Quick Notes
· The Broncos started three rookies in last week’s game against Dallas. Number two overall pick Von Miller, 46th overall pick Orlando Franklin, and 45th overall pick Rahim Moore.
· The Broncos will host the Buffalo Bills in the seventh preseason meeting between the two original AFL charter franchises
· Denver last played Buffalo in the preseason in 2004, dropping a 16-6 decision at Ralph Wilson Stadium
· A total of 13 rookie college free agents are vying for a spot on Denver’s active roster. A college
· free agent has made Denver’s opening day 53-man roster in each of the last seven seasons
· During the Pat Bowlen era (1984-Pres.), the Broncos own the most regular-season wins (255) in the AFC (2nd in NFL)
· QB Tim Tebow started Denver’s final three games and finished with the highest passer rating (82.1) among the eight NFL rookies that opened a game in 2010, while registering the most rushing yards (199) over a quarterback’s first three starts in NFL history (since 1970 merger)
· WR Eddie Royal became the fifth player in franchise history to post at least 1,000 combined yards in each of his first three NFL seasons and joins New Orleans RB Darren Sproles as the only two NFL players to record 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 2,000 return yards since 2008.
· Champ Bailey was named to his 10th Pro Bowl in 2010 to set an NFL record for the cornerback position, passing Hall of Famer Mike Haynes
· Williams was the only player in the NFL to lead his team in both tackles (119) and sacks (5.5)
· P Britton Colquitt’s six games with a 50+ yard gross average in 2010 tied for first in the NFL in that category.
Matchups/Players To Watch
Nate Jones – Nate Jones led the Broncos in tackles last week but for the wrong reasons. He gave up many catches including a touchdown. He needs a strong rebound performance.
Running back Battle – The Broncos have several running backs trying to make the cut and the odds are higher now that LenDale White was released. Jeremiah Johnson last week was explosive and hopes to raise his stock.
Kyle McCarthy – McCarthy had a strong showing last week getting a hard sack showing lots of power. He also played well in coverage. He will compete with Rahim Moore for a starting spot.
CJ Spiller – Spiller (in my opinion) was a disappointment for the Bills last season. His numbers were not impressive and he needs a rebound season to live up to the high pick he was taken at.
Shawn Merriman - Shawn Merriman is trying to revive his career in Buffalo. He was always a Broncos killer and the Bills hope he can re-gain his Charger form.
Marcell Dareus – The Broncos passed on Dareus in the draft. Dareus vowed revenge and this will be the start along with the regular season matchup. He will also be a good test for our new running game.

