I know coming from a Panther fan, this may not have any validity and maybe this has all been said before. But, respectfully, I have to say, why are so many people demanding for Tebow after the first game? A few things I noticed on Monday Night.
1. Orton is not a franchise guy, but he is no slouch. With that said, if you can't get more than 38 yds on the ground you have only one option on offense... throw the ball. I know after Denver got behind, it became urgent to get back into the game. But, only 13 rushing attempts? Foxy/McCoy have to get that running game going. I love Mike McCoy but the play-calling became predictable the very second Denver got behind. Oakland capitalized. (and I hate Oakland)
2. He was sacked 5 times and was under pressure a good portion of the night. The O-Line HAS to do better. Any QB under this much pressure is bound to screw up.
3. Other guys put the ball on the ground too. I know it was really wet, but Orton wasn't the only guy to kill a drive.
4. The defense can't stop the run. Maybe more to blame for the loss than anything.
If you put all of these together they all interconnect. Any QB can be successful with an efficient run game, and time in the pocket. If your defense can't help the offense there's nothing much you can do. With everything that factored into the loss, I am surprised Kyle Orton didn't play worse. If you put Tebow under center, the run game continues to suffer, the defense gets ran over and you can't protect Tebow, you'll be in a far worse position than you imagined.
My final word: I know Denver wants to get back into the post-season, so does Carolina. And at some point we both will. Orton wasn't the leading cause of your loss, but he wasn't innocent. I think there are other things I would see as major concerns with Denver... and Orton isn't among them. Either way guys, good luck! Things will come around!
