Did you read the whole article though? There’s thousands of receipts, phone calls, witnesses, etc etc. It’s VERY heavily documented. Some of the allegations will be not provable, but there will certainly be more things than, say, USC’s Reggie Bush saga. This makes the USC and OSU stuff look like accusations of too much stretching.

TCU had it, but there was not much doubt that the school absolutely knew what was going on in that case…….IMO, the whole thing hangs on how much knowledge can be PROVEN how far up the line of authority at Miami. shows you how misleading reports can be even if salted by the teams themselves. Based on article in Tracks, Miami is much closer to the salary cap than Denver, but reports were that Miami was resisting the trade because it expected Denver to have to cut Orton due to salary cap concerns. Now reports are that Henne has the full confidence of the players still on the team despite former player ripping Henne and some Miami fans revolting. Of course, some Denver fans (not me) were ripping Orton too. Yet, the media was touting this as a trade that had to be made.
If I can't have high expectations that succeed, I''d rather have high expectations and be disappointed than have low expectations and be resigned to losing.

Then it would be better for them than us to be picking a guy like Luck or Barkley while we use our pick on some DB or MLB. Or way overdraft a QB like Minnesota just did.

When it comes to business in football, truth is very relative. At the time of Orton’s proposed trade it could have been absolutely true that the team wanted to trade Orton. I believe to this day that the Broncos wanted to trade Orton and if not for Miami’s unwillingness to pay Orton a trade would have happened. That’s what I understand to be “truth”.
I also believe that Orton wasn’t about to take lesser money on a potentially worse team just because he wasn’t “wanted” in Denver. Kyle Orton doesn’t need these fans to love him. Truth is, he probably doesn’t care one bit about this state or these fans. And why should he? He’s a professional. He wants to make his money, get his stats, and be in a position when his FA comes up to make the kind of money he obviously thinks he deserves.
Kyle Orton thinks Kyle Orton is the shit. And he wants to get paid like it. The situation tells me that Denver was just hoping Miami was willing to pay him that kind of money. When they weren’t, well, the truth changed.
Nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors at Dove Valley or in Miami. But when a team doesn’t get what they initially wanted the have to go all in with what they’ve got. During the Orton trade talks Miami may have been gearing up to release Henne, but now that those talks are cold they have to change their tune completely. That doesn’t mean they were lying to us in the beginning, nor that they are lying to us now. The facts of the situation have changed. There is no way that an organization starts a QB and then attempt to take away his credibility, regardless of what has happened in the past. Henne’s teammates will rally around him because that is what teammates do… just like if he were traded to some other team they would rally around their new guy.
I personally wouldn’t be so cynical to say the reports are mis-leading, just that the situation changed.

I don’t disagree with anything you said. The point was that Miami was considered to be betting that Denver would have to cut Orton if a trade had to be worked out and that was a major reason why Miami resisted the trade. Yet, we now learn that Miami is only about $4M under the cap and Denver is a reported $20+M under the cap. So how credible was the report that Miami was banking on Orton being cut? Even if the salaries were as reported earlier when the trade was a hot rumor (Denver $6-9M over expected cap), surely GMs should be able to figure out that cap jugglers, like Xanders, would be able to work something out. That is why I think the reports that Miami was holding up on the trade because of Denver’s salary cap was misleading. Now, suddenly Miami is Henne friendly despite his performance. I’m not buying that either.

I don’t think many of us actually believed those rumors right..? The explanation I’d always heard was that Miami wanted to negotiate with Orton first… And what it came down to was that Orton bet on himself – that he’d get a better offer as a free agent next summer than he was getting from Miami. Orton said no to Miami’s extension, so Miami said no to the deal. Pretty simple actually, and it does make some semblance of sense.

All that was reported. But also repeatedly reported was that Miami was allegedly calling Denver’s bluff on trade compensation because of the salary cap. Other teams aren’t as inept as we’d all like them to be. He was clearly on the trading block, so how some of these folks can feel so secure that EFX has deemed him “the answer” is beyond me. Maybe “the answer for now”. My question is why, up to this point, hasn’t Orton been offered a long term deal by the Broncos. Here’s another question. Why is it a non issue that our starting quarterback was up for trade with coach Fox, but when it was McD and Cutler, the topic was plastered all over this place for weeks straight.

