One of, if not the biggest, difference between the fans' perspective on the QB situation and Dove Valley's perspective is that. to Dove Valley (EFX, players, and coaching staff) this year is a new season with a completely fresh start. That includes Kyle Orton as an improved QB, who will now have an improved defense and an improved running game. But, to many long time Broncos fans, this is an experiment, at the most important position on the field ,that we feel has been going for its third year.
All coaches and ownership groups develop master plans that they feel are sound and will result in wins. IMO, EFX does not believe in Tebow as an NFL QB, also IMO they are not sold on Orton. Consequently, they made the decision to play KO and IMO believe their QB of the furture lies in next years draft or perhaps a FA. By making KO the starter they took the safe route. If KO has a great year you try and resign him, IMO they don't believe that will happen. EFX's QB of the future is not on the roster now. If KO has a poor to average year EFX will let him test the free agent market and draft thier own choice to be the next Bronco's QB. This year they can sell to the fans, "what KO can be with an improved running game and agood defense". EFX can even convince themselves that this is a new experiment; a fresh start and after all it has only been 3 games. But in reality it is not part of their master plan. Lot’s of the people here on MHR are buying the logic of KO with a better supporting cast . It has become obvious IMO that EFX doesn't want to play Tebow, or Quinn for that matter because if either one has a modicum of success then people will want him back and want us to draft for other needs.
The big difference is that for a great deal of the fan base this is not a new experiment. We have seen KO at QB for over two seasons. Yes this years draft looks good and the defense appears improved but the most important position in the NFL is still manned by the same old KO. EFXclaims they have only seen it for 3 games, but we have seen it for 3 years. That’s the big difference. Couple that with the fact that Tebow doesn’t fit into their long term plans and I don’t think we will get to see him play until about the same point he got to start last season.
I coached 20 years of HS basketball and about 10 of football as an assistant. It was funny but every basketball coach I know thinks football coaches are the most stubborn humans alive. Let’s hope Fox doesn’t fit that mold and that he will pull the trigger sooner rather than later.
What really makes me sad is that EFX has done some very good things but seem stubbornly stuck on the one that could have the greatest impact. The KO chioce to me was very safe and calculated.
I am a type "A" personality and not as patient as I should be but my patience has worn out at almost 30 games of KO the problem is John and John’s has just begun at 3 games.
