Would be mentor for our young wideouts
This guy is one of the nastiest blocking WRs in the game. I think he could bring an attitude to our recieving corps.

Yes he might be
But how much does he have left in the tank and how much is he going to want ? Hines Ward has the reputation as the best blocking wide receiver in football . If he has anything left and would sign a fair incentive based contract I would be all for it . I’d just hope he would have more left than Jerry Rice had when he came to the Broncos .
Agreed
Rice was quite a bit older when he joined the Broncos (he was 42). I am pretty sure Ward has a couple more seasons left in him. This move is purely economics on the part of the Steelers. The talent and youth they have makes it hard to keep a solid veteran around. He could be the offense’s version of Dawkins.

I've heard Ward is retiring. Has he said differently?

Hadn't heard that
The article stated he preferred to stay in Pittsburgh, but is willing to play elsewhere:
The report said Ward was open to playing elsewhere next season if he could not workout a new deal, but the 35-year-old said he was committed to staying with the black and gold.

I'm not saying bring him in to be the focus of the offense
You bring Ward in for his leadership and as a mentor to the young talent we already have. His skill set is a great fit for our system. The Steelers are loaded with young talent at receiver, they’re going to have to cut him loose more than likely. Pick up Ward and draft a young speedster that can stretch the field and we are set!

I'm sure he'll want to go to a contender. Not saying the broncos can't contend next year lol but
I would be happy having the broncos make it to the playoffs again. However I don’t think Ward would be happy with that.

Bro
we made the playoffs, YEAR ONE, under a new regime with no offseason. How exactly are we NOT contenders? We beat the reigning AFC Champs at their own game in the playoffs. We’re only going to get better. Luke Richesson is going to help eliminate the injuries of old that have plagued us year in, year out. The new contract guy is as well respected as they come. Players are wanting to come here (minus a few wide receivers).

YES... YES.... YES.... and more YESSSSS!!!!!
Hines Ward would be the ULTIMATE free agent catch for us!!! He can block like no other… he’s the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen at his size (dude can lay blocks like a TE twice his size)… and he would be an excellent mentor for our own young blocking wideouts! This is a no brainer!!!
The only problem is…. we’re going to be one of many teams after Hines services. One other thing I’ve always loved about Hines Ward, is his ability to pop up after someone lays a lick on him, smiling all the way back to the huddle. That, my friends, is getting up in the enemies heads.

I've always had a fair amount of respect for Hines
The Steelers kept trying to replace him, only to find out he was a bit better than they thought. He’s been a constant on that team for years. He’s a master of the crack-back. I’d love for him to be able to pass that knowledge to our big young receivers.
