We're 4-3 and looking pretty good, it's a great time to be a Denver Bronco fan! At this point in the season we're starting to see a few holes in our roster; most notably in our linebacker core. The problem is we're playing way too good to have a shot at Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame unless we want to move up a ton of spots which is possible but unlikely. The next guy on the board I'd love to have would be C.J. Mosley, OLB, Alabama but he's not going to be available either. That's where things get interesting, onto the mock:
Round 1 Pick #26: Our Denver Broncos select David Amerson, CB, North Carolina State
Amerson's stock has slipped recently but he's still the third or fourth best cornerback in college football with ideal size and outstanding ball skills. At 6'2" 194lbs with 4.46 sec speed he'd be Champ's eventual replacement and would match up perfectly against today's bigger receivers.
Round 2 Pick #56: Our Denver Broncos select Nico Johnson, ILB, Alabama
Who doesn't love Alabama linebackers? Nico Johnson gets lost in a very good Alabama defense but he'd be a significant upgrade over Keith Brooking and Joe Mays. At 6'3" 245lbs with 4.66 sec speed he can stuff the run and cover big tight ends. Our linebackers are without a doubt the biggest weakness on defense, it's time we fix that.
Round 3 Pick #88: Our Denver Broncos select Marcus Davis, WR, Virginia Tech
If I were running the team I'd target a run stuffing defensive tackle here but for some reason we don't value defensive tackles like everybody else does so I'll switch gears from the defense to the offense. At 6'4" 232lbs with 4.45 sec speed Marcus Davis would be a nice compliment to Demaryius Thomas and would allow Eric Decker to move inside to the slot receiver spot where he could take over for Stokes.
There you have it; a big starting cornerback with great speed, a big inside linebacker who can cover, and a shiny new target for Peyton Manning who reminds me of Brandon Marshall. Tell me what you think fellas, GO BRONCOS!!!