Because right now, he is the best answer for a team that wants to win. Excitement does not matter. Carrying a team does not matter. Rallying the team does not matter. That is not how you win in the NFL. Yes it brings in fans but so do the playoffs and you can get to the playoffs without the “intangibles”. It may be that Ortons (the Broncos) poor third down and redzone performance has lowered his value. Whatever happened, it appears the Broncos listened and Orton handled it like a pro.
My question is why, up to this point, hasn’t Orton been offered a long term deal by the Broncos.
The Broncos have two veteran QB’s with one year left and a 2nd year player with four years left. It seems likely to me that they are looking to Tebow to be the future QB and they will have a lot of options when it comes to the back ups. No need to jump into any long term commitments.
Here’s another question. Why is it a non issue that our starting quarterback was up for trade with coach Fox, but when it was McD and Cutler, the topic was plastered all over this place for weeks straight.
Cutler cried and stomped his feet. Orton said “You want me, you gotta pay”, then went to work. Small wonder Cutler is a bigger story.
My question is. Why do so many celebrate the changes this team has made to be better and doubt that our very capable veteran QB can take advantage of those improvements??

Apparently Dolye at CBS Sports trashes Tebow...
…watching ESPN 1st and 10 this morning, they were debating a piece by Doyle about Tebow and his faith. Doyle said it was his perception that Tebow felt his faith in God made Tebow fell a starting QB job in the NFL was his right because of God. Doyle went on to call Tebow blasphemous for believing this.
Sorry, a quick look and I couldn’t find Doyle’s article…but it must exist as it was discussed and quotes were put up on ESPN.
Where do I start with this absolute piece of trash. Let me say that I am not religious so I am not attacking from that perspective. But I would dare Doyle to say that same thing about a Jew or Muslim player. He wouldn’t dare. This was a shot at Christians, and if I was one, I would be royally pissed.
Second, Tebow’s work ethic is beyond question. Although many Christians (and those of other faiths) believe God does have a plan for them, Tebow still works his butt off. He isn’t expecting anything to just be handed to him. Sure he thought he was the starter and Orton was going to get traded, we all thought that. Can’t blame a guy for taking a big breath about the new reality. But he is still out there working hard.
Last, it shouldn’t matter if you are rooting for Orton or Tebow, this was pure trash journalism.

To say it made my wife’s blood boil would be an understatement.
He misstates the beliefs of most Christians to the point of making a (probably unknowing) bigoted statement. Mainstream Christian’s “trust in God” is not a belief that they will get what they want, it’s a belief that God will get them through difficulties. It’s a trust that when things aren’t going the way the believer wants them to, that there may be a great reason. (There are different nuances between denominations on this.)
“Trust in God” for most Christians does NOT mean that the “true believer” gets what they want. (Again, for most mainstream Christians.) The writer twists this to…
‘…I’m paraphrasing here, “I’ll be a starter in this league because God loves me that much.” …’
I wish the writer had just stuck to writing about Tebow’s mechanics and not write on something he knows so little about.

I have been told I must have many wives, I want to be God, and that I don;t believe in Christ by people that not only don’t know me, but don’t know my religion. Guess what? Doesn’t change how I feel, just kind of amusing, really….. unless they use their misconstrued beliefs to try justify harm. It seems to be true regardless of whether we are talking race relations, politics, religion or how to cook spaghetti. This is one reason it is often better for me to listen a lot and speak less….or as I am presently here in MHR, read a lot and comment in non-committal tones.

And that article is a complete embarrassment to journalism, let alone sports writing.
This has and will happen a lot. A relative no-name, like Doyle or Hodge, will say something outlandish about Tebow. Then everyone will start talking about the no-name (both pro and con).
All they are trying to do is get attention by leveraging Tebow’s popularity. The more you respond, the more they get what they really want. So ignore them.

Tebow is the best thing to happen to these guys. They will ride his coattails until he fails and claim they knew it all along…or until he succeeds and then they will claim they always wanted him to prove them wrong and be his biggest fans.
They just have to be hysterical enough to get heard in the first place.

still hoping for orton trade
after watching the game against dallas the other night, it reaffirmed my thoughts on the broncos. only had one series but orton is once again miserable in the end zone. on one of his plays that broke down, he had a chance to run it in from about the 4 and decided to throw it away. also, i thought the run defense would be better. typically in preseason a defense is further along than an offense. also, the running by mcgahee and johnson holds promise, moreno looks like the 3rd best there. and finally, i was excited to see tebow and quinn lead the offense. my point in trading orton is let the other 2 qb’s play this year. if they don’t get the job done we’re in the running next year for luck from stanford. since we’re in rebuilding mode i don’t see how orton fits into our long term.
I would sign off on Orton leaving
IF we can get Soliai or K. Langford in return from the Fins and if we have Brady Quinn be the starter until Tebow is ready. Seriously, how good did BQ look against the Cowboys!

