GO GET EM BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the trax, Kaptain. Tebow posted Hebrews 12:1 this morning…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

Or as a cowboy might say when he lets loose his horse to run with total abandon…give him his head!!

People fear the Tebow because they do not understand the Tebow.

But since Dawkins joined the team in 2009, the Broncos have never won a game without him in the lineup.

I am going to be very disappointed if the Broncos jump ship on Tebow because of this game.

Young QBs need development. If the Broncos draft a QB? Fine.

If they try to trade for or sign a veteran, I think that demonstrates that the organization is grasping at straws and not willing to give players a legitimate chance. Tebow hasn’t been given a full chance yet. He hasn’t had a full offseason. He’s lost his two best WRs. He also took a team going nowhere to the playoffs.

I’m just uncomfortable with what’s being said right now. Especially with making Tebow look over his shoulder for, of all people, Brady Quinn.

by Tezcatlipoca on Jan 8, 2012 10:41 AM MST reply actions

Yes. Though good QBs need competition to stay sharp.

Not saying Quinn should be that competition, and you’re probably right that signing a veteran QB to press as a starter would not make much sense, but Broncos will definitely need to bring in another QB next year anyway, might as well make it a good young QB who is starter capable. The more the merrier, and whoever the best man is who wins, whether Tebow or another, the Broncos will be better off. Personally, I still like the idea of Matt Flynn, who is still quite young, but his style is rather different from Tebow so it may be hard for them to co-exist.

Anyway, no matter what they’ll bring in another QB whether FA or draft. It’s up to Tebow to respond and mature so it doesn’t matter.

There are lots of options out there and the free agency and draft might give us some clues to our direction.

As accurate as Case Keenum is, I wonder how well he would do in a Tebow offense? Or Adam Weber whom we drafted last year? If Tebow is the future then a mobil quarterback would be a no-brainer imo.

This is the playoffs.

It’s not the time to worry about grooming next years QB. It’s not the time to worry about egos and building up some ones confidence for next year. The coaches need to do what they think will help them win now. If that includes pulling the QB so be it. We can worry about his confidence in the off season.

You know there is a deep down consensus in the media for the Broncos to fail at every level?

Don’t listen to the talking-heads for they only know enough football to write about it. What the Broncos need in the offseason is a BIG time power back to get this train a rolling and a pair of CBs that can take on the taller receivers in the league. Add in a LDE pass rushing specialist and a DT here and OT there and BAM! Offseason will feel alot better. I read an article where Tebow a second year QB has a pair of 2nd year receivers with the 2nd youngest OLine. That tells a huge story of where the Broncos should be and are at the moment. Give this group some time together and let the unit come together gel into the offense we expect it to be…Today’s game has very little effect with the direction the Broncos are going.

Oh

I agree with this completely. I can be pretty critical of the Broncos and Tebow, but I am certainly a believer in the potential in this team. I think the secondary is the No. 1 concern in draft. But: I’m not a Broncos obsessive like some of you and am curious to hear other opinions.

Mike McCoy needs to put him in a situation where Tim is successful...

If anybody thinks they’ll all of a sudden open up the passing game I’ve got some beach-front property in Iowa for them. The Broncos will come out and try to establish the run just like they’ve done in the past and with some success it will open up the passing opportunities. Coming out passing like Drew Brees and it will lead to disaster, mark my words.

Today Tim Tebow makes his playoff debut. On December 24th, 1983,
John Elway made his first playoff appearance. In that game, Elway and the Broncos lost to Seattle, 31-7.
Elway had 123 yards passing, no TD’s, 1 INT.

Fans would do well to remember how rough it can be just starting out.
This is only an FYI, not a comparison.

You missed the point Boiler was making in the get go...

John Elway like some many great quarterback didn’t come out in his first year and set the league on fire. It takes time for a team to gel together as a unit, from Tebow on down to his receivers, runningbacks and OLine…This definitel wasn’t a season for measuring anything in terms of where Tebow could be, not with all of the troubles in the offseason. Give the Broncos an offseason of hands on teaching and training and we’ll see where it goes.

What do you guys think of Quinn playing on third downs?

Is that a legitimate strategy, or do you think it is just something they floated to get Pittsburgh thinking?

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:00 PM MST reply actions

I'm hoping it's a smoke flare.

I see nothing beneficial about starting a QB who last saw NFL action that mattered in 1923 (wasn’t particularly good at it, either) and is a completely different style of QB than the starter.

by Tezcatlipoca on Jan 8, 2012 12:01 PM MST up reply actions

Agree

I found it a bit strange…the timing of it in particular. If you’d even leak that at all, why a few hours before the game? Obviously the team knows, but what do you have to gain by letting your opponent hear about it?

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:04 PM MST up reply actions

I might be alone

But I like this idea. Especially if Tim is in there as a fullback (har har) or a receiver.

I’ve come a long way on Tebow, but I have my doubts about his abilities as a passer. Don’t think it is a mechanical thing so much as a mental thing. Which is to say Tebow will be fine next year. But right now, for the sake of beating a good Steelers D, Denver ought to do anything it takes to win.

"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"

by Fly Agaric on Jan 8, 2012 12:08 PM MST up reply actions

Your doubts are justified. I’m a Steelers fan, but I like to think I am a fan of the entire league as well. I have experience in coaching and scouting, and I can tell you flat-out there’s very little that he does that would be considered “outstanding.” He has a very limited skill set, and more of the reason Denver’s been successful is despite Tebow, not because of him.

