25. Denver Broncos -- Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson

Tight ends are usually a great aid to quarterbacks who struggle with accuracy. Allen won the Mackey Award for the nation's top tight end and could quickly become Tim Tebow's best friend.

Dont get this pick at all....

Need to see development of Big Julius and Virgil Green before TE even becomes a need for us.

Foxy...you WERE on the hot seat, but you fooled me you rascally old deveil...keep building that team mate!

"Tebow is a special player. I have never seen a player quite like him in my whole career! I’m gonna play all out for the guy! I know he will be out there giving 110% every play every week, so I’m gonna give 120%!:

and we still need some big time help on defense. some of those guys will be on AARP soon. free agency might be a spot to find a TE.

by oxmouth on Jan 11, 2012 10:11 AM MST up reply actions

No need for a TE, we need more pass rushers

Build up the defense to support our offensive philosophy of running the ball, eating the clock. Other teams are all passing the ball, strengthen the D so we can pressure rushing less than 5…..then see if we can find a steal CB later in the draft or pick up a free agent CB (like Grimes from ATL).

And like everyone said, this mock is embarrassing, its like he threw darts to make picks.

The Stanford TE's were solid as well.

Anyone know if they are going pro?

Cody Fleener I believe will be eligible in the draft this year

but he’s a day 2 or early day 3 pick.

And now for something completely different

Hate it.

I’d understand if we didnt have Julius…rather see a RB,CB,DT,WR,S,OL before TE

TEs are fairly easy to acquire as FAs

No need to draft a TE in the first round unless freakishly talented.

Allen is a 2nd round talent.

I think they’ll stick with McCoy until build a competitive team to plug a better QB.

Ah...NO!

We’ve got tight-ends! Tebow just doesn’t know how to use them yet. Best Player Available is the way to go, unless we’re totally stacked at that position (and I believe we are at TE: Rosario, Fells, Thomas, Green). I want some defense with a heaping side dish of defense and I wouldn’t mind an OL for desert.

but not in the first 2 rounds. but yeah BPA all the waaay. i think we are still going to reap the rewards of that last year!

I wouldn't say Tebow doesn't know how to use them.

Most of his wins there was always clutch catches from Fells and Rosario.

Yes but...

Remember last year? Leaps and bounds over that this season. I trust that the brain trust in Dove Valley will do a pretty decent job of this coming draft. What pick will we get again? 32?

We conquered this territory with our bodies and souls, then we watered it with our tears.
Go Denver!

by SSinSD on Jan 11, 2012 9:28 AM MST reply actions

TE is not what we need, we got those last year.

The next pick after ours on that mock draft is Donte Hightower. I say we’d pick him if he was still available. Stick with Defense for our first round pick: DT, MLB, or CB.

by SoCalBroncsFan on Jan 11, 2012 9:28 AM MST reply actions

This mock sucks

First of all when does the super bowl champion pick 25?

Also why in the world would we pick a TE when we have far greater needs in almost every area.

I get the TE sentiment, truth is we need one

Thomas and Green have barely seen the field and Rosario and Fells are hardly stars. But after watching that championship game I don’t think we’d pass on Hightower even though we picked up Irving.

by TennesseeBronco on Jan 11, 2012 10:18 AM MST reply actions

Any Gator Fan can tell you that Tim Loved his TEs at UF

I agree with most of the comments that we already have some guys with potential on the roster. Besides Fell and Rossario who have had a few nice catches as well as their blocking, there is Green and Thomas that it is to early to tell about. In addition, currently sitting on the Bronso Practice squad is Cornelius Ingram who was Tim’s go to TE in the 2007 season. Ingram’s stat were 34 catches, 508 yds, 14.9 YPC, and 7 TDs. Preseason 08 Ingram went down with a knee injury and never returned. Fortunately for Tim and the Gators, Aaron Hernandez stepped up. I always liked watching Ingram play. He is another ex basketball player that could jump and block. I know he has had two surgeries and so far his pro career has gone nowhere. I am hoping that he has been able to make a good recovery and can yet make an impact in the pros. It might be nice for Tim to throw to someone who he has had considerable success with in the past.

