I'd like to take a break from the.. uh.... usual topic of the day, and talk about a little gritty football stuff. I'm looking for an answer to a question, those of you who are experts in X's and O's. Why don’t we run the bootleg anymore? Elway was successful with it…. Plummer was successful with it…. but after Plummer, I don’t recall seeing a single bootleg. I know it was kind of a Shanahan thing, based on the success of the ZB run scheme, but Cutler never ran the bootleg that I remember. Maybe Orton’s feet don’t lend well to it, but it seems that since the bootleg is used with undersized linemen, where you know the pocket is going to collapse anyway, it would make sense just to run the bootleg and get the QB the heck out of dodge. I would think it would work GREAT with Tebow. You guys are all more expert than me… whatcha got?
What other schemes could work with our current personnel? Knowing what we know about Orton, the Oline, the run game, etc., how could we put these men in the best position to win?