I don’t feel there’s a worse in-game passer in the league. But the style in which he plays is extremely difficult to prepare for. I’d even go as far as to say it’s essentially impossible. He takes strategy out of the game, and when you play strategic, well-prepared teams (Pittsburgh), if they can’t game-plan for you, part of what makes them great is gone.

Think back to when you were a kid playing with your friends in the neighborhood. You obviously didn’t sit and watch film, you just knew that Brian Urick (kid in my neighborhood) was big and really fast. If Brian Urick wanted to score, he probably would.

Brian Urick, as it turns out, was a terrible quarterback (Division I hockey player though), but he made things happen simply because he was bigger and faster than everyone else.

Tebow’s success (or whatever you call it) is based on the fact he plays his ass off, and he’s big and quick. It’s hard to take a guy down who really REALLY does not want to be taken down. But those skills have nothing to do with him throwing the ball.

Now…if you could use his skill in running in conjunction with Quinn’s better skills in passing, you can basically play your strengths in a way the Steelers cannot prepare for.

I think it’s insane enough to work. I have a very irrational feeling of discomfort right now.

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:23 PM MST up reply actions

Good to hear

But the truth is Fox is so conservative as a coach that there is NO WAY the Broncos would dare throw such a curveball. Sure, I expect Tebow to throw the ball more on 1st and 2nd downs, but really, I expect the Denver defense to be tested. Again.

I see Brady Quinn as Chris Simms in terms as coming into a game rusty and unprepared for real time...

Against the Steelers he would get killed if not sack on nearly every play…

by bfree2bronc on Jan 8, 2012 12:43 PM MST up reply actions

He had some good preseason outings

So I’m pretty sure the “reason” wasn’t exactly a football related one so much as a public relations one. There was no billboard campaign to start him over the immensely likable Tim Tebow. Also: I remember at least one game early in the season where Quinn was the No. 2 QB, not Tebow.

"Rollin' in the club / HAPPY MEAL"

by Fly Agaric on Jan 8, 2012 1:04 PM MST up reply actions

uhhhm ok

I seriously doubt our coaching staff is going to sit someone purely for “public” criticism. To think so is laughable. They re in the business of winning football games, not placating the “arm chair” GM"S out there. If Quinn was really the answer he would have come in instead of Tebow. The preseason games that Quinn even looked half way decent were against 3rd and 4th stringers…..In the last game when he played against 1st stringers he showed just how bad he still is. Your argument is flawed at best and smacks of “conspiracy nut” LMAO!

I have no idea

I can only imagine the hate and venom that will be directed at Quinn (through absolutely no fault of his own either) if he does come in. Poor guy.

by BroncoMarc on Jan 8, 2012 12:04 PM MST reply actions

I have a sneaking suspicion it will work, though

In-game QB changes always seem beneficial to the offense. Quinn prepared to play the Steelers all week, but the Steelers didn’t prepare to play Quinn. No one’s seen him play in anything meaningful since 2009. Clearly, they’re two completely different quarterbacks. It’s hard to prepare at a high level for both.

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:10 PM MST up reply actions

You you really think it will be that bad?

I know a lot of Broncos fans are pretty serious about the Tebow, but surely they can do the math and understand that as promising as he is, he’s been struggling here at the end of the season.

I was all for playing Orton to start the season, but when he foundered, I supported to the change to Tebow. Why would people get upset about a similar move?

I had been thinking why don't teams

go for onsite kicks a lot more (especially now that kick off is moved to 35 yards) especially against teams like Saints and New England who have a very dismal defense (and when your defense can’t stop them like Detroit’s yday)…even if they botch the onside kick, the ball could be at 50 yard line and 30 yards is nothing to the likes of Brady / Brees

and Wetzel has a similar article asking why don’t teams go on 4th down against Saints..

by Kumar_98 on Jan 8, 2012 12:21 PM MST reply actions

Speaking of which, it was that very moment in the Patriots game that everything change for the Broncos.

Rather than giving Tebow another shot by taking the penalty, the Patriots opt for 4th and inches instead of 3rd and a long 10. We were averaging 11 yards per run up to that point. Fox takes the field goal, we lose momentum. This team has not been the same since that play

by artistnyc on Jan 8, 2012 12:41 PM MST up reply actions

I didn't see the play you're talking about

but if that’s what happened, that’s insane. Unless you’re going for it on 4th down, there’s absolutely no excuse in declining the penalty to take 3 points against that team. You beat them by touchdowns, not field goals.

The Patriots sneak f’n Brady all the time, you’re going to tell me Tebow can’t get you a foot?

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:54 PM MST up reply actions

I said the same thing last night after Detroit scored their first touchdown. Whether it’s from 50 or 80, Brees is going to score on you. The only way you can beat him is by not giving him the ball.

by Neal Coolong on Jan 8, 2012 12:24 PM MST up reply actions

Just saw Fox on a half time report interview " we have to do blah blah blah or we're in BIG TROUBLE"

You say "defeatist"

I say “realist”.

I’m a huge Broncos fan. I grew up here and will never give up on them. But it isn’t being defeatist just to recognize that getting into the playoffs at all after the McD disaster and new coach and midseason QB change is a pretty amazing accomplishment.

Kudos to Fox and Tebow and Bailey and Dawkins — gonna miss you today, brother! — for getting Denver this far.

Come now

Being the coach of a team doesn’t mean you have to put your head in the sand and ignore reality. There ARE all kind of things the Broncos have to do in this game to keep out of big trouble. Fox knows it, his players know it, and reasonable fans know it. If Fox was all sun shine and lollypops he would be full of it. He would know it, reasonable fans would know it, and most importantly the players would know it.

I don’t want a pie in the sky idealist living in fantasy land for a head coach. I want a hard nosed realist, and so do the players.
