Peyton Manning Named AFC Offensive Player of the Month For October

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

Peyton Manning continues to amaze in his return from missing the entire 2011 season

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, the National Football League announced on Thursday.

Manning led Denver to a 2-1 record while completing 77-of-104 passes (74.0%) for 951 yards with nine touchdowns and just one interception (126.7 rtg.) in October. He led or tied for the AFC lead in yards, completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns, 25+yard passes and passer rating.

The first-year Bronco became just the second player in team history (Jake Plummer, 2003) to post a quarterback rating of at least 115.0 in three consecutive games and-dating back to September-completed a stretch of five consecutive games with 300 yards passing to set a club record and match his personal-best streak accomplished in 2009.

The AFC Offensive Player of the Month honor represents the fifth such distinction of Manning's career passing former Broncos running back Terrell Davis for the second-most in NFL history since the award's inception in 1986 (Patriots QB Tom Brady owns six such awards).

Manning represents the seventh Broncos player to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Month honors (11th award overall) and the first since quarterback Jay Cutler was recognized in September of 2008.
