You'll have the quiet calm of the veteran Kyle Orton who tries to improve his game every year versus the exuberant youth of Tebow who is out to prove critics wrong versus a rejuvenated Quinn who's finally figured it out that no one is going to hand him a starter's job and he's going to have to fight for his chance. Should be fun.

What player do you think will/could break out this year? Whoever ends up starting at QB

1 Bold Prediction: We will see John Fox do in Denver what he did in Carolina. He took a team that had gone 8-8, 7-9, and 1-15 in consecutive seasons and improved their W/L record by 6 games in his first season. He will be the same for the Broncos and lead us to a 10-6 record with a legitimate shot at a wild card berth. (how's that for bold)

Tim Lynch

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? Safeties. We have lots of youth and youth=mistakes
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? QB. Orton is god when he isn't harassed and Tebow doesn't practice well yet Tebow is god when he is harassed and Orton is a bum. Who do you think will win in TC with the almighty red jersey.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? Knowshon Moreno. Tim Tebow in 2012
1 Bold Prediction: Kyle Orton will start week 1 but will be benched before the year is over. Broncos finish 7-9

Kaptain Kirk

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? Offensive Line, specifically the center position. J.D. Walton did an adequate job for a rookie, but he needs to improve by leaps and bounds this year to stabilize the line.
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? Just how John Fox runs his practices, Tebow's progress, the rookies and players coming off of injury (Dumervil, White, Willis). Training Camp is one of my favorite times of the year and I look forward to it.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? Lance Ball. Also, keep your eyes on Matthew Willis, Britt Davis, and Eric Decker.
1 Bold Prediction: DeMaryius Thomas will not see game action until Week 10 if at all this season.

Troy Hufford

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? Apart from DT, the RT spot worries me. I don't trust rookies.
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? I am really interested in the safety competition this training camp. Does Dawk have some wolverine claws left in the tank? Can McBath stay healthy? Will Moore start? How much are the Broncos willing to keep Dawk to mentor Moore? I want these questions answered but I don't know how definitive the answers can be with a short preseason.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? My breakout performer will be Eric Decker. He'll be the security blanket over the middle that Tebow needs.
1 Bold Prediction: The Broncos will be in the top twenty of scoring defense. With a defense that has been bottom of the heap for years, top twenty is a solid goal to have. Top fifteen will really make me happy, but i don't expect it.

Sayre Bedinger

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? Running Back/ Offensive Line
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? Safety
What player do you think will/could break out this year? Tim Tebow
1 Bold Prediction: I predict that the Broncos will beat every team in the division at least once.

Jezru

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? What freaks me out the most going into next season are our safeties.  Granted, we did draft the two best safeties we could, but considering the lockout they are going to be incredibly far behind.  Everyone thinks that B. Dawk will be around to mentor them.  I think occupying a roster spot simply for the purpose of providing that veteran leadership may not be the wisest of ideas.  How much of a leader can he be when he's on the bench for most of the game?  I like Dawkins, but he got tuckered out after the first few games last season and didn't recover.  He may be done.
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? The position battle I am most excited to see is Orton/Quinn vs. Tebow.  I'm about 90% certain that Orton (if he's still around at the start of camp - which I think he may be) will begin TC as the starter, but will be traded away leaving Tebow and Quinn to "battle" it out.  I am really excited to see what Von Miller can do.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? With all the talk about Ayers having a breakout season, I would enjoy seeing him come into his own this year.
1 Bold Prediction: Kyle Orton will be traded no later than the third pre-season game.

Maxwellsdemon

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? I would say RT, I don't think Harris comes back, and Franklin doesn't quiet seem right, and I don't have the same feeling about him as a rookie starting as I did about Walton or Beadles. But that is just based on what I've studied about him, there will be no way to know if there is a problem there till the season starts.
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? Wide receiver and safety, I think both positions are at a point where both the young guns and the vets are fighting for their jobs. I'm looking forward especially to seeing how Gaffney and Hill use their time and if they are head and shoulders above the young guys or whether it appears they are going to be phased out.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? While I don't know if you could consider it a break out season, but I expect both Walton and Beadles to improve on a tough by decent set of rookie years. They will hopefully be getting used to their teammates, and with experience, I expect both to have good years.
1 Bold Prediction: That's tough, okay, I'm going with the prediction that Moreno finally rushes for over 1,000 yards. That's bold right? Well if it's not, lets go with this, should Tim Tebow start game one, which I think he will, he will miss at least one game to injury.

Mdierk

Other then Defensive Tackle, what area of the Broncos are you most worried about? I actually have two areas.  One is RT with Orlando Franklin coming in as a rookie and whomever else is competing for that spot (Ryan Harris if he re-signed).  The other is ILB with Joe Mays and Nate Irving competing.
What position battle are you looking forward to watching at Training Camp? If Orton is not traded, then it will be the QB battle.  I still think that Tebow wins this out, bit it would garner full national attention if this happens.  If Orton is gone, then I'm looking at the defensive backfield with all of the safeties on the roster.  Something has to give there.
What player do you think will/could break out this year? This is a tie between both of the 2009 first round draft picks.  I think that Robert Ayers playing a more natural 4-3 DE will make vast improvements over being a 3-4 LB.  Knowshon Moreno will improve with the Zone-Block system and hitting the hole faster.  If he doesn't get some better cleats to keep him from slipping all over the place, he may actually rush for over 1000 yards.
1 Bold Prediction: I'll go out on a limb here for a bold prediction.  Denver will not lose a home game to the AFC West and they will have a winning record at home.  Their 20-20 record at home since 2006 is unacceptable.  Lately the visitors have been treating Mile High like a high end condo in Vail (too cushy and comfy).  It's past time for the Broncos to hit people in the mouth and wish they never come back for more.  The visitors do not fear coming to Denver anymore.
