Thanks Kap’n! Full time officials… That seems like it could be a blessing and a curse… I wonder if it should be like the Pro-Bowl… 1/3 of the votes from fans, 1/3 from coaches (team staff) and 1/3 from players, on who should stay or go each year? Or perhaps an internal thing, officials vote on each other…. Maybe officials voting on each other, and players also voting (so a half and half deal)? Seems like some combination of this at least being part of the decision would be pertinent.

They already have an evaluation system for refs
If they get dinged for too many bad calls, they don’t get to officiate playoffs for example.I am not too sure on all the details, I just know there is someone they have to answer to.

$49 million, according to Peter King...
… is what the Broncos currently have to spend. Obviously, that’s going to fluctuate as guys come and go, are resigned or released.
I assume Mario Williams would, despite the complete and utter awesomeness of a Dumervil / Miller / Williams defense, blow up our cap room. What defensive help is actually out there that would be a solid pay : performance investment?
Mario would make our pass rush unstoppable. He might also make our payroll unpayable.

yeah, we don’t want a guy who is 1 year away from being a top 5 qb in the nfl

I'd take Mario over Peyton ANYDAY of the week.
He has more of a career left and would put our D SOOO over the top.
Tebow can handle being our QB. EFX just need to coach him up.

Can you find the 'W' in this mess? Tebow can.
I don't think you can discount...
1) The cost : need ratio. Is quarterback a bigger need for the Broncos than defensive end? Safety? Cornerback? Wide receiver? Tight end? Can we fill all of those needs with the money it would take to sign Manning at quarterback?
2) The cost : injury ratio. Exactly what happened in that year? Multiple neck / nerve surgeries on an aging quarterback. What’s it going to cost to sign a quarterback that may or may not be able to throw a ball competitively ever again?
3) The cost : development ratio. Tebow has flaws as a quarterback; many of them in fact. However, he showed that he can at a minimum work around those flaws and win games. He may, with a proper off-season and proper offense, completely obliterate those flaws (nobody has ever questioned Tebow’s work ethic). Why pay money to delay that development and have the team institute a system wholly unsuited for which it has been training and built?
by Tezcatlipoca on Feb 20, 2012 1:51 PM MST up reply actions
Lots of valid questions to ask, but in my mind peyton manning has been one of the best all time. Missed a year due to injury, and before that was one of the top QB’s in the game. If he wants to come here I am not sure i can turn him down.
Tebow won games yes, but against who? Matt Moore, Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Mark Sanchez, Phillip Rivers, Christian Ponder, Caleb Hanie, and 1 Legged Ben Roethlisberger.
Tebow Lost to Stafford, Brady, Orton, and Fitzpatrick

Sign B. Carr!
Now the Broncos need to sign B. Carr to replace Goodman. Draft a young CB and let Champ mentor him for a couple of years.

Carr works well in a zone scheme. Do we want a zone scheme corner?

We Need Good CBs
I want talented players, and concern myself about the scheme later :) At this point B. Carr is a badly needed upgrade over Goodman.

I completely agree. I would put Corner as our #1 offseason priority. Right there with DT, SS, FS

in every way, additionally being much younger than Goodman is also a plus

Champ, Carr, Harris, syd, Vaughn and a third day pick makes a great group.
I would be totally satisfied if we re sign our guys and only sign Carr, a backup qb and some solid o-line help.
