A Sixth Win in a Row

December 11, 2011 - In 2011, Denver had an improbable and surprising six-game winning streak after a 2-5 start. The sixth and final game of that run came on Sunday, December 11. The 7-5-0 Broncos were hosting the 7-5-0 Chicago Bears. The game was scoreless at the half. The score remained tied at 0-0 until the 5:26 mark in the third quarter when Chicago got on the board with a touchdown. The third quarter ended with the Bears in the lead. Chicago added a field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 10-0 lead. Denver got back into the game at the 2:15 mark when QB Tim Tebow hit WR Demaryius Thomas for a 10-yard touchdown. After the defense forced a three-and-out, the offense marched 40 yards where Matt Prater kicked a tying field goal with 8 seconds left.

In the overtime period, the Bears won the toss. They had marched from their own 20-yard line to the Denver 38. On 3-7-DEN38, Chicago RB Marion Barber ran for 5 yards but was stripped of the ball by LB Wesley Woodyard. DE Elvis Dumervil recovered the fumble for Denver. Denver marched from the Broncos' 34-yard line to the Chicago 33 yard line. At that point, with 8:40 left in the overtime period, Prater kicked a 51-yard field goal for the win.
