(Not so) Secret Superstar

I'm in complete awe of Wesley Woodyard. There were a lot of fans that wanted to give this guy a go at a starting spot on our defense. But, he only saw spot duty whenever DJ or somebody else needed a breather. Instead, he patiently, kept making plays on speciel teams, as a captain. This year he got his shot to play full time linebacker. And not only did he claim the job, he ran away with it. In my opinion, he is a star. He is a bonafide Pro Bowler, with the skill set of a very few in this league. He has speed, he has strength, he is fundamentally sound, he has tenacity, and great leadership abilities. He can cover, pursue with the best of 'em, shoot gaps like a missile, good blitzer, intelligent, and he makes the players around him better by being a vocal leader, but also, the players feed off of his excitment and obvious love for gameday. We have stumbled across a fututre superstar. I believe this. I watched him closely against the Chargers, and he was the best player on the field. Sure, Von had an increadible game, as usual, but Woodyard was everywhere...everywhere! He was covering, sacking, forcing fumbles, and cracking ball carriers. If you have a player like that, the choice to send the house after the QB is an easy one. Becuase of Woodyard we have so much flexibility with our defense, and it makes us near impossible to handle. To win a Super Bowl you have to have certain things happen 1. Your established stars must play well. 2. You have to have depth. 3. You have to have a little luck. 4. You have to get hot at the right time. 5. You have to see emergence of some "home grown" talent. That's excactly what Woodyard has done. The best teams in the league can draft and develop their own talent, and right now we might be atop of the class in that regard. Woodyard is the perfect example of a player that needed some time to develop, and now that he has, look out. I think this whole defense is fantastic right now, Woodyard is only one piece of the puzzle, but he has proven to be a crucial piece. Don't let mass medias lack of attention fool you, we have two of the best linebackers in the league playing for the Broncos. But you all already knew that. 20121029__20121030_b1_sp30fbnbronx_p1_medium
