From new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio's perspective of the defense...
“There will be no major overhaul to the defense,” he said. “There will be some change, but it won’t be wholesale change.”

I’ve thought this out hard and long over the course of the season and now the offseason that the Broncos defense just needs a few tweaks here and there. I could see a player or 2 coming in in free agency, but I don’t think EFX will go all hog wild like some have suggested. When I look at the RFAs and UFAs we have (22), the first thing that comes to mind is the player’s familiarity of the team and role they play on the team. Next is age, and all of them are still in their playing years and some haven’t even reached their ceiling of progressions yet. One that comes to mind is DT Ryan McBean, the player many have screamed for his head on a platter. McBean is a RFA, which tells me he is still young and learning, plaus it hasn’t helped him any having multible DCs during his years as a player. Then, I look at his role at his position and try to see if there is any noticable progression in his play. He has shown that over the last couple of years, and seemed to keep the penalty bug at bay for most of the year, while making 4 sacks and getting some hurries on the quarterback. This last year was a vast improvement over 2010. So, JDR has all these factors and film to study to see which players they want to retain and which ones they might let go. I think we will re-sign a majority of them we have onboard moving forward.
