"I regret the comments as they appeared in the article and I apologize if the comments that were in the article upset anyone," Quinn said today. "I think they were taken in the wrong tone. Had I known at the time the direction the article was going to go I would not have participated in the interview at all. The interview took place three months ago. However, there's no one to blame but myself. I take full responsibility.

"I've reached out to Tim and he knows what I think of him as a player and a person. I hope my teammates know that I don't think this season was based upon luck. I think it was more based upon the fight each of our teammates had to continually battle and win games in the end. And Tim was very much instrumental in our success, especially coming down the stretch in the last minutes of games."

via Denver Post

I think players are catching on to the fact that Mike Silver is only interested in doing assassination pieces on Tim Tebow. Certainly, not the kind of things players want to be involved with.

Silver spoons

In the old days, you could have money and have (sterling) silver, or you didn’t have wealth and your spoon was made of pewter….pewter has a high content of lead, which should not be taken internally, even by a spoon. Thus, one of the explanations of the phrase to be born with a silver spoon in his mouth"; you were much less likely to become chronically ill.
translation; silver is not sterling and is toxic.

Silver is a douche bag

Like, what’s the point of this article? Just to create drama for Tebow. At the end of the day, who really cares what quinn thinks, true or not.

Silver is just out to create something out of nothing. The guy is a joke, on the level of Pete Prisco and Albert Breer(both of whom applauded silver for this) Karma will come back to bite these guys in the ass.

It was for GQ in particular

He doesn’t control when they publish it.

Silver actually does some really good work, but when he doesn’t like a player he’s not going to hide it. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. He writers columns, there’s supposed to be a slant/opinion behind what he writes.

by Branta on Feb 22, 2012 1:15 PM MST up reply actions

I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, I feel really bad for BQ b/c he seems like a classy guy and I’m sure he meant no harm or ill will with his comments. But he still said them. And they still reeked of jealousy and individuality in times when he we needed to be playing as a team. The fact that these quotes are old are even more unsettling as we were still playing at the time – it’s not like he was just reminiscing.

I agree w/ DT. Hard work and determination >>>>>>> luck.

The biggest douchebag in this by far is Silver, though. He has some weird obsession with Tebow and would print comments by a dog if they could be interpreted negatively.

by iBleedorangeandblue on Feb 21, 2012 7:27 PM MST reply actions

I can see why Quinn would be jealous

I mean, sure he might like tebow as a person and be his friend, but jealousy still will happen. I’m sure Quinn believed he could do better if started. These quotes were done in early november, Tebow had a bad game in Miami and the ugly game in detroit, so…i can understand these quotes. Plus we don’t know the context of these quotes.

Silver is a douche though

by Scotty Payne on Feb 21, 2012 7:35 PM MST up reply actions

That's all true.

But according to Vic Lombardi BQ is distraught over these comments and how they’ve been taken. I mean, he said them…it’s completely within his right to be jealous and think these things and even say these things but people also have a right to call him on it. I kinda felt bad for him today because he got raked across the coals from pretty much everyone but he’s a grown man. He never shied away from a camera while he was at ND, he should know how the media works by now.

You open your mouth to the media (Silver) and you get what's coming to you.

Besides, it’s hard to ‘spin’ what Quinn said. He said what he meant, and meant what he said until he realized that shizzz was about to hit the fan.

Now he can’t back peddle fast enough.

Peace out Quinn and here’s to hoping that Silver gets the ‘boot’ soon too!

when Quinn made those comments Tebow had exactly one miracle under his belt and just finished a 2 completion freak show against KC.

Perhaps he was upset and said it in anger, or wasn’t thinking or whatever, but that’s just straight classless and doesn’t belong in a Denver Broncos uniform. Period.

Silver is a contemptible piece of work, but BQ...