Really?

You want to make a mock draft before the darn season is even over and then you put out this garbage? There are like 10 picks that make almost no sense whatsoever.

TE isn’t anywhere near a priority for us in the 1st round. CB, MLB, RB, SAF could all use upgrades.

yep--RB.

even if you believe like a lot of people these days that RBs can wait until later in the draft, It still makes a ton more sense to grab a RB with our first pick than a TE. dude was high. i think he’s the goofy fella on the dan patrick show…

I don't know about that

Coby Fleener’s production can be directly attributed to Andrew Luck. Who was throwing passes to Dwayne Allen? Cue the crickets

That’s the main reason I would put Dwayne Allen way ahead of Coby Fleener.

Love the player but not a huge fan of the pick

Dwayne Allen is awesome but like everyone above have said we drafted 2 TE’s last year and we have more pressing needs.

by AlbertaBronc on Jan 11, 2012 11:53 AM MST reply actions

Tight end is just about the only position I wouldn’t want the Broncos to address in the first round (well, that and QB and FB). MLB, CB, DT, RB, OG, OT – take your pick. In fact, I think they should address all six of those positions in free agency and the draft before even considering adding another TE.

by EddieRoyalwithCheese on Jan 11, 2012 12:00 PM MST reply actions

Yeah we have tight ends, develop them

by Baghdad on Jan 11, 2012 12:03 PM MST reply actions

The first pick of the Broncos will probably one we don't expect.

Now there is talk of LSU DT Michael Brockers being the #1 DT in the draft if he decides to come out…A redshirt Sophomore who is a runstuffing DT…

Win, lose or draw, we are the Denver Broncos! 13-3 Baby!!! Until we ain't!

by bfree2bronc on Jan 11, 2012 2:57 PM MST reply actions

He is better than any DT in the draft this year and it's not even close

Still is the only guy I would consider to be competition but even then it’s a pretty easy decision on who is better.

Brockers is strong against the run but he’s more than a run stuffer. He can collapse the pocket well and it seems like he can get by offensive lineman with ease . He’s the best player on that LSU d-line and that line is arguably the best in all of college football. His age and experience does hurt him (think Amobi Akoye) but if Brockers declares I’d bet money that he won’t be available by the time the Broncos pick.

And now for something completely different

I agree with Elwayfan above

Lamar Miller should get a good look in the case that there are no clear impact defensive players remaining. IMO, he will be the best player available (if he is still available).

But I’d also like to somewhat defend the TE pick. No idea who Dwayne Allen is, and I don’t know how deep the TE crop will be in the upcoming draft. But if we do end up choosing a TE, it will be because we don’t have a consistent TE as a receiving threat who is also a competent blocker. We sure haven’t seen one this year, and Tebow needs one. Not saying it needs to be in the 1st round, but if it’s the best player available, then it’s worth considering if the rest of the elite defensive prospects are off the board.

by RoxWS2014 on Jan 11, 2012 3:38 PM MST reply actions

IMO Dwayne Allen is a 1st round talent and will be a stud in the NFL for years to come.

I wouldn’t be angry if the Broncos drafted him. I just think they should look at different options and try and develop the talent they drafted last year.

And now for something completely different

by AlbertaBronc on Jan 11, 2012 4:05 PM MST up reply actions

Any pick 25 and later is definitely BPA...

Dwayne Allen is definitely elite and could start week one. I would not hate this pick at all. Allen has WR speed in a TE’s body. And he can block, too. As cyngata pointed out, Timmy loves TEs and Allen could really aid in his development. Again, think BPA. Because we picked up a few projects and fill-ins last year is no reason not to go for the no. 1 TE in this draft in favour of the 4th or 5th best DT (just guessing who might be left.) I agree with the field that DT and CB are our top needs and we will certainly need a new RB and some O-line help but once more, BPA.

P.S., SB Nation has a great blog called Mocking The Draft. Y’all ought to join.
