The Denver Broncos Post-Lockout Refresher: Where Were We?
It certainly has been a rough ride this off-season. With most indications pointing to the a resolution to the NFL lockout within the next forty-eight hours,I thought it was important to offer a MHR refresher on the current state of Denver Broncos football. Without the typical news vacuum of the off-season to constantly rehash the moves and acquisitions of the Broncos, I don’t blame you for being foggy on all that’s has gone on over the last eight months.
Join me after the jump for a series of links I gathered to bring you back up to speed on just where the Broncos stand now that the lockout is (fingers crossed!) coming to an end.

Great Recap
As much as I would like to forget the last 6 months, this is a great list of links to summarize our pain. Thanks to all the MHR folks for keeping us entertained.
Looking forward, with the report today of the Broncos being $9 M over the projected cap, just how do you MHR folks think the team will be able to sign needed free agents and now which ones look more likely?
Orton, Tebow, Quinn, may the best man win!

One – I don’t think Legwold has a clue what he is talking about with our 2011 cap number. I’ve seen it listed as $102MM. If it’s cash, it will be much much lower.
That said, on the off chance someone at the DP has an IQ above 60 and isn’t dropping acid (Woody), we trade Orton ($8.6MM) and cut Dawkins ($7.5MM) and we’re good to go based on Legwold’s shaky math.
The Lockout bores me.
I look forward to the real facts on the cap
I’ve seen figures having the Broncos well over the projected cap and well under the projected cap, although the under numbers were some tome ago and I don’t remember where or what they were. I was definitely surprised to see Legwold’s figure today, which is why I asked the question. The truth is out there somewhere. Knock, knock.

It's hard to get a sense of what our current cap space is.
ESPN is reporting it’s slightly under the cap and that is with Dawkins and Orton salaries. Once we either trade/cut/renegotiate some of our vets contracts, then we should be under by a fair amount.
It should be under it enough that we can go out and sign Brandon Mebane, who should be number one on our wish list, and a complimentary RB. Preferably not Deangelo Williams.

I think we’ll be way under the cap when all is said and done. We’ve been relatively unaggressive (is that a word?) in UFA the last two years. We missed on so many draft picks from 2002-2005 that we don’t have many stars on 2nd contracts (just DJ and Champ). We’ve also got a look of young guys thanks to so many draft picks from 2009 and 2010. They always carry a small cap number once the signing bonus is paid.
We should be well under the cap.
The Lockout bores me.
What a cruel joke this is.
Refreshing people’s mind to last years suckiness, how dare you sir. I’ve had the best 2 1/2 months forgetting how bad we were last year and now you have to come in and remind me of the facts. Not cool.
That being said, this was useful. I had completely forgotten Royal had his hip worked on and was out for 6 months. I would have preferred to forget that but oh well. Also liked seeing the schedule again for this year. MNF opener at home against the raiders will be awesome! same with week 14 @ home vs the bears. We better be rocking our future Orange Crush jerseys for those two. Those two and the game @ Lambeau and the jets thursday night game at home are the games I am looking forward to most (excluding all divisional games). Ahhhh i want this lokcout to end!
