Suck for Luck. You see it here every so often. Suck for Luck. It's catchy. Suck for Luck. Everyone knows the last time we drafted a #1 quarterback he became a all-world, right? Well Karma is a bitch, this aught to give you the cold sweats at night.
Imagine the Broncos going 2-14 this year. Hard not to visualize it after last nights game. It's certainly easy to be of the mind that if we're going to be bad we might as well get Andrew Luck out of it. It's also easy to look at the Indianapolis Colts and reason that they are probably not going to do so well either this year without Peyton Manning. It wouldn't be hard to peg them at 3-13, or a couple games better than the Broncos since they have more talent on their team even without Manning. Having both Indianapolis and Denver with low picks is begging the cosmic powers that be to toy with us.
In 1983 John Elway was drafted by the Baltimore Colts who have been terrible since searching for a replacement for Johnny Unitas. They were so bad that John refused to sign a contract with the Colts and demanded to be traded or he'd go play baseball. A team in disarray even without the Elway demand, Irsay was forced to capitulate to the demands and at least get some more picks out of it. Overall the deal was disastrous for the Colts and franchise altering for the Denver Broncos. Essentially the Broncos got the #1 pick without ever having a #1 in which to pick him.
Peyton Manning's injury could be career threatening. Losing a Hall of Fame quarterback changes franchises and instantly puts them in rebuilding mode. Landing a top 3 pick would go a long way to helping them try to acquire Andrew Luck, at least putting them in the running for him. So you have the Broncos and the Colts once again fawning over a #1 pick nearly 30 years later. Karmic Justice always seems to be poetic.
With the Broncos franchise in disarray could you imagine Luck pulling an Elway (or a Manning) and refusing to play for the Denver Broncos? Wouldn't it be perfectly symmetrical for him to go to the Colts and put both franchises on opposite paths they were in 1983? Scary thought, isn't it?
Only 3 quarterbacks picked #1 have ever gone to the Hall of Fame. What's the odds that Luck is one of them? What's the odds that he refuses to play for the Broncos? Just something to think about when you can't get to sleep at night.