This is the classical non-apology that became a norm in US:

I apologize IF the comments … upset anyone

This is not an apology. This is a way to sounds like an apology, while at the same time showing a finger. It is saying that my comments were nothing to apologize for, but maybe there is someone out there who is offended – well, maybe than I’d say something; but it still is not all my fault, it’s on you oversensitive someone. That’s how I read that. Again, it is unfortunate that this is the new norm, because it is nothing like straightforward taking responsibility for your actions.

What would you feel if you were wronged by someone and than received this kind of apology (“IF you are offended”)?

by si_ice on Feb 21, 2012 7:50 PM MST reply actions   1 recs

Because, some Broncos fans out there do not like Tebow either. lol

So IF is an accurate statement…he only offended most Broncos fans, not all. He is only apologizing to those of us pissed off.

by Tim Lynch on Feb 21, 2012 9:19 PM MST up reply actions

Perhaps he didn't offend 'everyone,' but that doesn't make it an appropriate response.

An appropriate response would be to say, “I apologize for my comments.” No if needed. Even if there is a small percentage of people NOT offended, they’re still classless and needless comments. He doesn’t just owe fans an apology, but Tebow, Fox, Elway, Bowlen, and the Broncos organization too.

“If” certainly is an obstinate stance to take meaning, “I meant what I said, and if someone out there was offended, well, I suppose I am sorry you are offended, but I’m not sorry for what I said.”

Dude doesn’t get any slack from me because he’s response was piss poor in my opinion. :)

I think us Tebow fans should lay off players, coaches, and executives who may have critiqued Tebow.

We can’t be a pack of rabid dogs every time someone makes a comment. Especially when his comments are used completely out of context and a lifetime after the fact. The pack of rabid dogs should be 100% tearing Silver a new a-hole. BQ was as much thrown under the bus as Tebow was….we SHOULD be circling our wagons around both of them. sigh…

Yahoo Sports has been a laughing stock for a long time.

Lakers and Patriots forever.

by D.S.T. on Feb 22, 2012 7:11 AM MST up reply actions

Just because you were quoted doesn't mean you weren't led
Early in the season, there was a game when Kyle [Orton] got hurt and the coaches were calling for me to go in, but Kyle got up and finished the game out. So I was the second-string guy. Then, a few weeks later, they decided to put Tim in. I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that. Just ’cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him

Nothing controversial about that and easy to see it coming from a question about what happened with the rumors that he was the No. 2 guy.

No, I didn’t have any billboards. That would have been nice.

Nothing controversial about that if he just asked if there were any fans who really had his back. I think we all would love to have people support us the way we support Tim.

The entire game, the defensive line is chasing the quarterback around, and that wears down the pass rush. Meanwhile, the defensive backs are chasing receivers, but you only throw eight passes, so they start to feel lazy. It only takes that one play, that one big pass, for a touchdown.

Not so controversial if the question is something like: So why do you think Tebow was able to make big plays at the end o f the game and come back after struggling early on?

“We’ve had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply.”

Who wouldn’t say we had a lot of luck last year. With just this quote, you can’t tell whether he was actually saying our success was only luck or just pointing out the weird season we had with games like the one we had against the Bears.

If you look at it as a whole, there’s a lot of things that just don’t seem very humble to me. When I get that opportunity, I’ll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?

This is the one that bothers me the most… but even this could be led by a scumbag questions such as: “Tim seems to put his faith on the forefront, do you think he’s being as humble as he could be?” “How would you differ from Tim on that aspect if you were the face of the team?”

Of course, we’ll never know how the Q&A went down. But If you take the quotes on their own with questions like the ones I proposed, I don’t think it’s too hard to picture yourself saying some of the same things no matter how much you LOVE Tebow. Always remember, just because someone is quoted does NOT always mean that it’s a fair reflection of how they feel. Writers can always take things out of context and twist them how they want in a story. And I fully believe that this kind of act is commonplace with Silver.

Much ado about nothing.......

