TeeSlice Tales: The Return of the Jedi

First off let me introduce myself.  I am Tommy or as my username states TommyTSlice.  I have been a member of this site since the year of the 4 game collapse and the end of the Mike Shanahan era.  Back in those days I looked to this site as an escape to the heart crushing losses.  I was hooked on this site and loved the work of guys like TheSpotsGuru (John) and Zappa(Tim). I wrote pieces myself including one about how Cutler was maturing to becoming a true MVP (That sure went to opposite way, at least as a Bronco).  But the last few seasons I haven't wrote much not because I lost my love for the Broncos that will never die, but because I was hurt with the way our beloved Broncos were going. But here I am back at it again and ready to write a post about the greatest sports team on planet earth.  Follow me after the jump.

Star-divide

What can I say? Well I can start by saying that I was pissed at what McDaniels did to this team in his 2 year stint but also I kinda liked the guy.  I loved the fire he brought but damn he didn't have a clue how to handle this team.  His offense sure put up a fancy show through the air, but the ground game sure went to the crapper.  I was so angry when he traded Brandon Marshall, and then didn't take Dez Bryant, but his move to draft Tebow was the most thrilling pick he ever made.  I loved this kid in college and thought he was exactly what we needed.  But he was fired (thankfully) and now were on the verge of another new era here in Denver and so far so.........well 1-2 isn't exactly what I was hoping for but there still 13 games to go.

The new era of EFX (Elway, Fox, Xanders) is upon us and so far I have been pretty impressed despite the win/loss record.  They have taken the right steps in bringing us back to glory.  But, there is always a but, the decision to keep Orton as starting QB really grinds my gears.  Oh i know what your thinking, not another Tebow/Orton post, but hey Ortons had his shot in my eyes and I think now is the time to give the keys to Tebow.  Like I always say though I'm not going to worry about things I can't control.  I am just a fan who wants to see his team win.  I will root for the name on the jersey not the name on the back no matter what.  Broncos first players second.  I'm over Marshall being gone and I'm over Cutler being gone.  To me there just a player on another team and I rarely like players on other teams.  Do I feel Tebow is the future, you bet your hiny I do.  Those last 3 games last season brought me more joy than any of the previous games.  Yeah we were 1-2  in those games but it was exciting and I saw glimpses of what Tebow could be.  "No one else carrys the ball right here"  that is the kind of line that pumps me up for the future.

Now my thoughts on Orton are clearly this.  I like the guy I think he is a good Quarterback but he just lacks something and we all know it we've been watching him for 2+ seasons.  I simply can't take it anymore.  But its not my call, that call belongs to the man himself John Elway.  What can I say about John he's the greatest player in our teams history but damn John what do you have against Tebow?  Are you scared he might one day take over your legacy?  Whatever it is he deserves his chance.  I read a comment somewhere saying how Kyle Orton compares to Ryan Fitzpatrick.  How they get no respect or love.  When I saw that I thought the total opposite.  Fitzpatrick reminds me more of Tebow.  A guy with fire who makes clutch plays, and can carry his team with his emotion and pure greatness on the field to get the victory.  Orton is no Fitzpatrick thats for darn sure.  I've seen enough of Orton but I will still root and cheer for him if he is our starter.  Yes I am pro Tebow, I even named my puppy Tebow, but if he is not in I'm not gonna be angry because I can't control that.  I am a fan and am only one voice.

Now about the whole team.  I am pumped of the direction our defense is headed in.  Yeah were not there yet but the pieces are starting to come together.  Von Miller is an absolute stud.  We all see this and he will be a star in this league sooner rather than later.  The defense as a whole has holes still, Cassius needs to step his game up immediately or it can be a long year, but I'm hoping that will get better with the return of Champ, Doom, and DJ.  Has anyone else noticed some of the players bringing back the Mile High Salute.  I'm loving that, thats the kind of fire we need right there.  I believe we are headed in the right direction and soon we shall start seeing wins in these close games.  These tough losses only build character for our young team.  Yeah losing sucks and I cannot or will not ever accept it especially at home against the Raiders ( I live in Raider Nation gahh).  With every game we will get better.  How awesome was it to see the D hold Chris Johnson to only 75 total yards.  Were improving and we will get there. Patience Broncos Country patience.

As for next week, at Green Bay. Ouch!  We are marching straight into the hearts of the lions den in this game.  The reigning Super Bowl Champs and don't look like they have gotten any worst.  I never expect to lose a game but this will be a true challenge for our young team.  Lets hope the 2008 6-0 Kyle Orton shows up and not the 6-19 in his last 25 games Orton shows up.  Until next time Broncos Country, keep your heads up and as always Go Broncos!

Oh yeah

I sense that most of this fan base are young men (especially on this site). I am sure not the one to blame somebody for going off on an Orton rant….. the guy kind of deserves it for wanting paid like a franchise QB (which he will NEVER be). But I have learned that the older I get, I gain more and more patience with everything. Let’s enjoy the journey of turning into a winning team (wins and losses), and let’s be thankful there’s a culture change here in Denver. I could not bare to watch a McD inspired mutiny again. Now…… if we can only prevent an Orton mutiny…… hopefully it doesn’t get to that point either by Orton elevating his game (doubtful), or Tebow given the starting nod.

good post and welcome back.

There are a lot of positives about this team moving forward. The defense is really looking like it could become something special in a few years with Von and Doom at the helm. We have a great group of young WRs in Demaryius, Decker, Royal, Lloyd (if he sticks around). Also, a guy in Julius Thomas who, before he got hurt, looked like a real threat at TE. Add in the fact that we have an O-Line with one of the best left tackles in the game in Clady and a young O-line that should only improve with time and you realize this team is definitely on the way up.

I am a fan of a team in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. I haven't seen the playoffs since April 28th, 2008 (1st round exit by raps). I haven't seen playoffs past the 1st round since January 26th, 2006. Stop and think about how insane it is. And depressing.