If it was the regular season, I’d be right there with you saying that Orton should have tried to power that one in. However, nothing good comes from a QB risking a big shot trying to run the ball into the endzone during the preseason. He probably could have scored, but not without taking a big hit.

Guess how many rushing TDs Orton has in this 29 games as a Bronco? If you guessed ZERO, you are correct. You want to know why Orton doesn’t do as well in the red zone as he does between the 20s… this is a good place to start.
To my surprise, Orton had 98 rushing yards in 2010 with a ypc of 4.5. He also had three lost fumbles so that wasn’t something for the resume. Orton’s career ypc is 2.6, which is quite awful.

I’d agree that he needs to be more willing to do so in the regular season. I refuse to bash him for not doing it in a meaningless preseason game. Tebow taking the big shot last year to get his first preseason TD against Cinci wasn’t very smart either. I understood why he did it, but you don’t want your QBs taking big hits in games that don’t count.

it's all about leadership
orton could have set the tone for the other players, could have proved he has the mettle to lead this team. instead, he took the safe route, throw it away. i know it was a different situation entirely but i look back to the super bowl and elway’s famous helicopter run in the game. i knew right then that we would win the super bowl. that’s all i’m asking for, leadership. those guys must know that you’ll go into battle for them. that’s why i root for tebow, he’s going to give every effort. is he a polished passer, no way. seem to remember another leader of young men that lined up a couple times under guard….thanks #7 for leaving it all on the field!
As I have said golfdoc...if you want ONE of our QB's on the roster to make a play, who you going to choose.....probably know my answer!

Elway lined up behind guard once. Very memorable but really don’t need to embellish on it.
Kyle Orton’s finger was fractured so badly the bone stuck out of the skin. On his throwing hand. He played with a glove on and his passes were still tight spirals.
Kyle Orton came back in to LEAD this team (leadership?) when it was clear Chris Simms could not. He had a bum ankle and still had a glove on his throwing hand.
Kyle Orton is a designated team leader voted for by his team mates.
Kyle Orton is a Labor Union Representative, voted for by his team mates.
Can we just stop with the Kyle isn’t a leader crap?

In my dreams, we trade Orton to San Fran for their 2012 2nd round pick.
Those are dreams and not based in reality. In my reality, I foresee Orton as our starting QB in a season we go 6-10.

It's easy to see you have a problem with Orton.
And I am OK with that. But what do you feel our record would be with Tebow as #1? Better, or worse?
He's our starting QB until he isn't.
I see 6-10 - 8-8 either way.
Just far too many holes in that run defense. It will be good to build on though. Just won’t be our year this year.

missing the point
i don’t see it much different than orton. my whole thing is we are rebuilding, orton isn’t the long term solution. i would rather play tebow and quinn to see if they are the solution, if not we will have a good chance at luck from stanford next year. orton only leads us to mediocracy, the others have a chance to elevate us back to playoff teams.
THIS. Its not Orton vs Tebow (although I think Tebow will be great) its just Orton is not our long term guy.

We have NO chance for Luck
We don’t need Luck. Geez! For one thing a single year of play is not enough to evaluate Tebow. Even if Tebow stinks up the field in every game it does not mean he won’t learn. You don’t just keep taking chances on the next phenom out of college till you get a good one. That ignores the rest of the team and is a guarenteed recipe for disaster and losing seasons.
I see it all the time and I agree with this sentiment.
It ain’t madden or fantasy football. You can’t just keep trading and drafting players. You have to build a team which means getting to know the guys you play with. Understanding tendencies and learning how to play together.

Lately it occurs to me,
What a long strange trip it's been. Jerry Garcia
McD > McCoy.
Though the Orton supporters will say it is because we will run the ball more (which may be true but we weren’t as pass happy as many believe—we ran a fair amount just not very well early in the year last year).
Orton can’t get much worse in the 4th Q though so there is hope for improvement there.