And BQ has a rep as a good guy. The praying comment? A lot of people (even Warner) have opinions that differ from TT as to when, where, etc; and I haven’t seen XXI on a Stone Tablet saying which is right, or correct to do. If TT and BQ believe differently (about how public to pray) that is OK; and to call that an attack is silly.

As is the rest of the “attack”. Sure, we were lucky a few times; some seasons that works for you, some seasons it works against you (see Nuggets, injuries, 2012). Part of the game- and I still can’t believe Barber ran out of bounds, either. MHR has talked about our running wearing out the defense so we can beat them in the last quarter- again, that isn’t an attack.

I know everyone is bored and all…… but yeesh, calling BQ classless? This is way down the list of bad teamate behavior, and he is public that he apologized to TT and the Bronco’s. Should be end of story………..

Having grown-up as a Catholic around Southern Baptists — evangelicals are very much about public displays of their faith. When I was younger I thought it was ridiculous and showy. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that people are in fact allowed to be different from me and who really who cares how a person displays their faith or lack of faith in a higher power (as long it’s legal and doesn’t harm others). You cross a line when question what’s in a person’s heart.

The great thing about Tebow is he’d never tell Quinn how to do anything of the sort. Nor through Quinn under the bus by talking to a known hostile reporter.

Why, because Tebow is humble and not a jealous draft bust. Tebow also shows more tact and common sense.

Why anyone would defend Brady Quinn on this is mind boggling. Quinn put himself on this island. Now it’s his job to find his way off.

LOL

Hard to believe you are a young man when you are so close minded. You are very hard on your football players. I hope you don’t expect the same perfection out of people in your life. In any case, McGeorge you have a LOT to learn about people and relationships.
First off: Unless you know Tebow personally you have no idea what he would say to another person on how to practice their faith. As far as Quinn throwing Tebow under the bus. Well, you are over reacting. Saying Tebow should be more humble is an opinion on how he practices his faith. I could not care less about that. Tebow was picked over Quinn in part due to a billboard, truth. The team got lucky. Talent met opportunity, whatever. Again, that does not take away from Tebow. Tebow would say his faith helped him and to me that is the same as luck or Karma. I don’t care what you call it the ball went our way a few times. Again, no throwing under the bus.
The biggest thing here is that it was an article and was spun the way the writer wanted it, not the way the person quoted wanted it. Really, I for one have personal experience with poor newspaper reporting and IDIOTS that take a news article as truth.

Why would I defend Quinn? Well, I’m not. I am trying to figure out how so many people can be so gullible that an article in a freakin GQ magazine can sway their opinion on a player on our team. Why do you think the O line for the Broncos refused to talk to any reporter till the NFL made them. It was a protest against being made to look bad by being misquoted. Duh.
Now McG, stop spreading hate. You need to find some love in your life or get laid or something. I swear!!!

That's the comment I had the biggest problem with as well

As an atheist, I perceive Tebow to be VERY humble, especially for an evangelical lol. But all I was trying to show is that a writer can lead you into saying things you really don’t mean. I suppose I should have went into this one a bit more, but imagine if someone, in the middle of an hour long Q&A session, said “Man, Tebow’s always going to a knee out on the field and has to add ‘God Bless’ to every interview. Looking at his actions as a whole, does that kind of stuff really seem humble to you?” Now let’s look again at Quinn’s response:

If you look at it as a whole, there’s a lot of things that just don’t seem very humble to me.

Now like I said, I perceive Tebow to be very humble, so I doubt I could be led to answer the way Quinn did. But if Quinn meant that as, looking at everything you just brought up, it doesn’t seem very humble, but I know the guy and he is, I could see a lot of people getting in trouble with the same response. We’ll probably never know exactly how Quinn meant the line, but just because Silver used it that way in his story, does not mean that’s the way Quinn was using it in the interview. Slimy writers can make you say anything they want after a simple interview, and they can accurately quote you while doing so. That’s always important to remember before crucifying someone (and something I need to remember as well as I went off on Quinn when the story was first released).

well said Royal

some of our fellow writers are scumbags, playing in the NFL requires thick skin, well unless you’re Jay Cutler, in which case you are a spoiled brat who gets whatever he wants

Sad but true

I’ve found over the years that the best way to tell how talented a writer is, is by listening to those he or she writes about. When you read letters gushing about how accurate they were even when the person in the story was an emotional mess during the time, you know you have a keeper… On the other hand, when they react like Quinn, it’s a good hint that something is smelling a bit like the big old Cutler that got left behind in the bathroom.

