Peyton Hillis
"Well before the 2011 NFL season was complete, signs began to emerge that the marriage between the Cleveland Browns and running back Peyton Hillis would end in divorce this offseason. That feeling hasn't changed in recent weeks, and in his assessment of the team's decisions on impending free agents this offseason, Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer opines that Hillis will be one of the players heading elsewhere. One interesting aspect raised by the scribe is just how far apart the two sides were in contract talks.
"Reportedly, Hillis was looking for $10 million in guarantees and the Browns were offering about $4 million," Grossi notes.
So who will be interested? ESPN AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley has a pair of logical destinations in mind:"

I would love to have Hillis back. What do you guys think? They mentioned Redskins and the Lions but why not us we are looking for another RB and I think Hillis could split with McGahee. We already have a good 3rd down back in Moreno.

I wouldn’t pay him 10 million in guarantee money with his injury history. I like Hillis and think he could do very well in a offense like ours, but I don’t think he is worth that kind of money. If we are going to pursue a big name RB in free agency, I would prefer Forte or Rice (not that their teams will let them go). I think we should take a good look at Grant. He seems like a good fit.

there was a lot of talk that Forte would be leaving Chicago this year
at least that was the case before they fired Angelo
And now for something completely different

If we have a shot at Forte we should take it. I still would be surprised for a team to let a player go that made up for 70% of their offense. Forte is really one of a few high priced FA’s that I think is actually worth it money wise. But it may be best to take one of the very good RB’s in the draft this year. There will likely be some good ones available.

I heard Forte is going back to the bears.
He knows if he tries to walk, they’ll franchise tag him and he won’t get the kind of money he wants at the moment. I won’t be shocked if they got something done right away.

I liked him when he was here but am glad now that he's gone. It seems from reports I've read that he isn't a great teammate.
Some Browns players called him out saying that he cares more about himself than the team essentially. The past is behind us, lets move on. I’d rather draft a RB in the first couple rounds than bring Hillis back personally.

Agreed.....rookie RBs can contribute immediately.....
….and for rookie contract prices. Spend the money elsewhere; but please, spend the money. I think with Tebowmania, the coffers should be full again and no reason not to spend it.

I wonder what made him change
He always seemed to be a real tem-first guy while here. I feel his punishing running style would complement McGahee.

HaHaHaHaaaaa...I'll never forget when he and BMarsh were sitting together on the bench and BM said to him "You don't really want to be here do you"? Classic BMarsh.

I never heard about that one
I was sitting next to KK at training camp when he totally crushed a LB (Webster?) in a drill. I have never seen two human beings hit that hard before in my life.

I thought everybody remembered that one...It was not to long before McD shipped him out.

Not at 10mil! There are far more fish to fry than paying a injury proe RB for so much. It won't happen in Denver.
Now if you want to go afte Matt Forte then we’ll talk…

i would say at maybe 2-4 mil a season
But with mcgahee already here we need more of a Slasher. A 1 cut a go to the house. Lamicheal James would be that kinda of Guy.

I'm all in... but not paying this price.

He was great for us at first
But as time went on, my impression of him diminished. Now I see him as a potential malcontent and injury risk. He’s definitely not worth $10M.
Running backs are a dime a dozen
I wouldn’t touch him for $10 million. There are numerous RB’s in this year’s draft with a ton of potential.

No, no, and no.
He was injured with us, and injured a fair amount with Cleveland. Also, he seems to have attitude problems. I have read multiple articles about his success essentially going to his head, him not being a team player. This team purged all the players with personality issues… lets not start bringing them back.
2011 was just the tip
They say the cool is all over me..
The $10mm figure
seems representative of the attitude shift. As you all observe, those numbers are absurd. I wonder if he is getting some bad advise somewhere.

Sad, but it’s up to him.

I loved him when he was here, I dont really like what he has become though
The guy was a great draft pick. 4.5 speed at his weight is very impressive. I dont like him anymore though.
Stop living in the past
He’s a “me” guy, he proved that this year. They had to have an intervention with his contract situation.
I have commented on other posts that I would love to see Hillis back in Denver uniform.
But I do not see that happening for two reasons. The first is money. I just don’t think that Denver will be willing to pay what Hillis is likely going to ask for. However, if he is on the market for a while and doesn’t get any bites at his asking price, then he may come down to a price that EFX could live with. But there is still the second reason I don’t see it happening and that is I don’t think Hillis would want to come back to Denver. I met him last year and I came away with the impression that he didn’t have many good memories of his time with the Broncos. He seemed relieved to be gone more than anything. Also, his girlfriend is a shrew, and who wants another one of those griping about their player being in Denver? I’m looking at you Lala Vasquez. Lol.
Never let them see you bleed.

This is good information - thanks for sharing.
My guess is that the best offer he will get is as a back-up RB or possibly a change-of-pace / goal line guy.
I guess I just liked the “old” Hillis.

Holy crap and after this season Hillis is NOT worth 10 million
He’s no Ray Rice, Adrian Foster, Adrian Petersen, etc. He had ONE good year and suddenly thinks he should get paid like those guys especially after his pouty attitude; i.e. sitting out game because of strep throat?

Hillis is was and always was a selfish jerk....
Also has been injured almost 2/3 of his career someone else can have this lockerroom problem. Broncos don’t have tons of talent but the locker room is good!
He who is good at at making excuses is seldom good at anything else
I am way beyond being over this guy
Oh, and no freaking way is he worth anywhere $10 million guaranteed. Our team has a bunch of good guys and I don’t need any player coming in and messing that up.
