Football Novice Question
While I admire the game greatly, I am hoping some more seasoned experts can answer this question.
If teams are content to “contain” Tebow in the pocket by not over-rushing, and adding a “spy” LB in case he runs, what can the coaching staff do to counter this? Is designed roll out ‘s the key? I suppose that might work, but then you only have half the field, unless the QB throws across the field (and those sometimes end up pick-6’s).
Again, I don’t have answers, just questions. There has to be something more imaginative than running into 8-9 box defenders.
we could counter it with a roll out option pass
or perhaps a bootleg screen, can’t say I’ve seen too many of these by design, I would imagine it could work.
Perhaps give Decker a few more throws than the one we gave him in the season. A bootleg with Tebow fleaflicker/option to decker would be awesome
The Definition of an optimist: A Buffalo Bills fan waiting at Buffalo Niagara International Airport for the Bills to return from winning the Super Bowl.
The best part about the contain Tebow in the pocket strategy for Tebow is that he often has a lot of time in the pocket. Teams are not rushing with abandon. So Tim needs to make some throws he wasn’t vs Buffalo or evening trying to make vs KC. Would also be nice if it didn’t seem like most of our pass routes are run well down the field. It seems like Tebow looks deep on the majority of his drop backs and our WRs are clearly running these routes. Helps put some perspective on the completion % when we are often trying to complete low probably bombs or deep passes.
If you keep an LB as the spy, he’ll likely be in the middle of the field which should open up the deep middle to your TEs (say 15 yards down field). Tebow has shown a reluctance to attack this area of the field and Denver doesn’t use their TEs much.
Tebow needs to make better throws if he has ample time in the pocket and McCoy needs to incorporate the TE into the offense. Perhaps it’s time to break out Julius Thomas.
I don’t see how bootleg works all that well if the DEs are not rushing the QB with abandon. If they are being more patient in their approach, the bootleg theoretically shouldn’t work. And neither should the screen game. Those plays work best against an aggressive D like ours.
Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).

I think opening up the game passing rather than running and building his confidence early on would be substantial in any of these playoff games
I think it would go a long way…. we know we can run the ball. We need to get into rhythm passing

we have to commit to giving Tim those opportunities, so he can excel. Let’s do this Tebow, I believe in you!

I believe in him too but something isn't adding up.
I’m not sure if it is the WR’s lack of reps
Play calling
OL
Tebow
Or a combination of all of them
good point McGeorge
it is no coincidence that the Saints offense is successful and that the majority of the routes are intermediate, if it’s good enough for Drew Brees, assuredly it is good enough for Tebow

I wonder what the odds are that decker runs the wrong route on a flea flicker again?

Brees didn't find the right coach who beleived in him till after 4 years..
Experience and time helps confidence. . Also the chemistry beween a QB and a coach I don’t think can be underplayed. Harbaugh / Alex Smith is only one other recent example.
GB 2
This is very true for Smith
He was really improving under OC Norv Turner and seemed to regress once Norv left and became HC in SD. Of course that could also be due to his frequent early injuries.
It helps more then it hurts us
If they have a guy spying the qb then if we run it they have one less guy going after the running back so it opens holes up easier but in the passing game it forces they them to run a lot more man coverage so then its one on one with one guy just following tebow step for step and should be easier to get open but if they run zone coverage and we have more then 2 wr running routes they are going to have holes between their zones because that takes on less man in a zone so everyone’s zone becomes bigger
So if we can exexcute off that game plan they we should be fine :)

It's a shame fans need to be asked such a thing.
Don’t people understand that the whole home-field-advantage thing requires the stadium to be filled with fans of the HOME team, not the visitors? Unfortunately, money talks, and that’s all that seems to matter to a lot of people. And if people are selling because they desparately need the money, then they shouldn’t have bought the tickets to begin with.
It's a shame how closed minded most people are any more period.
I can’t believe when I go to a home game and have to live with people trying to rile up the home crowd, when Our offense is on the field!!!
The density of your average person is pretty sad.
