It Might Be Time to go Poaching
There are some teams that are short on salary cap room that have some restricted free agents the Broncos could have some interest in . These players could also come at a very good value . While they are not starters on their teams they would be solid depth and could possibly become starters .
MLB Larry Grant San Francisco 49's 6'1'' 251 lbs.
Grant was a backup to Patrick Willis and started three games this year while Willis was out injured .He played quite well . Grant I think would come cheaper and do a better job than JoeMays and would push Nate Irving .
D Tackle Sammy Lee Hill Detroit Lions 6'4'' 329 lbs.
Sammy Lee Hill is a backup for N. Sue so he will not get to start in front of him .Hill started when Sue was suspended this year and did a nice job .I think Hill would be a great addition to the D Line .
C Back Lardarius Webb Baltimore Ravens 5'10'' 180 lbs.
Webb is on the small side but his value would be as a kick returner .
C Back Gregory Toler Arizona Cardinals 6' 0'' 192lbs.
A corner that has good size and could be more than just a backup .
O Guard Brandyn Dombrowski San Diago Chargers 6'5'' 323 lbs.
Dombrowski would be a solid backup at guard and has also played at tackle . Depth is a need on the Broncos O Line .
T E Anthony Hill Baltimore Colts 6'6'' 278 lbs.
Anthony Hill was a fourth round pick of the Houston Texans who came down with the swine flue and was released . He was signed this year by the Colts because of all of their injury's at the position . Hill has good size and also a very good blocker .
If you offer a contract to restricted free agents their team has the right to match it and retain the player . San Francisco is the only team here that has fair cap room . However I don't think they will want to pay a fair contract for Patrick Willis's backup .
These are some of my thoughts on the Free agent market and right now It's to early to see what the unrestricted market will look like till the start of the new NFL year .
Well Broncos Country what do you think are there any players on this list that you might think are worth taking a shot at ? I look forward to your thoughts and comments .

Just a head’s up, but I scheduled a post earlier today (coming soon) regarding Poaching. That is the only part that overlaps our two posts though. Still, great minds think along the same lines.

This doesn't happen that often because
If the Broncos were to sign one of these guys, they would have to give up a Draft pick in this year’s draft. If they get the player they want, it might be worth it though.
Good stuff ultra.

Nice post ultra
but to tell the truth, none of them sound all that appealing. Guys this good will be available later in FA for nothing. If you had a RB on there that could be 1a I might bite.

Arian Foster is also a restricted free agent for the Texans . I did not put him on the list though because Houston is not going to let him get out of town .

and just released...
with no compensation-wr hines ward. veteran, hands, blocker, tough, leader. just what we need to add, always loved his play. go get him
taste my blintzkrieg!
the 3-man rush is an admission of lunacy, cowardice, and defeat.
I'd like that.
I highly doubt we’re where he wants to go though. I could be wrong. He just doesn’t seem like a Denver guy. I bet he signs cheap somewhere near Pitt. like Phil. or Wash. Maybe Clev. That would be funny.

Some good players there but I don't like the idea of giving up draft picks. Pass.
Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.
I was hoping we would drft Sammie Lee Hill as he dropped to the 4th rd...
I hope we land the Canadian, 6’4 324lbs Akiem Hicks, who had a solid outing during the East/West Shrine game. Big physical guy who needs development with technique…
Greg Toler has an ACL tear and is rehabing. Actually he is 5’11 according to NFLScouts.com he should recover by summer. Wouldn’t offer him much but he might be available now as Patrick Peterson has a year of development under his belt.
I thin LB Larry Grant is satified playing behind Patrick Willis and his home is in the Bay Area…

No reason for Sammy Lee Hill
He is too big for 4-3, especially in the thin Denver air. Poor fit.
Detroit Lions run a 4/3 just fine with him...
Bigness is irrelevent to a man’s physicality and strengths. Wilfork is probably the widest guy to play in the 4/3 and he does just fine. It’s just a matter of semantics and scheme…

None of those guys play half their games at a Mile High either, bfree
Remember Gilbert Brown in SBXXXII? Everytime I see a DT over 320, I think of how painful it must of been for Packers fans to watch him get man handled by our tiny Oline, then I smile a bit!
There is a reason our biggest DT is only 316. I think it goes beyond semantics. It would be tough for any of those guys to hold up for four quarters all season long playing in Denver.

Good stuff ultra.
I love hearing about some slightly under the radar kinds of guys. Patrick Willis’ backup is particularly intriguing to me. But again, worth a draft pick? Who knows. But it does make me a little fearful of another Niko Koudivides kind of situation…

We need a true starting MLB
If we’re going to poach one let’s make sure he’s a starter. Having flash backs of Niko kutovides (sp).

I like the ideas you have......
and you know every FO is checking out the FA lists. So, it will be interesting to see what our FO will be looking at in the FA market. The arguement of any given FA taking a draft pick would always be a concern however, an NFL experienced player coming from a common system or philosophy can really outweigh any clueless rookie that turns out being a bust…the draft is always the unknown that makes it affordable to consider any FA…!!
Thanks for the post. BTW—my HD is also an ultra classic (07)! :D
Lardarius Webb cornerback Baltimore Ravens
It seems I have under rated Webb . I was going thru the free agent rankings today over at walterfootball and they have Webb as the top corner with four and a half stars and just ahead of Brandon Carr . He had sixty some odd tackles ,seven interceptions this year and did not give up a touchdown . All in all I think he would be worth poaching at his ripe old age of twenty five . Giving up a draft pick for a young top rated corner I think makes sense .
