How Drunk is Vern Lundquist During Broadcasts?
Vern Lundquist, an apparently successful announcer in the eyes of NBC, has made a complete buffoon of himself the last two Broncos preseason games.
Every announcer has a slip-up from time to time, but it seems like Vern is either "pre-gaming" a little too hard or his vision is so pitiful that he mistakes Eric Decker (6'3", 220 lbs, white, #87) with Willis McGahee (6'0", 235 lbs, black, #23).
Later, during the same drive of that disgustingly erroneous statement, he mentions Willis McGahee came to Denver because of the trade of Jabar Gaffney. Gaffney was traded to Washington. For Jeremy Jarmon. A defensive end.
Anybody who paid any attention to the minute offseason that spanned all of two weeks should have been aware the two main running backs every team in the NFL was looking at were McGahee and Marion Barber (who went to Chicago).
Obviously, I have the benefit of the internet to check my facts before spewing grossly ignorant statements into the heads of viewers/readers/listeners, but I promise I only used it to check the vitals of Decker/McGahee and to post this blog. Regardless of what I can look up, I am still aware of thoughts my brain process less than five seconds ago.
At the goalline, mere plays later, Vern mentions McGahee coming into the backfield to relieve Moreno. Within moments, Orton hands the ball off on the left side and the apparently shape-shifting Moreno runs the ball into the endzone. Vern, doing his best to remember the last few words he uttered, yells excitedly "KNOWSHON... No... McGahee. I beg your pardon."
Unfortunately, Knowshon Moreno cannot shape-shift into other running backs in the NFL. That would be awesome.
On the other hand, Vern Lundquist's announcing is anything but.
Please Vern, lay off the hooch before you go on television. For your own health, if not for the sanity of your viewers.

Somebody needs to get him a copy of the Depth Chart ASAP
It’s painful listenign to him
Somebody needs to put him in a home
give me Dave Logan and whoever wants to sit in the chair next to him as long as its not Al Williams. Where is Davis Diaz-Infante?

I'm glad Scott Hastings
isn’t Denver Dave’s color man anymore, if I can find one good thing about the NBA lockout (and I’m struggling) it’s that I won’t have to listen to Hastings during Nuggies games I find online

With Coach Zorro on our side, we will slice opponents to ribbons. Tim Tebow gives me hope and I already have faith and charity in my heart! I see a propitious future rife with Lombardis for our Broncos!

In a way, I was happy I had to listen to the Seahawks broadcast.
Vern is just . . . just turrible.

If Knowshon
plays like this then he doesn’t have to shift into being anyone else. It’s just like the Care Bears said when you were little: be yourself, that’s the best way to make friends!

well, unless yourself happens to be kind of a tool, in which case move on to plan B and try impersonating someone cooler than you. care bears left that part out.
That is funny!
it was kind of unrealistic, the toolish kids were always tools, and the cool kids never wanted to be their friend, gotta love the 80s

Very drunk.
But I like Al Williams. He’s funny.
Generally, I leave celebrities and sports stars alone when I see them. But Al and I were in line together and something kind of odd happened. When I made a comment about it, he laughed and struck up a conversation with me. He was very gracious and funny.
I think this is Al’s first take as a color commentary. I think his personality will give him some success. Contrast him with John Lynch, who seemed to spend his entire playing career prepping for his life after football and whose dad was in radio. Lynch gets in front of the camera and can’t put two words together.
Truth shall be known.

Verne seems like an affable elderly gentleman
and I don’t like being mean to old people. He probably has bad eyes and since he’s semi-retired just doesn’t know the game or the team as well as he did when he worked full time.
Leave! Verne! Alone! [sniff]
