What's NOT to Love About This Kid?!!!
This is Charlie Campbell's 4 round mock draft over at WalterFootball.com. He has us taking Michael Brockers (DT, LSU) with the 25th pick, but if you go down a few picks to the Raven's slot, you'll see who I'm talking about here. That's right... Vontaze Burfict... the infamous MLB from Arizona St. who's been discussed constantly on this site. I like this quote from Charlie the best:
"NFL sources who know Burfict well from coaching him have told us that he is not a bad kid, just ultracompetitive, and as a result can be overly aggressive during games. Burfict should be told to go all out, and the team that drafts him should just accept having some penalties in exchange for an intimidating playmaker in the middle of its defense."

Intimidating.... violent.... athletic
these are words that should be synonymous with Defensive football. So what the dude will rack up penalties (what player doesn’t?), he is an enforcer and that’s something this defense has been missing severely (at least a home grown one) since Al Wilson. Sure… B Dawk still has the role on lock when his neck is up to it, but how much longer can we realistically expect his neck to take more punishment?
I think Burfict would give us excellent production…. year 1. He just needs coached to subdue his enthusiasm a bit. I can’t ever fault a player for being uber competitive. Especially not one that a physical bad-arse like Burfict.

I think our #1 pick should be used in the middle of the D.
DT that can get to the QB…aka…Brockers, Still, or Fox. Or a MLB that can run the D…aka…Burfict, Kuechly, or Zach Brown. Those are the 6 guys at the top of my board. Know unless someone like Richardson, Floyd, Couples, Kirkpatrick or Ingram fall to us, I would be looking at those 6 players for #25.
I didn't know Zach Brown could play MIKE?
Come to think of it, he does have comparable size to Jon Beason (Beason is only around 235 or so). With his speed, he sounds like a player Fox would covet…. just don’t know if he has the stones to play inside.

Hell to the NO
Kid had to be fed plays from one of the other lbs for his entire career at AZ. He is simply not intelligent enough to be a MLB in the NFL.

I echo what he said
I have heard this mentioned before. Also, since I started hearing his name last offseason, I watched as many games of his this year as I could. What a disappointment he was. Those penalties always seemed to come at the wrong time too (not that there is ever a good time, just some times are worse than others). If I had the money to potentially lose on a bet, I would bet that he sucks really bad as a pro and has a very short career. No thanks.

I liked watching Burfict at ASU, but when you go pro because you wouldn’t be academically eligible to play next season and had to be fed plays by other teammates is a receipt for failure. We need a field general at MLB who know wtf he’s doing out there. There is not enough time between plays to be instructed what to do if Tom Brady comes out no huddle against you. I would only take him in the third round at the earliest because he’s a boom or bust project at the next level.
Saying that, he’s got the physical attributes to be a perennial probowler and I would only draft him for that reason.
In Tebow I trust
I used to be luke warm about the guy
But after reading about his academic issues and the fact that his outside linebacker Brandon McGee had to tell Brufict what plays were being run all year, I wouldn’t draft the guy. And when McGee went down with an injury Burfict struggled without him next to him, which explains his sub par 2011 season. The dude is an athletic freak and his highlight reels are sick but I wouldn’t take him until the 3rd round. I’m guessing he goes somewhere in the second. GMs and scouts will quickly pick apart his game and probably pick up on his lack of football IQ in 1 on 1 meetings.
Wooooot! one of my teams made the postseason and won! PLAYOFFS!!!1
Denver Broncos: 2011 AFC WEST Champs!
Come on Toronto teams, one of you make the goddamn playoffs.
I'll pass. I'd rather have Brockers.
Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.
So would 31 other teams...He'll be gone by 15.
Win, lose or draw, we are the Denver Broncos! 13-3 Baby!!! Until we ain't!
I think EFX will definitey draft a DE with the first pick.
From Quinton Coples, to Melvin Ingram, to Whitney Mercilus, to Andre Branch. I believe they still hold hope in Nate Irving, but I don’t doubt that Vontaze Burfict could have a spectacular career much like Ray Lewis. I say this again…we have 2 DEs in Doom and Ayers with the other 2 Hunter and Harvey as bench warmers. Ayers IS not a pass rushing DE no matter what anybody says and his position needs to be upgrade so we can use him as a #3 DE and let either Harvey or Hunter go. Plain as that. We have 3 ILBers in Joe Mays, Nate Irving and Mike Mohamed. Mohamed is the odd one as he is a utility player across the 2nd tier of the defense. He came out yesterday and stated he knows what he has to do to get on the field and that’s a start. We’ll see about that.
Win, lose or draw, we are the Denver Broncos! 13-3 Baby!!! Until we ain't!