Team Reports
BUFFALO BILLS
Rookie Report:
No. 1 pick Marcell Dareus recorded a sack in his Bills debut, hauling down Jay Cutler, the most sacked QB in the NFL last year, in Saturday's 10-3 loss to the Bears.
CB Aaron Williams made a spectacular leaping interception against the Bears near his goal-line.
LB Kelvin Sheppard continues to nurse a hamstring injury suffered early in camp.
SS Da'Norris Searcy had a tackle against the Bears.
Injury Report:
WR/PR Roscoe Parrish will also sit out after missing a week of practice due to a leg injury.
Head coach Chan Gailey officially ruled Merriman and Roscoe Parrish out for Saturday’s game.
LB Kelvin Sheppard did not play last Saturday in Chicago due to a lingering hamstring injury. He did not practice on Thursday and is Doubtful against Denver.
TE Shawn Nelson also missed Saturday's game with a muscle pull. He did not participate on Thursday and is Doubtful.
Other players who did not participate on Thursday were CB Justin Rogers, DE Kellen Heard, RT Chris Hairston, WR Craig "Buster" Davis and LB Chris White. They are Questionable
DT Torell Troup, who broke his hand in practice last Monday, played against the Bears with a soft cast and heavy wrap. Troup has a cracked bone and what he's able to do in practice will be closely monitored. List him as Probable
BRONCOS
Coach Fox named game captains for tomorrow's game vs. Buffalo: Offense - Lloyd, Clady; Defense - Bailey, Williams; Special Teams - Royal. The team has yet to vote on captains for the entire season.
According to the Denver Post, the Broncos starters will play into the 2nd quarter, but likely not the whole 1st half, against Buffalo.
Rookie Report:
The biggest rookie surprise during the first 2 weeks of training camp continues to be TE Julius Thomas, who is consistently running with the starters in two tight end formations along with Daniel Fells.
Three other 1st-day draft picks have continued on their path to jobs with the starting groups: No. 2 overall selection Von Miller at strong-side linebacker; Rahim Moore, the 2nd-round safety out of UCLA, and Orlando Franklin, the 2nd-round right tackle from Miami.
MLB Nate Irving has been battling an ankle injury that has impeded his training camp progress. Irving was the last rookie to sign, missing two days, and even before the current ailment had dropped to 3rd string behind Joe Mays and Mario Haggan. Braxton Kelley was getting 3rd-team reps in Irving's absence, which included the preseason opener.
Safety Quinton Carter from Oklahoma and Mohamed, 4th- and 6th-round selections, respectively, appear on a path to make the roster in reserve roles.
Denver's two 7th-round picks, Tight end Virgil Green out of Nevada and DE Jeremy Beal from Oklahoma, are buried down the depth chart and are currently longshots to make the 53-man cutdown.
Injury Report:
Safety Brian Dawkins and WR Brandon Lloyd both participated in practice on Friday and will play against Buffalo.
DT Ronnell Brown (ankle sprain) participated in Friday's walk-through practice. Consider him Probable.
DR Ty Warren (tricep), Marcus Thomas (pectoral), WR Demaryius Thomas (Achilles), TE Richard Quinn (knee) and Stanley Daniels (ankle) are Out.

Excellent write up as usual Colby
Dareus looked good last week, JD and Beadles better have their shoes on tight! Cant wait to see more of Von.
From the Bills side
Can’t wait to see our front 7 against your O line. The bears O line is underwhelming at best, and this should be a much better test for our revamped Defense.
The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
Well,
it seems like a long time since our offensive line received a compliment of any sort. Thanks, but I think we are just as interested in seeing how we do against your defensive line. Agree about the bears line, but if things go true to form, you will face a decent line with a less mobile QB, then an awful line (2nd string) with a more mobile QB.
I can say the 1st string will be nice to watch
However, after that, I’m hopping Tebow/Quinn make it out alive with the second and third string o-line.

Merriman won't play

I wonder how many games he will be suspended for. I think this is his 2nd or 3rd offense...
Maybe a year if he tests positive.
You all know that that story
Has at this point been pretty much shot down right?

Can’t wait to see (well, read) how Eric Decker is doing for the Broncos and how this game unfolds. Wasn’t a fan of Weber during his college years but curious to know how he’s fared during camp.
Decker will be starting this year
Between him and Eddie Royal, We’ve got a solid #1 and #2 position, even if Lloyd got hurt (knocking on wood right now). Decker’s been doing great! Considering Matt Willis, that means We’ve got a solid 1, 2 and 3. Our receiver and QB corp are unbelievable! Especially compared to some teams.
As far as Weber in Training Camp. About as average as any rookie in their first NFL training camp I’d say. He’s had some good plays, and his share of bad ones too. I wasn’t there every day, but from the days I was, I will be surprised if he stays on the 53 man roster for the Broncos, I’ll put it that way.

We would sorely miss Lloyd if he got hurt
I know you only called Decker and Royal “solid” as a one, two punch, but I just wanted to chime in to say that Lloyd is one of the few people we can’t do without, not without a major slip in overall team performance. Lloyd stretches the field, which is really something that neither Royal nor Decker are made to do. I love me some Eric Decker so don’t get me wrong, just saying that with D Thomas on PUP, Lloyd is pretty much irreplaceable.
Clady, Dumervil, Bailey and Lloyd are the most important and irreplaceable players for this season, IMO – partially due to their talent, partially due to the depth behind them. I’d already put Von Miller right behind them along with Knowshon Moreno (crazy, right?).
OK, so Brian and The Johns really did very well at the Defensive Tackle position, especially considering the limited cash budget they likely had to work with. I no longer hear laughter from opposing RBs in my nightmares!!!
We do have
McGahee and Ball. I know a lot you don’t like him. Still, with a solid o line we should still be able to run it.

