Senior Bowl 2012 - South Roster

The South Senior Bowl 2012 team will be coached by the Washington Redskins coaching staff including head coach Mike Shanahan, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, running backs coach Bobby Turner and defensive backs coach Bob Slowik (soon to be linebackers coach).

There are several players on the South team's roster that are on the Denver Broncos radar, we will get further into that throughout the week. For now check out the full South roster and speak up about who you're looking out for in the comments.

The 2012 Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday January 28th at 4:00 PM EST.

I'll be watching all the defensive guys

of course. I am really curious about Quinton Coples for some reason. I think it’s because as the #1 DE he isn’t getting the attention that the top DE should get. Imagine if the #1 DE slid to where we go go up and grab him. Him and Ayers switching in and out of the lineup would be outstanding.
I also want to see Terrance Ganaway, he’s a 241 pound RB with 4.62 speed. I like the sound of him. A FB/RB type. Who needs Tolbert :).

Courtney Upshaw weighed in at 273 lbs

that’ll probably slow him down and he’ll most likely slim down by the combine but at that weight he might be able to play LE in a 4-3. Upshaw is my favorite player on this roster and I’d love for him to show he could play in a 4-3 and then drop to us on draft day. It’s incredibly unlikely he makes it out of the top 20 but still, love to have him.

And now for something completely different

He's just like Ayers.

What makes him better than Ayers?

He actually collected sacks in college

Not the flashiest pass rusher but still manages to hit the QB a lot and he always shows up big when it matters most. He was Alabama’s MVP on defense in the BC$ championship game. Every time I watched Bama this year, he was making huge plays in the backfield against both the run and pass.

thanks for mocking the BC$, Alberta :)

With Coach Zorro on our side, we will slice opponents to ribbons. Tim Tebow gives me hope and I already have faith and charity in my heart! I see a propitious future rife with Lombardis for our Broncos!

I dont think he has the size to hold up

He is bigger than Doom, but I don’t think big enough. I would think he has to be projected as a 3-4 OLB doesn’t he? I agree he can rush the passer, but we need a 300+# guy that can rush the passer to go with Doom and Von.

by brettden on Jan 23, 2012 9:14 PM MST up reply actions

I agree completely

and I don’t think 273 is the best weight for him either. It’s just if he shows up this week and proves he can play in DE in a 4-3 (which is the position he will play at the senior bowl) I would absolutely kill for him to be on this team. Yes I know he’s not the big 3 technique we need but if he’s available when we are picking (which is an insane longshot) he would be by far BPA and EFX would be insane to pass.

Don't forget most people had Von Miller pegged as a 3-4 only player till the senior bowl

where he changed a fair bit of minds

Here are the guys I'll have my eye on

Terrance Ganaway RB (241 lbs? If he is fast then yes please)

Emmanuel Acho (has some experience playing MLB in college. wonder if he could transition)

Quinton Coples DE (could be lethal opposite Doom)

Jeff Fuller (Tall WR with good size. How fast is he and will he get separation?)

Melvin Ingram DE (another possible 1st round pass rusher)

Brandon Thompson DT

Dwight Jones WR (another big bodied WR)

Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.

I say yes

to Coples and Thompson, or one or the other I don’t care. Just get one of these guys on our roster. Better yet find a way to get both of these guys on our roster!

by brettden on Jan 23, 2012 9:15 PM MST up reply actions

Looking at that roster their is a lot of pure talent at DT on that roster

players who never reached their full potential

Tydreke Powell
Kheeston Randall
Jaye Howard
Tony Jerod-Eddie

Any one of those players has the potential to blow up this weekend. Throw in Thompson and a couple of the best pass rushers in the league and a sick DL.

We need safetys and corners

and the biggest DB listed is just over 6’ and 200 Lbs. These guys aren’t going to be able to cover the Gronkowskis of the NFL.

They're all interesting prospects...

I think Mike Mayock and crew will be doing practice analysis all week on NFL Network…

Win, lose or draw, we are the Denver Broncos! 13-3 Baby!!! Until we ain't!

Janoris Jenkins and Casey Hayward are the guys to watch

We might (fingers crossed) be able to get Jenkins in the late 1st and we could probably (fingers crossed again) get Hayward in the 3rd. Both of those guys would be day 1 starters IMO.

I say pass on this guy

Too little and if we compare him to Brees (similar size) he has had nowhere near the production, and nowhere near the amount of passing offense instruction that Brees got in college. I suppose he will show his stuff in the game (is he in this game?). But I am thinking he will take several years before he is ready to read and distribute in the nfl.

by brettden on Jan 23, 2012 9:19 PM MST up reply actions

One of the toughest football players I’ve ever watched play. He is #2 on the Arkansas all-time list for either receptions or yards (can’t remember which — Jarius Wright is #1 on both of them, and Adams is close enough that it wasn’t clear until the year ended who would hold that record).

Great addition as a punt returner.

If anyone is interested, I can show some examples of Joe’s toughness.

Hmm, my youtube links didn't post...

Let me see if I can fix that…

This return is kind of an example of bad decision making turning out ok against lesser competition (Missouri State in this case), but it’s still a TD. :)

I got sucked into watching youtube videos for a few minutes and had to post this one. It’s a great example of his speed — and balance, I guess.