Nice try Brady

horrible career decision right there man. Happy tone, sad tone, jealous tone, confident tone, it’s not the tone of what you said that matters one iota. It’s what you said, regardless of how it was said. Calling Tim out about showboating his prayers is preposterous and you know it.

Tim Tebow is a praying individual… cameras present or in the privacy of his own home. That was a low blow Brady, and the driving force behind making that statement couldn’t have came from a good place. We’re all sorry it didn’t work for you Brady… a lot of people thought you were going to be a franchise type of player… but it’s also no one’s fault you’re not. If you haven’t developed by now, you most likely never will, but who knows, you may be Rich Gannon 2.0… only time will tell.

I will tell you this though… karma is a BEEEOTCH!

"If you went to the Fair with this guy and you played that game where you have to throw the ball through the hole..... he may never get it through the hole, but he's still gonna be walking away with all the stuffed animals!" Prime's commentary on our very own Tim Tebow!!!

"As iron sharpens iron, so will one man sharpen another." The Bible, by way of Tim Tebow.

"If I had to choose between an abundance of football intelligence, or football wisdom, I'd choose wisdom every single time...... John Fox has enough football wisdom to be carried in a dump truck." Me!

Not religious, but that was a total low blow

especially from a guy that posts verses from the Bible on twitter everyday. sounds more like he is jealous that he isn’t as respected in the christian community, which he should be used to from his day job.

Tim has made it no secret

he will shout out or take a knee to give thanks anytime…and use the mic to shout out his genuine beliefs…so what? Whats to get bent about? He never ever does this for personal acclaim or ego…some folks just cant stand it that he a good guy….and we root for him cuz we wanna see a good make win and make it…we want him to be that role model and a winner. Well, he already IS a role model – its that American competitive spirit in us that wants a winner too…especially when one is cast as an underdog..we want to holler and root and see Seabiscuit win the race…so. the classy thing to do is show respectful admiration…BQ can still claim he can be a winner if given the full chance…just like Tebow did and will…who could say different? Oh we can project. but who really knows until the bells rings and the race is on..Seems like we seen this movie and will see it again!

Makes you wonder why Elway is always talking to Silver. John isn’t the most decerning or intelligent with his media buddies.

If Tim doesnt have a good season in 2012, me thinks Elway ships him out of town ASAP.

silver is bad news yet several Broncos keep yapping to him. Our locker room and front office still have issues and several moments of armature hour akin to the McJedi era.

Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).

What bugs me the most about silver it that

He writes this article and then goes on the radio and tries to defend Quinn and says that he did not come off as a bitter backup in the full interview. Silver then says he will release the full interview later in in the week. In the mean time he will keep Quinn under the bus for web hits and airtime. Silver and Prisco are scum. I wish the Broncos would put a gag order on their players from talking to these frauds!

Quinn has never been a good NFL player and wasn’t coming back anyway. He has one more TC to prove it but I think 2012 will be his final NFL season. Quinn can’t play and he missed his window. At his age, can’t play the potential card any longer.

Personally I havent clicked on a Silver article in about 5 months.

The way to end his “career” is to stop clicking. Simple as that. He shot his credibility with me at the beginning of this last season predicting the Raiders to win the SB. LMAO the guy is a joke and his articles only reflect that :)

As far as BQ….meh what do you expect from a former first round draft pick who has turned out to be a bust. Comparable to listening or taking any opinions from Jamarcus the Hutt. And it seems that Silver would do both LMAO!