McGahee's got skills, no doubt. But without the lightening (Moreno) to his thunder, no team will ever fear our run game
McGahee is short yardage back. He’s a bruiser that excels inside the tackles. He’s a guy that can wear a defense down and get us our conversion on 3rd and 2. But he’s not a guy that can be a lead back if Moreno goes down. Well, not a scary one, not anybody the defense needs to account for.
And ya, I don’t like Lance Ball. I think Johnson is the better back already.

Lloyd played like a true number one last year
there aren’t a lot of true number one receivers in the league, in terms of consistency, but lloyd could be joining them this year. He has the right toolset to be able to force a safety to cheat a little to his side of the field, which makes everyone else’s job easier. The value of star power for an NFl offense…
Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace.

Yeah, he really did
Honestly, I was a little worried that it may have just been a product of McDaniels’ system, or that he may turn out to be a one-year wonder for whatever reason. Reports from TC have already alleviated those concerns, though. I think he’s the real deal and like you said, he’s the kind of receiver that the defense, especially the free, needs to know where he is at all the time. His presence on the field helps stretch the defense away from the run game.
OK, so Brian and The Johns really did very well at the Defensive Tackle position, especially considering the limited cash budget they likely had to work with. I no longer hear laughter from opposing RBs in my nightmares!!!
Not crazy at all
Except that you’re focusing way too much on the ‘i’ word. AAAaaaahhh!!!
Heh heh. Yeah I think We have a solid three man corp with Lloyd, Royal and Decker. Willis and Riley rotating in and out… Along with Britt maybe. I think since McD’s first year, We have been getting better and better – and younger – depth at every position. Which is always great in this violent, short-career league.

Really?
Our receiver and QB corp are unbelievable! Especially compared to some teams.
I think our receiver corps are promising, but quite believable. Lloyd was amazing last year. Some of his catches were hard to believe. The guy’s hands and overall athleticism are off-the-charts. I really like Eddie Royal, because he’s easy to root for. I don’t think we’ll ever hear of him pulling a Perrish Cox. But his play regressed under McDaniels. I’d hoped he’d emerge as a better Wes Welker, but it didn’t happen. Decker is unproven and couldn’t start for the majority of the league’s teams (maybe 3/4s). Willis has looked great so far, but he can’t even beat out Decker.
Regarding your second claim about our QB corps. Are you joking? Our QBs stink. We all know about Orton. And although Tebow has potential, he stinks right now. And Quinn has always stunk. Sure, he looked decent this preseason against the Cowboy’s camp fodder, but so would Stone Gossard.
I’ll agree our QBs and WRs look better when compared to some teams. Like…oh, I don’t know…the Bills. But so what? Is that something to be excited about? I think not.
Truth shall be known.
by Agent Jerry Fletcher on Aug 20, 2011 8:17 AM MDT up reply actions
Not joking at all. My jokes are typically way more obvious, at least I hope they are...
That is my outlook on ’em.
Did you go to any Training Camp this year? All three Quarterbacks have severely improved from last year. Meaning Orton, Tebow and Quinn.
Orton most of all. He has consistently improved every season he has played in this league. I honestly wonder what you mean by
We all know about Orton
Because, what I know, is that he is a great quarterback, with mobility limitations. Not a hall of famer, maybe.
Great longball accuracy, great accuracy for the most part overall, Great pre and post snap vision, Good leadership (team captain every year as a Bronco so far, which the players vote for)… Obviously you’re in the camp that Orton either sucks, or is ‘an average game manager’ or whatever. I have witnessed him improve every year, and if he prepares himself to stay healthy and works on actually breaking into a run now and then, he could be a stellar QB. Some folks choose to ignore his positives. I understand that, even though it took a while.
Apparently my opinion differs, I choose to be excited about these guys more than last year or the year before at this time. I have also witnessed, fisrt-hand, their work ethic off camera, as it were in many days of Training Camp the last couple years. Our QB’s far from stink. Our QB and WR corp, and the rest of the team has me excited (except maybe Nate Jones) for this season. I am one who wouldn’t be ‘surprised’ if We won the division. Anywhoo… Great PJ quip by the way. Go Broncos!

