The Denver Broncos on Monday signed running back Jacob Hester to their active roster and added running back Jeremiah Johnson to the club's practice squad, it was announced.
Hester (5-foot-11, 235 pounds) is a fifth-year player who has seen action in 62 games (23 starts) with San Diego (2008-11) since being selected by the Chargers in the third round (69th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
He totaled 94 career rushes for 319 yards (3.4 avg.) with one touchdown in addition to 55 receptions for 308 yards (5.6 avg.) and three scores in the regular season. He also played in three postseason games (1 start) for the Chargers during the 2008 and ‘09 campaigns.
Hester totaled 1,780 rushing yards on 364 carries (4.9 avg.) during his career at LSU, where he started on the Tigers' National Championship team as a senior in 2007 and earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors.
A graduate of Evangel Christian High School in Shreveport, La., Hester was born on May 8, 1985.
Johnson (5-foot-9, 200 pounds) is a third-year player who spent the first 11 weeks of the season on the club's practice squad a year after seeing action in eight games (0 starts) and totaling 77 yards on 14 carries (5.5 avg.) and 62 yards on seven receptions (8.9 avg.) for the Broncos.
