Tebow passes for over 300 yards, wins the game on the first play from scrimmage in overtime with an 80 yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas. Beating the Pittsburg Steelers and the #1 ranked defense in dramatic fashion. All in a days work with the 2012 Broncos...
What a perfect way to end the game. The future of the Broncos, the first two picks of the 2010 draft hooking up to win the Broncos first playoff game in six years. D.T. ended the game with over 200 yards recieving, by far the biggest game of his career averaging 50 yards to go along with his career best 80 yd TD catch. Tebow ended the game with 50 yards and a TD on 10 carries rushing, and even better 316 yards passing with 2 TDs and 0 Ints giving him a passer rating somewhere in the 120s. Tebow became the first QB to throw for more than 300 yards on the Steelers all year. Even more symbolic than this though was the number 316 for Tebow he passed for 316 yards he averaged 31.6 yards per pass, this was the number he so frequently put on his eye black in college, these are the 3 numbers that define everything that is Christianity and everything that Tebow devotes his life too. So for the mumbers 316 to be so obvious in a game where he achieved so much more than anybody thought was possible is more than just coinsidence to me. It seems like God, Jesus way of shining down on him and showing the miracles of those who have faith. If you look throughout history numbers have been tied to spiritual relevancy from the beggining of time, so to say it is in Gods nature to make his prescence known through some statistics isnt that far off in my mind. Just another display of a small miracle in everyday life, and something that inspires faith in others.
Whatever it is, it worked for the Broncos toninght, in a playoff game that almost nobody gave them a chance of winning. In one game he paid for all his his "sins" or mistakes he had commited as Q.B. especially in his previous 3 games, in which people began to waiver in their confidence in Tebow. The Q.B. that had been either crucified or paraded in the media and for the most part always scrutinized by the experts, and NFL analysts. From the beggining of the year up to present day Tebow had been the center of attention and picked apart by everybody.
Never before has a Q.B. been more hated or loved by so many, and been under so much pressure to perform in only his first full NFL season. With talks of him being replaced by Brady Quinn, and even his V.P. telling him he had to "pull the trigger" the pressure was never higher for Tebow. But having watched Tebow from his freshman year at Florida all the till now, I knew that Tebow performed his best when his back was against the wall and the stakes were the highest. And just as he had done before throughout his football career, Tebow delivered and did so in spectacular fashion. Because Tebow is rarely warm, he is either hot or cold, bad or great, and loved or hated.
I dont think there is any questions going forward as to who is the future of the Broncos at the QB position. After starting the season 1-4 with Orton, Tebow led the Broncos to the top of the AFC West locking up a home playoff berth, then leading the team to its first playoff win in 6 years over the NFLs #1 defense, and doing it with his arm not just his legs. He made the passes that the analysts said he couldnt and proved once and for all, if he hadnt already done so that he was worthy of being the center piece of the Broncos offense going forward and that the Broncos needed to draft around him this year and build off the foundation that was laid this year. Demariyus Thomas in one game showed why he was so highly coveted by the Broncos in the 2010 draft, and showed his speed and strength could create mismatches amongst the NFLs best defenders and from here on out there should be no reason that any team should take him lightly in preparing a defense for the Broncos. D.T. just showed he has the potential to have a Hall of Fame kind of career and the Tebow, Thomas connection has just been laid in concrete.
The Broncos have a huge task ahead of them in facing the #1 seeded Patriots in Foxboro, especially after being only 5 weeks out from being beatin thorougly by Tom Brady and co. This is a Broncos team reeling with confidence though. If they can beat the Steelers, albeit not at full strenth I think they have a chance to beat the Patriots. With the defense coming off one of its best overall games in terms of facing elite an elite QB and elite recievers they should have great momentum going into next week. The Patriots on the other hand have just been sitting on the couch and this may play to the Broncos advantage. Hey you never know, nobody thought the Bronocs could beat the Steelers and they did, so why not the Patriots? Go Broncos!
