Wide receiver Eric Decker: "I think the biggest thing in this league is to be unpredictable. Pass or run on first down, get 3, 4 yards, get second-and-short, allow ourselves more success." I hope someone cuts this quote out and posts it on Mike McCoy's office door. Maybe even duck tape it to his forehead

If McCoy was a good OC and play caller, we’d have had at least one good offensive season in the last three. But Mike is zero for three as Denver’s OC in terms of making us an effective offense.

He couldn’t get it done with Orton and McD. Couldn’t get it done with Orton and Fox and can’t get it done with Tebow and Fox.

The excuse machine for Mike McCoy is no different than the one for Tebow or Orton. It’s gotten lame.

Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).

Yeah...it is very humorous actually

He’s getting tons of cred for this work with our offense this year…the cred belongs to the players and Tebow especially for making the option type system work when we use it.

McCoy’s biggest problem is the point of this fanshot…he’s predictable. The only thing he’s shown me is that he either doesn’t or isn’t willing to adjust or shake things up on game day. It is always by the books play calling.

but wait there's more...

He’s also developed a very alarming tendency that I’m certain other teams have picked up on. As soon as something goes wrong on offense (bad pass, Int, fumble etc..) he becomes even more conservative and tends to just start calling run after run.

I’m guessing he must be really really smart and has been saving his creativity and aggressive playcalling for the playoffs :).

On an even more interesting note, I think the tension between Elway saying the playcalling is suspect and Tim just needs to “pull the trigger” and McCoy/ Fox saying play it safe and “any series of downs that ends with a kick is a good one” has to be causing some conflict. Whether it be with Tim and McCoy, Elway and Fox or even possibly Fox and Mccoy. I’m hoping that Tim and Mike decide to play / call plays like there’s no tomorrow…because there won’t be if something doesn’t change.

"I’m guessing he must be really really smart and has been saving his creativity and aggressive playcalling for the playoffs"

I said that a few weeks ago, and I hope it’s true. That would be the only explanation for the ridiculously predictable calls.

I’m not at the fire McCoy stage yet, but if he doesn’t change it up this week, he probably never will.

I’m not hopeful he will spread it out this week, and that makes me sad. :(

W-L record doesn't matter to me.... I just want to see a team on the rise at the end of the year!

But what about the secret plan (in the dark recesses of my brain)?

Unless there is a secret plan to trade Tebow to them as well. The Jags would likely hugely overpay in terms of draft pics because they would finally be able to sell tickets. Remember, it is a business. I am not saying this should happen, but it is not impossible to conceive of it. I really can’t think of another reason why the Jags would be looking at McCoy as a potential head coaching hire.

So, what could Jags offer Broncos in terms of draft pics that would be worth trading Tebow?

by Bradoncadonc on Jan 5, 2012 2:52 PM MST up reply actions

I don't know why they would be looking at McCoy either

But hey, if they want to sink millions into him, then go for it. Then go get an OC that will bring back the mike shanhan offense. I actually think Tebow would flourish in an offense like that. Bootleg it all day long. I’d love to get Rick Dennison.

No chance of McCoy getting HC job!

The Jags will hire Gruden! We get to keep McCoy!

The Jags have several better candidates than McCoy.

Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).

Saw that in the DP as well.

Au contraire Zappa, predictability is everything in the NFL. It’s why Lebeau’s Zone blitz is so successful, it’s why the Packer and Saints have such high powered offenses (sure, you know they’ll pass but they have 9 billion formations and variations of the same play).
Methinks Deck gets “it” and is calling Mccoy out!

Foxy...you WERE on the hot seat, but you fooled me you rascally old deveil...keep building that team mate!

I am ready for Decker to get his walking papers! First he throws Tebow under the bus earlier this season and now our OC?!

If Decker could make a catch or get open he might see the ball more often!!!! See ya Decker we can replace you next season with an undrafted free agent that run a route and get separation from a defender once in a while!!!

by Adam Manter on Jan 5, 2012 9:49 AM MST reply actions

Your comment confuses and concerns me

How do you see this as ‘throwing McCoy under the bus’?

Saying We need to be unpredictable is far from throwing the Offensive Coordinator under the bus…. It is pure truth. Take the Jets game. Prior to that game, We had just beaten Oakland and the week before the Jets, ran all over the Chiefs… Tebow only completed two passes against the Chiefs remember. Then the first play against the Jets? A pass play. That was unpredictable. That was just a small example, We have done some pretty unpredictable things in the last few weeks as well, it’s just that the execution wasn’t there.

Also curious as to what you perceived as Eric throwing Tebow ‘under the bus’?

i'll take matt willis' comment.
“I don’t think (throwing more short passes) is going to fix the problems. It’s receivers getting open and catching the ball. It’s not what routes we run. It’s about making plays.”

doesn’t matter if decker’s right or wrong—he just needs to worry about himself.

I hope Eric Decker (and the rest of the WRs) starts catching the ball when the quarterback gets it to where it should be caught.

As much as I’ve been an Eric Decker fan, he certainly hasn’t been a shining star the last several weeks.

That's because he's been double teamed.

Teams know that his favorite deep threat. That’s why DT has been getting more throws. I think Willis should get more throws his way.

by tiderfootball09 on Jan 5, 2012 3:22 PM MST up reply actions

Maybe,

but being double teamed has nothing to do with balls bouncing off his hands.

Tebow needs to realize what open is in the NFL. Its tight windows and it has to be on time

by always broncs on Jan 5, 2012 4:34 PM MST via mobile reply actions

40 drops since Tebow has started...plenty of blame to go around I would say...and OC who needs to be running fot the Republican Party hes so conservative.

Your post assumes that John Fox agrees with the 'NFL definition of open...'

He’s conservative. Puts a high priority on not turning the ball over, trusting the defense and the rushing game. Open in the Packers offense may not be open in John Fox’s offense.

My guess is that Tebow’s been trained a bit to be OVERLY conservative. In fact the recent press conferences would suggest so – and Elway asking Tebow to pull the trigger more is a move in the right direction which I believe the coaching staff is embracing more (verbally anyway).

We’ll see Sunday I guess.

Nobody said their wasn’t its a team game. Just an observation don’t get go defensive like everyone does if someone says a word about tebow.

by always broncs on Jan 5, 2012 7:00 PM MST via mobile reply actions

Not defensive man......Your post points out one part....it simply more than that...orton suffered from drops, mental lapses by his team mates and mediocre play calling as well...

Nevermind. I understand people’s frustration with the play calling but it goes a little deeper then that. I know receivers need to catch better & run better routes. I clearly think McCoy needs to mix things up more on first down. I rooting for Tim but this isn’t college and receivers generally don’t run wide open unless its a blown zone coverage. I was just stating Tim needs to improve on just decisions a little quicker. I know the tram has plenty of little issues that are hurting them right now but god forbid me from saying one small flaw in Tim’s game. More throws would help this but possessions are a premium in the playoffs.

LOL, I didn't see the close quote after the word success....

…. and thought for just a brief second that the tape this to John Fox’s forehead phrase was part of Decker’s quote.