I think we have different definitions of "great" then.
I think Peyton Manning is a “great” quarterback with mobility limitations.
But I’ll give you this: Orton looked good last night. Better than he has in the past. He looked like he was capable of making a play. Of “creating his own shot” if you will.
Except for that one play when he crapped the bed on an awkward scramble attempt and was sacked.
And Lloyd was Lloyd again. First, that oddly entertaining catch, when he unnecessarily jumped over/around the CB. Then, there was that streak pattern when the CB gave up thinking the ball was uncatchable. But somehow Lloyd gets full extension and almost comes up with a one-handed scoop before gracefully ending up on his feet after a somersalt. The dude’s amazing. Jackie Chan on a football field.
Truth shall be known.
by Agent Jerry Fletcher on Aug 21, 2011 8:00 AM MDT up reply actions
Yeah, I think I'm using the term loosely...
He does have a great longball. Other than that, above average is more of an accurate way to put it. Regardless, I think he’s great, overall….. That is a superb contrast though… Peyton. And Orton is certainly not quite that talented. I hope he gets all those awkward scrambles out of his system before regular season starts.
Lloyd reminds me of more of Bruce Lee, making his body like water and all (except his hands obviously). But yeah, there we go splittin’ hairs again, LoL… Seriously, I think he’s the most talented receiver playing at this time. But I’m bias, so I’d have to say, objectively, top three for sure though.

Eric decker in my honest opinion will be a star receiver in a few years.
Liken to Austin Collie. He has very good hands and shows that he can get open in space as well as catch passes in traffic. I think the Bills will get a two quarter dose of Decker, Lloyd and Royal. Another surprise is Eron Riley who I had high hopes for. He is a big physical receiver that can make the catches over defenders heads…This should be a good game and I’m especially excited to see how your OLine holds up under our new defense.
time for all those CFAs and TC superstars to prove themselves worth a slot!
the Man Crushes on these guys are weird. Fox may lose his job if he cuts willis and riley.

Raiders suck
Chargers are whiny douches
Chiefs are meh
Screw the Chiefs
I’m glad the Ravens’ scrubs beat them badly. It was a bit disturbing that their starters held their own against the Black Birds though

Hey Colby thanks a lot for the research! If I remember correctly, wasn’t the 2007 game a 15-14 win and the 2008 game a 30-23 loss? The 2007 game was the last second fg by Elam with the fg team running onto the field as time ticked away, and the 2008 game was Cutler overthrowing Stokely twice in a row at on 3rd/4th down for the tying score.

You got it Bronco Mike
That 08 game was with the playoffs on the line too…man that sucked. Probably wasn’t fair but I never forgave Cutler for that game. Not only did he stink it up but he acted like he could care less.

No worries
I’m sure that VonDoom will be able to put the whole Cutler situation to rest when they play this year;)

Great preview
But do you really have to list our last 5 years record? It hurts to look at it this early in the morning. Go Broncos!
Irony to me includes being lambasted on a Broncos site for defending our starting quarterback.
I'm sorry guys. I dont know what happened with the head-tohead results through the years.
I fixed it now. Everything was opposite
You can tune a piano but you cant tune a fish
Where to Watch?
Hey, anyone know of a good website where I can watch the game? Can’t get it on the TV.
If you and I agreed on everything one of us would be unnecessary
