Broncos OC Mike McCoy Reportedly To Interview With Bears, Cardinals This Week

After finding success with Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning, Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy is a hot name for teams needing a head coach.

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy nearly became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins last season after navigating Tim Tebow and the Broncos to an 8-8 record and a playoff win. After proving he can work with Peyton Manning and help lead the Broncos to a 13-3 record and the #1 seed in the AFC, McCoy will get plenty of looks this offseason as well.

According to various sources throughout the NFL, two teams have already asked the Broncos for permission to interview for their vacant head coaching positions. The Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears have asked for permission. The Cardinals parted ways with Ken Whisenhunt while the Bears fired Lovie Smith.

NFL rules allow teams to interview assistants that are on their BYE week. That could mean it will be a busy week for McCoy and possibly Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.

The question now becomes whether or not McCoy is a fit with either team. McCoy was brought to Denver by former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, so there could be questions about McCoy's desire to work with Bears quarterback Jay Cutler or receiver Brandon Marshall.

As for the Cardinals, their quarterback situation is a mess, though McCoy proved he could adjust his scheme to fit the personnel he has.

Either way, McCoy has earned the opportunity.
