A few seasons ago this was a team that could move the ball at will between the 20’s…

we piled up yards, but in the end failed to score enough points to win enough games to be a force in the league, in part because our defense was mediocre at best, and there was nothing special about our special teams…so we fired our coach (after a particularly bad loss against the Raiders) and hired a new coach who then set about dismantling what was among the best offenses in the league…he traded our young stud QB (among others) and drafted an unorthodox mix of players, mostly on the offensive side of the ball, and though our defense looked better under a new coordinator, our hotshot young coach fired that guy, and our defense returned to mediocrity, our special teams remained nothing special and our boy genius coach turned a journeyman QB into a fantasy stud who couldn’t seem to win any games, in part because the team still struggled to score in the red zone…and after little more than a season and a half we fired our new coach (after a particularly bad loss against the Raiders) and we hired a new coach with a defensive pedigree, and now despite the fact that our defense seems to be improving and our special teams, though inconsistent appear to be improving I am startled to find out that STILL we have a team that cannot get a ball in the end zone once we are inside the 20…I watch other teams do it with some regularity (nifty the counterpoint between the Broncos and the Patriots who played just before them tonight, eh?)…when we bid adieu to John Fox, I suggest we look for a coach that has a playbook that is designed to help a team score from inside the 20…because if he does not fix the problem, coach Fox will be here about as long as his predecessor…in hindsight, it was more fun to root for the Broncos before all the turmoil…we had ridiculously high hopes every year, but they were not without some merit…now, after watching perhaps the most poorly played NFL game of the last quarter century, I am left wondering if we could get a mulligan…Coach Shanahan, Jay…come on back…no hard feelings, OK?
